iPad hitting nine more countries this Friday
Apple has just let word out that it'll be bringing its super-selling slate to nine new markets. The Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, New Zealand and Singapore are all getting their hands on the device this Friday, July 23. We were just remarking on how the iPad's sales pace had slowed down recently, but this expansion in markets should move things along toward rounding the next milestone. Local pricing hasn't yet been revealed, but it's not like there's long to wait now. "Many" more countries are promised before the end of the year, so don't despair if your local Apple Store isn't stocking the iPad just yet.

Supporting the top dog is like rooting for the lead character in a romantic comedy...it requires no courage or imagination to do so, but it makes you feel good when they win.
@CRA1G Well, I was dreaming of courier or Adam, but as you can see there are no quality products out from top companies. I am not pro or anti apple but literally, iPad has no real competitor
@nooruls143
I think that's because it fits into a niche no one really thought needed to be filled. Too big to function well as a PMP, yet not functional enough to be a netbook.
I'm always impressed and amazed it's managed to sell so well in spite of these factors.
@nooruls143
I'm getting concerned about the Adam. Those last few blog posts on Notion Ink's site were kind of douchy. We may have some vapor on our hands. Speaking of vapor: Engadget, can you chase down an update on the ICD Gemini?
@CRA1G
Actually the iPad was supposed to fail based on the gurus here!
@CRA1G haha cute. that made me laugh to my self at work haha. you get a plus for that
@nooruls143
Very good for Apple. They're still struggling to meet demand in the countries it is already available in. I have one, and my brother likes it so much that we went to the Apple store yesterday (Trafford Centre) to get but they were sold out and they said the waiting list was so long that it would more than likely be a couple of weeks until he would get one.
@tophat I know a lot of people that purchased one over a net book or laptop. For many that don't need the power of a laptop the ipad is a good alternative. Probably why it has sold so well.
Get a life dude. It's a f*cking tablet, not some sort of sports competition.
Hopefully they'll ship more to US stores before they ship[ to other countries. It's still sold out everywhere here.
@tophat We bought the 64GB 3G version when it became available in Canada. It wasn't expected to replace our laptop. However in the ~2ish months we've had it I think the laptop has been on maybe 3 times, all just because of sites where we didn't have the login info on the iPad yet.
Surprisingly useful device (and the iWorks apps are very well done)
And our 4 year old LOVES Angry Birds ;)
@jaffreywali And fail it has...I've yet to see proof of any ACTUAL magic emanate from an iPad so far.
I had a feeling "magical" would be in the Press Release.
@daftrok this thing is still around?
Hong Kong, Luxembourg and Singapore?!?!? OMG, can't wait until the Vatican, San Marino and Andorra get this too!
@JLPicard And Lichtenstein!
@JLPicard
...and they'll probably sell more ipads in Singapore than any one else will sell in the rest of the world!
@JLPicard. If Coruscant doesn't get it, thew blew it
@Lord Vader
Picard vs. Vader? Interesting indeed...
Vader vs Locutus, most interesting!
@JLPicard You know what almost every colleague in my Shanghai office asked me to bring an iPad for them when I head there on 28 Jul ... big business for Apple
@JLPicard That's 11-12 million people right there, buddy.
@Lord Vader
If Alderaan doesn't get it, you blew it...
... up.

And this is special news because?
@yeoldgreat1 Because people in those countries might want it without having to pay outrageous prices on eBay?
@yeoldgreat1 Because everyone knew it would annoy the hell out of you to the point that you'd post a stupid, inane, annoying comment that's been posted by 100,000 other people like you.
Yawn! They are pointless anyway...
@Inchigh of course they are, but I want one so bad =)
@creiij
Why?
@cardfan Because if there's no "i" in your pad, you blew it.
@cardfan
Because he doesn't care. It has the Wi-Fis.
@BlackedOut
And the GBs
@Inchigh
I remember you. Yeah, your the guy 10 years ago that said cell phones, HDTV's, and laptops were pointless.
@jph89 You know before owning one I would have said that comparison was ludicrous but being the proud owner of an iPad I think the comment is right on target. The iPad displaced my Macbook Pro and $3000.00 gaming computer by being easy to use and always available.
If the resolution out to a monitor was higher and I could use a mouse when remote connecting to my Win7 desktop it would replace my laptop for work related tasks.
That should be task one for Apple increase the resolution out to at least 1920x1200. Also think the remote desktop clients should add some kind of mouse emulation drivers to allow connection via bluetooth or USB.
On the hardware side I want a dock that contains multiple USB ports, charging capability, video out, and a usb port for sync to a computer.
The first release of the iPad in my book gets a 9.5. It could be better but what it is gets high marks in my book.
I assume all these countries could have ordered it online from any of the several online shopping sites?
By "hitting" these countries I assume you mean their stores will have local stock?
@CodyTech they could have i suppose. but have you tried to buy something form a different country where the currency is different form yours?
haha its not as easy as putting in your card number and hitting submit.
@audrywienerdog I know its not as easy as, but it should be..
Cody
I totally forgot that I have one! It was nice and exciting first, but then, you don't know what to do with that thing! It is a big phone that is very uncomfortable to hold...
@elibi
A big phone that you can't make calls on.
Much like the iphone 4!
@elibi
Well, I totally forgot I had a laptop after I imported my iPad from the US, and I honestly don't even remember when I last booted the laptop. So apparently, not everyone has a usage pattern that fits it, but I sure do.
Hopefully they'll finally open up the iBooks store this friday as well, since there have only been a bunch of free copyleft titles in it up till now. I'd love to buy and read books on my iPad, but right now it's practically useless over here, unless you like reading classic novels (which I don't).
@elibi That's exactly why other companies are holding-back from releasing their tablets just yet. They're worried that people will see them as pointless and not a true netbook replacement. Apart from Apple, the only other companies who have had the balls to release the device are Fusion Garage with the JooJoo and Dell with the Streak. Neither of these have been a 'success'.
@elibi I'm loving mine, and after I use it, I find browsing with a mouse kind of tedious, as ridiculous as that sounds. I think it fits in my hands well, too.
It's pretty much put my laptop on ice. Granted, it's a couple years old, but it makes my one portable feeling laptop seem like a brick.
@drange Yeah good luck going blind reading a full book on that screen.
@elibi
If it would be that bad, I would already have gone blind from looking at other computer screens 40+ hours a week. The whole 'you need an e-ink screen to read from a screen' thing is a myth, based on the assumption that LCD screens haven't improved at all in the last 15 years.
@elibi Maybe you can let your imaginary friends play with your imaginary ipad.
Wonder if it comes with a free bumper
@mayhem121
Y'know, they probably could rock that external antenna design on the iPad, even with the issue, and it not be a problem.
This toy is going all the world
Great, another reason for the rest of the world to hate the U.S.
