Whoa! After
breaking the 1GHz barrier just three weeks ago, dauntless modder unixpsycho is back with yet another insane hack for the aging
Palm Pre. What's new? Why, this "SR71 Blackbird" custom kernel, which simply pushes the poor little OMAP3430 processor up to 1.2GHz -- that's twice the original clock speed, just so you know. As glamorous as it sounds, potential users are triple-warned about this mod potentially
failing the webOS device in one way or another, despite the built-in speed-scaling mechanism to cap the device at 55 degrees Celsius (131 in Fahrenheit). And needless to say, don't expect your stock battery to hold up for more than a few blinks once implemented. Good luck,
pilgrims.
Sooo weird. I just watched this movie tonight for the first time. And now it's here o_o
We have to keep this processor operating at 1.2ghz or this pre will explode !
I'm sure someone already did this but I'm too lazy to read the comments when there is no flame war to laugh at.
This is not a F'n android post! Who in the f cares if " it's been clocked at 1.3"?!? Android will NEVER be as good as WebOs... Never.
@Richard Lai
gj mentioning both celsius and fahrenheit, hope to see this kind of thing as common practice on engadget
"aging pre"? Thanks Engadget for giving us Pre owners even more "issues" /sniff
That's going to be one sweaty palm
Just don't do it, I don't think they make enough batteries to handle that speed for a Pre. Lol
Yup, battery drain is my biggest concerns right now, speed is awesome though! Havent streamed enough to test the heat issues...
That thing would be so sweet melting in your hand experiencing the true power of the pre. i don't need skin with the pre replacing my hand. terminator style.
