Some Droid X handsets have defective screens? (video)
All's not well in Creepy Red Eye land, if reports out of several cell phone forums can be believed -- a number of early Droid X adopters are documenting serious graphical or possibly electrical problems with the handset's giant screen. While we don't know how widespread the issue might be quite yet, symptoms include rapid flickering and vertical banding over all or part of the 4.3-inch LCD. Several forumites claim to have already had their phones replaced, in some cases being told the defect was a common problem in their respective launch day batches. We've contacted Verizon for confirmation and hope to have a response soon; in the meanwhile, see video examples of both issues after the break, and let us know if you've seen similar glitches in comments below.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

The Droid X is so badass it actually scared the shit out of itself (hence the screen).. #gangsta
Screengate?
Mine is ffine so far. Im using it now lol.
That sucks for motorola. One tenth of a percent ain't bad. Not saying that they should have seen it, but they really needed zero problems right now bad timing. I have mine and the eight people I know haven't had a problem other than some apps not being on the store at first.
You're touching it wrong!!!
So let's see the Gizmodo crusade begin!
Gentlemen, gentlemen......lol
This is no different than getting an HDTV with a broken screen. This can be fixed by getting a new phone....
See,....this wasnt designed like this...these things do happen.
This is a minor issue-- a hardware defect that affects a very small amount of phones. They identified it quickly and are solving it quickly-- that is the right way to handle the problem. Every manufacturer has problems-- it's how you solve them that matters. Having said that, I think the iPhone antenna issue is different. Despite similarly affecting a very small number of users, it is not a hardware defect but a design decision, though one shared by most phones to varying degrees (as evidenced by numerous videos and instructions manuals). This design decision was a trade-off, making reception worse for .5% of users while making it better for 99.5% of users. That seems like an acceptable trade-off, and calling it a "flaw" that exists for all users but does not "manifest" itself to all users is a distinction without a difference. I don't think Apple was as forthcoming as they should have been initially, but to be fair it seems the antenna issue was more complex than an obvious hardware defect like the Droid faces, and warrants a well thought out response. I feel like the issue has been satisfactorily addressed by Apple, though I would bet the design will be modified in future versions. Neither of these issues alone would dissuade me from purchasing an iPhone or a Droid.
looks like apple is not the only one having problems. This issue with screen in these videos could turn potential customers away. i guess it depends on how wide spread it is. if it becomes too widespread it could tarnish Motorola's image as a manufacturer.
