Some Droid X handsets have defective screens? (video)
All's not well in Creepy Red Eye land, if reports out of several cell phone forums can be believed -- a number of early Droid X adopters are documenting serious graphical or possibly electrical problems with the handset's giant screen. While we don't know how widespread the issue might be quite yet, symptoms include rapid flickering and vertical banding over all or part of the 4.3-inch LCD. Several forumites claim to have already had their phones replaced, in some cases being told the defect was a common problem in their respective launch day batches. We've contacted Verizon for confirmation and hope to have a response soon; in the meanwhile, see video examples of both issues after the break, and let us know if you've seen similar glitches in comments below.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

@jason s
30fps limit, lame.
Sad to hear that. Motorola had a lot of quality imbued in their original Droid. Sad to see errors happen in their next-gen Flagship Android device.
Let's hope the Droid 2 fairs better.
Failing to accept input is an Android design feature, as is daily rebooting.
That's Motorola for you right here...!!!
worst than iPhone 4...
You are looking at it wrong.
Lol at all the fandroids bringing up apple and their problems every butt f*cking chance they get. You guys look like jackasses right now.
Just agree that all electronics have their problems, some big some small. Get what you want and if you are happy with it, why bother trying to put others down? Not only do you probably have a horrible reputation with your real name, but now with your handle.
As for on topic, as long as its not too widespread people can always go back and get a new one.
@stockpile
"as long as its not too widespread people can always go back and get a new one"
Your final statement is the difference between Droid and iPhone 4. This is mainly QC issue that arose in the first batch of many electronic product. If we don't want to face this issue, just don't be an early adopter then everything should be fine. Anyway, we can still get a replacement to fix this issue.
However, no matter how many iPhone 4 you have replaced, the problem will still be there. The worse thing is Apple originally expected us to BUY a bumper to fix this issue. Apple is willing to provide free bumper now but lots of people has been disappointed.
The bashing of iPhone 4 is so serious is not mainly because it has problem, it is because the attitude of Apple when this issue arose.
Many people bash Apple is actually because of how Apple treated its customers.
@Rockchan How the hell do you know all this? How do you know that there isn't a defect in the way the phone is designed?
Silly Android fanboys. Stockpile is 100% on target about you guys.
@stockpile
All of the Apple bashing is because those of us who aren't iFans are sick and tired of all the Apple propaganda, stupid pretentious apple fanboy pricks constantly rambling on about how their idevices are superior and Apple's shitty business practices. What's so hard to understand?
This is completely overblown. Only .56% of people have complained about this and other phones have this same problem if you squeeze the phone extremely hard. There is no problem.....there is no problem........there is no problem.....
Was this before or after GlaDoS was "murdered"
I haven't had any problems with my screen yet. The screen has been great; really been impressed with it. Also to my knowledge, the Droid X doesn't use an AMOLED. I believe it's a TFT like the original Droid.
Doesn't surprise me I have the org motor Droid and am number 3 first one had a short so it would vibrant all the time, second one just kept restarting so far so good with number 3.
@nakedpenguin
Still on my first Droid since early December, aside from a couple weird and extremely rare errors I haven't had any problems. I love it.
wish it wasn't sold out everywhere
So far I have not seen one phone without issues this year. Really disappointing...
At least the antenna works :D
@mtecomputers
Yeah atleast they can call customer support :D
I'm pretty sure there is always a bad batch or two of phones produced on launch it seems (unless you're apple and that's your entire product line). With as much focus on this phone it's going to be obviously be blown out of proportion and people fail to notice the word "SOME". I for one am loving my Droid X and it's non flickering screen.
Evo is made by HTC = Better than Craporola™
@DoomLight ya especially running at under 30fps
@DoomLight Are you seriously starting an argument like that?
Always someone feels the need to pull crap like this, grow up.
@DoomLight
Dont worry guyies, this guy just hasn't noticed his evos screen peeling yet
@DoomLight
Oh god now Fandroids troll each other, so gay
@HighestRanked2
The iPhone's problem is due to a DESIGN issue. The iPhone, when in perfect health and with no problems will still have its signal drop when held a specific way due to a DESIGN issue that is systemic in the phone.
This is an issue akin to a dead pixel or a loose screw. Happens all the time on new launches (like the yellowing screen issues on the iPhones).
Now you're implying that people who don't like the iPhone are alcoholics? Wow, you're insane.
I've seen one that seemed to have a "river" under the screen... reminded me of used Voyager screens after 2/3 years
Droid Doesn't
@crow610
Droid doesn't. +1000000, X marks the spots of the flashing on the screen. I also heard that the evo 4 is having problems w the screen not sticking on to the phone. Sd card problem...
@iZach And that iphone 4, signal problems, proximity sensor problems and a fragile glass case that shatters on one drop.
This is not a problem, this is a new type of display that Motorola just released to compete with the iphone 4 retina display. this is way to advance for an human eyes to see, Motorola will release X glasses soon, stay tuned.
@galac
Motorola: You're looking at it wrong.
@pika2000
no dude, the only company with the god damn audacity to actually say something so blatantly insulting to a consumers intellect is apple. period. thats what your brand loyalty gets you with apple, denial and insults
@Mike10010100
Mike, you're stating the obvious there.
Droid X glasses coming soon!
I've Had Zero Problems With My Droid X, Had It Since Launch Day.
No, this is just a new feature of Motoblur :p
oh this one is terrible than iPhone4 antenna issue .whatt wrong with u moto?
@liuweneg They had an aneurysm trying to decipher your speech...
I hope motorola makes lots of excuses, then says "everyone has screen problems", and then gives out free cases. That would be the best PR move they could make on this.
@everyone does
Hey, it worked for Apple. Why not try? Haha.
Looks like that phones possesed
Are they holding it the right way?
i'm actually loving all of these phone malfuntions/design issues this year. like, how many people can show their friends a cool magic trick with their iPhone 4 where with the touch of a finger, they lose reception?! Or how many people can show their friends their Droid X screen working, and then OOOOH it's flickering!? Yea, flaws make each product unique and exciting :D
Now excuse my ignorance, but is the probably the screen itself that something happened during the manufacturing process, or would it be the software. There an update for the Droid X starting tonight and maybe they're aware of the issue and a fix for that is involved as well?
I haven't heard much about this, so maybe its not so wide-spread, but I have heard 2 people had this issue. I assumed it might have been damaged along the way to the retailers..
@EggoEspada
Definitely looks like a hardware fault to me. The main article picture looks exactly like what happened with my HP 30" monitor two weeks ago. So maybe a bunch of Droid X's will have to get a warranty replacement/repair...and I'm hoping mine won't be one of them!
On the plus side, there should be a good supply of inexpensive refurbished X's on sale somewhere in a couple of months!
@Mike10010100 Yeah, when held in an unnatural way, except for lefties. Most people don't have the problem no matter what your pathological apple-hating little mind tells you. You're beating this dead horse much too much, truly you are neurotic.
FFF FRAGMENTATION
Maybe Froyo will fix it..oh wait..
@crow610 Yes, thats the logical explanations fro a screen issue, fragmentation. People like you ignorance is amusing.
@crow610
Fragmentation of OS = defective screen hardware in some units? Logic fail.
