Transformable Wall-E gets recreated with some love, Lego and DIY skills (video)
Sure, you'll have seen Lego-based Wall-E imitators before, but few recreate both the cuteness and the basic functionality of the drone quite like this one here. Programmed using Lego Mindstorms, this adorable little creation can transform itself into a box (like the real Wall-E!), pick up and carry objects, look up and down, and even produce and respond to sounds. It can be controlled remotely or left to do things by itself. Follow the break to see it on video.

I pity Wall-E.... He always looks so sad:/
@Firewave
Well, when you're the last robot on Earth full of trash left by humans...
Sigh.
Where is EEEEVVVVAAAAAA!!!!
@nooruls143
Being made in China?
@nooruls143 Classified.
It looks a bit stop-frame to me at points. Where's morph when you need him...
It looks like Wall-E but moves like a patient with Parkinson's Disease.
i would be terrified if i woke up to find wall-e with it's lid open, trying to compact my head in the night...
but even if it did that i couldn't shoot it. nope. too adorable...
that's how they'll get you.
@Wiggy Fuzz That's what she said.
Very cute, but very slow.
Those who only just criticised: Try to build one and then you can talk!
@egyedp
Eh.. why? Sure it may be tough, but are you suggesting nobody can criticize product "x" if they haven't made one themselves? By your reasoning, we cannot criticize iPhone4 then since we all haven't made a phone ourselves, huh?
@canny Constructive criticism is absolutely ok. However, when some people make a short comment focusing solely on the shortcomings of a product (and Im not talking about the iPhone 4 but this WALL-E) I cant help wondering whether these people have already contributed to anything at all in life or engadget forum is the only place for them where they can be "da man". I think anyone who took the effort and time to build this WALL-E deserves more than just call his/her product a patient with Parkinson's Disease. Not to mention those who suffer from the disease itself...thanks for the reminder :S
looks like robot Woody Alan.
Nice job!
"Waaeellllluuuuiiiiiiiii!"
- "Eeeeeuuuuuvaaaaaah!"
Great dialogue :)
@TheAmazingWJV The lack of dialog was an artistic decision, and greatly done! There was very little dialog, and yet using "facial" expressions and body language, they were able to communicate a ridiculously wide range of emotion. Pretty amazing, actually, imho.
@tadghostal I actually agree, it was very well done. And they did it again in the first twenty minutes of Up.
does anyone else not see the video?
Wicked.....
I love Lego good to see some people still remember how to be creative with it, and not jsut build crap from the instructions.
That's pretty friggin' ingenious!
This is the sweetest coolest video I've seen. But your missing only one thing out of your hole demo. HE DIDN'T DO THAT LIL TURN THING When he did that short dance for EVA!!
Ironically creating more garbage MUAH HA HA HA HA!!!!!
Can't deny that it is pretty impressive. Although I would've loved to see the picking up of objects.
I dunno, pretty skeptical that there isn't some stop motion in there to fully transform it, there are a few lighting changes that make it feel sort of hacked. Understand that it takes a bit more time to for the lifting to take place but just to prove the naysayers wrong I'd pop in another video showing the full transformation.
Don't get me wrong, it looks amazing and really have the urge to run out to Toys'R'us and pickup a mindstorms set to see it's potential. Just a little criticism
Wall-E looked like a PC and EVA looked like a Mac
In fact the whole spaceship where the humans were looked Apple themed...
In fact Steve Jobs used to own Pixar and still has a ton of shares in it...hmm....
