China happy with Google's latest tweaks, saga appears at an end
The China versus Google spat seems to be drawing to a conciliatory end today, as a senior state official has announced China is "satisfied" with Google's latest round of changes. This was somewhat predictable given that the country just recently renewed El Goog's license to host sites within its borders, but it's always reassuring to get confirmation from an official source. The American search giant had tried to strike a precarious balance, by having its local .cn domain adhere to Chinese laws and dictum while also providing a link out to its uncensored Hong Kong hub, and that seems to have done the trick. Ultimately, even the .hk search results will be subject to China's firewall -- which will render the most sensitive info inaccessible -- but at least Google can walk away from this dispute claiming that it's providing uncensored search in some form, even if its output can't always be put to good use.

Their house, their rules.
@snugs Very true.
@snugs
Google's Earth, Google's rules.
lol sorry just had to say
Honestly, I don't give a shit about what happens in China:
1) We have tons of problems of our own
2) I can't do ANYTHING about it
3) The Chinese should have thought twice before choosing such a dick(tator) as their leader...
@loocas China doesn't have a dictator.
Nothing much has been changed since Google left China. The change is just from automatically redirect to showing a link for people to click.
If people feel fine when Google left China, they should feel fine by just changing the redirection from automatic to manual.
If people feel bad on this, they should criticize Google when it left China. Criticizing Google today is really outdated and show their ignorant about what had actually happened after it left China.
Business first.............
STFU. Mission Accomplished

I hate is how people think Google is somehow less evil that MSFT. They are more evil in my opinion because they try to act like they aren't.
Hypocrites. Money rules the world. Google sucks.
lol i laughed at the google/china issue when it originally started... it was such an odd move and all the morons going good job google, i just rolled my eyes off and wondered how long before they submit.
chinas rules are whack
Everyone needs to get off their high horse and thank Google for at least doing SOMETHING. It isn't an all or nothing proposition! Those that think Google messed up should spend their time creating VPN tunnels and proxies to allow the Chinese to pass the Great firewall.
