Engadget Podcast 205 - 07.20.2010
Which is more important, the fact that Microsoft rolled out a brand-new developer preview of their mobile OS or the fact that Nilay can get some free protection from Apple for his sweaty kill-hands? You be the judge.

Better late than never.
@nonexcludable They only recorded it yesterday! But yeah that was late.
@nonexcludable
Yeah was hoping for it early.
But LOL, Josh's Steve Jobs impression is classic. Love it!
2 minutes on the Windows 7 Phone and 44 minutes on the iPhone free cases. Okay then.
Oh, never mind. My mistake. Need an edit button!
@Son Goku no, WP7 coverage starts at 2:25, and iPhone coverage at 44:00. slightly confusing ;)
@Son Goku
Well, it is a time index in the audio rather than a duration.
@Son Goku lol.
@Son Goku
haha. you get some upranking anyway.
It's 3G, and has the Wifi's
I want the one with the bigger GBs
Wow..this went up pretty quickly. :)
Thank you Engadget!
Nice, it's actually already in the RSS feed.
To answer your question Nilay, the killer features in WP7 (aside from the gorgeous UI) are office mobile, xbox live, and zune. I don't know what else you want but as far as mobile OSes go that is enough to set it apart from the rest.
@Edobe Office mobile will be a major thing here (but that's really only for business types), can't see many students editing essays on the way to class. Xbox live will be very interesting, I hope they do the in game unlocks for completing things on the phone, but fear we're hearing too much about turn-based. I haven't really seen the Zune interface in action (living in the UK), so will have to wait and see.
@d0mth0ma5
I'll have you know I completed most of my degree on the way to class.
heh podcasts rocks =)
anyway to subscribe to iTubes?
@lopata shit, i didnt noticed the link -_-
To the Engadget editors:
Love the podcast, guys, but I must say that the self-referential "We're obviously paid by Apple" humor is getting more annoying than the "You guys are paid by Apple" accusations.
I downloaded this almost 6 hours ago...
I used the MP3 link from the previous podcast and I changed the number to 205...:) I've even heard it already.
great podcast. kudos.
Microsoft hasn't paid me to develop for them...I guess my cheques in the mail lol
Synergy every1 comes in from facebook even if they have their numbers listed or not.
Attempted to download straight to 3G iPod touch - got a "this podcast can not be played on this ipod" error message. Always download this way, so not sure what's going on here.
The theme music was awesome, can I get it somewhere? Willing to buy.
The podcast was one of the funniest.

Free download for the opening music.
@crass1984 Hey thanks. Awesome mixing
Why do I always get an error when I try to download it right from my iPhone?.. I hate having to download it on my Mac and then sync it!!!!!
@Pixelwix
Because you're holding it wrong?
Honestly, I think this podcast put a nail in that. That was my last one ever.
@nonexcludable Ever ever?
@Joshua Topolsky Nah, it never gets old.
The last 8 minutes of this podcast is über funny!!!
Good podcast, gentlemen. After owning all of iPhones 2G, 3G, 3GS, and 4, I'm convinced that the rumor about the communications software being full of bugs or not optimized is TRUE. The call drop rates for the iPhones are higher than other AT&T phones (dumb or smart). There is something happening in the software.
The Wired mag article certainly helps my conspiracy theory with AT&T disagreeing with Apple's choice of chipsets.
Just hoping Apple fixes these "bugs" in a software update with no fanfare and no press conference :-)
Great podcast! i actually want to hear some more of the "Jobs"hua on every podcast. :)
Nilay, (no homo) but I LOVE YOU for saying Appleton, WI. at 30:32, its my hometown! and the local paper is called 'Post Crescent.' Also, I found the wedding article and they quoted Nilay.
"The horse is very traditional. In India, a lot of grooms ride elephants," Patel said with a grin. "But we couldn't find an elephant."
good job Nilay, ha.
Good podcast guys!
This was my first podcast... it certainly won't be my last. Brilliant stuff.
Love Josh and the steve jobs impression always hilarious!!
Finally Josh channels Steve Jobs. The only reason I tune into the show. Thanks.
I was really eager to listen to you guys talk about the importance of multitasking in a mobile OS, but I accidentally hit the Home button on my Android phone and your podcast immediately shut off.
Kinda weird that such an important feature isn't even coded into your own Android app, but hey, maybe I'm just nitpicking, right?
Perhaps it is not so surprising that Microsoft have placed OneNote front and centre. Does anyone else comprehend how potent OneNote could be as a hub for transferring rich information between applications and resources? ... implemented properly it could certainly make "copy and paste" look a tad quaint. Being a microsoft core application it would naturally be welcome in the fully multi threaded multi tasking core of the OS. Perhaps we will see this at launch perhaps later but I can't imagine OneNote is there with no means to populate it or to draw information from it.
