Dell Streak available for purchase 'in late July,' says US product page
It's funny to think, even after reviewing the device (thrice, at this point), that we still don't have a US release date for Dell's Streak. The company's been uncharacteristically coy, but the stateside product page does offer this tantalizing tidbit: "available for purchase in late July." That gives us a good 10-day window, so if you've been eyeballing that pre-sale button with intent to click, now might be the time jump on the list.

Oh good, at least it has tri-band UMTS.
So what's the Macolyte official party line then?
3.5 inch touchscreen rulez!
10 inch touchscreen rulez!
5 inch touchscreen sux!
No Android 2.2 .. no release date for Germany... grrr
Could this be the worldwide release?
I can't wait to buy one!!!!!
Hi all,
Well I've been using my Streak for a little over 6 weeks now and it's really been a great device for me. The difference between the 1.6 and Dells custom UI and 2.1 is really very slight in fact so slight as to hardly make any difference. Unlike of course when 2.2 will be released but lets face it up to now really only the Nexus One has got the 2.2 update and from the start Dell have confirmed 2.2 will be coming to the Streak via an OTA update so really that's not much of an issue is it? unless of course you want to make it one.
I really couldn't care less about the dpi figures what i do care about is how the screen looks and performs in the real world and for that the screen is stunning. I've never seen any pixels and it's bright sharp and clear even outside in sunlight and as far as I'm concerned i couldn't ask for or want anything more. In fact it's so bright that unlike on any other device I've used and owned i actually find myself turning the brightness down from full at night or in darkened environments.
Sorry but in 2010 on a Internet and Media centric device a 3.5" screen just no longer cuts it what ever the dpi may be it's just way to small well it is for me. If how ever a 3.5" screen is best for you fair enough enjoy it and get a device that suits you best.
It may not be the smallest of devices but then once you put a 5" screen in any device it has to be a certain size but it's thin and feels great in hand. Also i would have to say build quality is very good it feels like a quality device and looks good to not cheap or nasty as some devices do. The other thing really worth mentioning is the fact that the Streak for most users is delivering outstanding battery life which considering it's screen size really is a bit of a surprise. Like most i can't wait for 2.2 to hit the Streak and improve it further but for me and for now it's by far the best device I've owned and theirs nothing i would swap it for. It does all i want and need with ease no lag or stutter and everything responds instantaneously as it should as i said what is great is that i know it's only going to get even better once it gets 2.2 and I'm looking forward to that. One last thing i should mention is that the Streak has already been Rooted and has Custom Roms available now offering users greater choices for customising their Streaks.
As for how popular or how well the Streak is and will sell well here in the UK the only place it has launched so far is with the carrier 02 who have it as an exclsuive and it is sold out.
@Dogmann Good point, but you see that to defend it, the post had to be long. The only good thing is that it's thin with a 5" screen.
After that you have, out of date OS, low resolution, bad camera (tho 2 is nice, too bad no app for it...), weird keyboard, etc.
Plus the biggest downfall is the delayed launch. If it was out six months ago, and US launch plus 2.2 came out 2 months later, that would be good. But by the time it hits the states, and gets 2.2, there will be launching 1.5GHz phones with beautiful screens, 3G+, great cameras, all with 2.2, that google said would be easily updatable to 3.0 through app market. It's just too late Dell, you gotta rush just a little
iPhone 4 - 326 ppi
Apple wins, next.
@OpenSourceSux
Yeah, cause without that ppi spec a phone wouldn't even be able to make a call (oh wait) yet alone check your email.....fanboi trolls. *shakes head*
@Waltah the resolution is just intoxicating, i cant blame him. But if apple is against increasing handset screen size, I'm out. Consider me a convert.
People will lineup to buy this android 1.6 device ....what ever Dell.
this thing looked cool when i heard about it last year. now that it has taken so long to be released it is already outdated.
@iPhone567
You answered that yourself, "iPhone and iPad combo" it's designed to be a highly portable table that can fill your phone needs.
I played with one at an O2 store yesterday, it's a very nice device.
I consider this week forward to be "late July" where the heck is it Dell?
@iPhone567
I need a phone like this for my man hands. You can keep your iphone with your dainty hands.
i'm waiting for the dell thunder its got more bang for my buck :D on a smaller scale
