Google
warned us that the
Nexus One was approaching the end of its days, but we've gotta admit, we didn't realize just how quickly that moment would come. Sure enough, Google's official online store for the phone now just shows an ominous message that "the Nexus One is no longer available for purchase directly" from the company, which means you're going to have to go through Vodafone, KT in South Korea, or hold out for the units that they plan on selling directly to registered developers. Needless to say, for the bulk of potential customers, the phone is all but history. So, on that note, Nexus One: for your straight-shooting stock Android ways and your unlocked radio, you'll be dearly missed -- and we hope your legacy lives on, even though your retail model does not.
[Thanks, Dan]

I've gotten deep into these AMAZING phone Samsung VIBRANT by TMOBILE is releasing and there is no doubt they far outrank every single phone out there in so many ways!
#1 - Screen; 100,000:1 compared to iPhone4's 800:1 Real World contrast ratio. But it's the response time that kicks every phone on the planet to the curb being 0.01ms. Which is as close to instantaneous as you can get. Especially compared to iPhone4's snail response time of 25ms. Why is this so important? Because these phones are NOT eReaders!
If you want a over rated ereader, then iP4 is your best choice. If what you want is a Multimedia Phone then Samsung's Super AMOLED is your BEST CHOICE. Play games or watch action movies? Super AMOLED!

(note: the original page this graph is from destroys the myth of higher pixel density. It explains that in the fall when 2.2 Android is available for Galaxy Series phones SVG vectored fonts (resolution free 300dpi) and higher dpi icons will shed a new light on the subject. Also it relates to the sweet spot view distance for the screen size)
#2 - Samsung makes 50% of the cost of all parts in iPhone4. In so doing, they've strived to put better parts into their own phones while Apple went CHEAP. Hummingbird blows Apple A4 away merely by having the full Arm Neon Multimedia Engine and OS support programed into Android. But not fully deployed until Android 2.2. On top of that you have the first time the SGX540 GPU has been put in a device. It can display 3x what the iP4 or any other phone out can at 90million Triangles/p/sec and with that Super AMOLED screen, when 2.2 comes out it'll get all phones to the curb.
#3 - Samsung has the newest and best radios out. Compared to any other device. First phone to have WiFi Direct b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 (10x speed of iP4's BT2.1), DLNA Media Server and w/ Android 2.2 full OS support for all these. 3G/4G Baseband Radio w/ Full VOIP (Voice/Video) supported radio. Meaning when Google/GIPS HD Video Conferencing is released for Galaxy, they will have Facetime's Engine running on hardware capable of using it over 3G/4G (btw Facetime is running GIPS Engine). Galaxy has TV-Video Out via it's headphone jack. Cameras both have Smile and Face detection. 5mp camera has outstanding low light capability and again when 2.2 comes out dramatic changes will come into use with it's ambient light sensing abilities and auto backside lighting effects. Adobe is expanding the features of it's Photoshop Mobile for Android. Of course there is more on the way in features that are hidden at this time, but you've made a great choice if you own one of these Galaxy Series Phones!!!
Till Android 2.2 update for this bad boy, you will not see what else it can do.Then if they will not do the OTA, i'll get the update in the fall. That's what I gathered from a Korean site. That support was coming and that some surprises having to do with high res fonts and icon in an update soon. That would show off the Super AMOLED's Resolution (a swipe at Retina, because it's the 300dpi fonts Apple's using that are making it look sharper for reading along w/ extremely high dpi icons. Compared to Android's low res icons and low dpi non SVG converted to SVG fonts (for vectored Resolution Free fonts).
I've seen other mentions of the radio referred to as FM RDS so that would mean something about it being capable of receiving road construction bulletins, etc.
This is Broadcom page on the part number from the tear down:
http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Solutions/BCM20751
Samsung Galaxy Series phones are the first to receive this WiFi Direct capable SoC and some interesting things are coming from other features in it too.
FM Radio w/RDS and FM Recording as well in Wave. So Bada supports more features than Android does as yet. Same chis in both though!

Note: All Action Graphics, Games, etc in the future are going to look far better on Super AMOLED Galaxy than iPhone or any other LCD or AMOLED Screen. Because of the super fast response time and contrast ratio and the fact NO IPS LCD has a chance in hell of competing with it. iPhone's abysmal 25ms is more like the first desktop LCD screens in speed. Fast action Games & Video will ghost and display irregularly. Especially since the Galaxy has been designed for the future w/ that 3x the display capability of iPhones SGX535 GPU at 90million Triangles/per/sec rendering speeds. Which is the reason it can put up HD 720p graphics over WiFi Direct DLNA or BlueTooth 3.0 DLNA to your HDTV. This is the reason they did not bother putting in an HDMI out port. Also because HDMI restricts graphics w/ HDCP. DLNA doesn't restrict anything being a wireless broadcast in the first place and being both Wifi 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz (unlike iPhone4, etc's 2.4ghz ONLY)!
My plan is to buy either the DirectTV Google Box or the Logitech GoogleTV Box. They are going to be WiFi Direct (I believe dual band as well). Along with Bluetooth 3.0 DLNA capable. This feature can auto Sync and because of it's extremely fast speed (faster than Wifi G or N) and low 6 to 30ft range it will not conflict with any other signals. Bluetooth 3.0 DLNA is the FUTURE!
Theres more exciting STUFF I can say but you need to research it & tweak the phone with coming Froyo & Gingerbread OS.
SAMSUNG IS THE FUTURE NOW IN SMARTPHONES, THEY HAVE THE BEST & LATEST TECHNOLOGY ESPECIALLY - MONEY...
@sir1honda If you look at the history of samsung and the details of the owner of samsung, you will know that it is a corrupt company , i would never buy a samsung product !
@sir1honda #1 You don’t notice the response time of the iPhone. That isn’t something you can see a difference of. Once a display reaches over a certain point, the human eye will not see a difference. The iPhone is also not an ereader. It may have a eBook application, but that doesn’t make it an ereader. The iPhone is also an unbelievable multimedia device. The high resolution display looks amazing when watching high def files. AMOLED displays don’t display true colors. All they do is boost it until it’s a giant rainbow mess. Over saturation is never a good thing. Color is great, but AMOLED is just rediculous, there’s no possible way that should be considered a good thing. There is also no myth to the iPhone or Androids resolution. iPhone is 960x640, all Galaxy S phones are 480x800. It doesn’t matter how you try to spin it, iPhone has a much higher pixel density that Android will never meet in 2.2.
#2 What the hell are you talking about, “Apple went CHEAP...?” Here’s some info you obviously don’t know. The hummingbird is the iPhone’s CPU, in fact the Hummingbird first debuted on the iPad. The A4 is just the Hummingbird, RAM and GPU on a single chip (SoC). The hummingbird in the iPhone is smaller, though, to work in the smaller space given. The iPad has the full-sized hummingbird, and, you know, the A4 and hummingbird were designed by........APPLE!!! You remember that story a while back when Samsung got butthurt because Apple was putting an in-house CPU in the iPhone, well the hummingbird was Apple’s CPU. Like I said, it was first introduced in the iPad, then Apple shrunk it down to fit in the iPhone. iPhone has the SGX535. The iPhone always used the best in GPUs. The iPhone has a better GPU than the Droid X, don’t stick the iPhone in the same boat as those other weak Android phones, the 3GS had the SGX530, which is better than most smartphones, today. The iPhone 4’ 535 paired with iOS will make it better than any other Android phone.
#3 You just love to bullshit, huh? iPhone has WiFi b/g/n and I’d like you to name as many devices as you can that use Bluetooth 3.0. The next iPhone will have came out and there still won’t be any devices that use 3.0. Your next huge sack of BS can be summed up with a, “ iPhone does that already,” well, exclude flash, which isn’t a plus to many.
At the end of the day the best gaming device will be the iPhone for the simple reason that, it’s got all of the games. I just played this new game, today, called Real Racing. I don’t even know if it’s on Android, but, shit, does it play on the iPhone 4. It’s the smoothest and fastest experience on a mobile phone. With the 3 axis gyro the motion sensing is so perfect you wonder how a game plays so well. You see, specs are specs, but pfp, iOS and iPhone will just blow away Android. There really isn’t anything a manufacturer can do, it’s all up to Google.
@Cold Dead Fingers Hey man, I wasn't gonna defend that guy cause he went way overboard, but you went way overboard the opposite way. A few things:
#1. Yes, Refresh rate doesn't matter after a certain amount, but if the iphone 4 is Really 25ms... That matters. You will see motion blur. 'S AMOLED oversaturation' is debatable, I've seen people argue it's more or less accurate, I've seen the screen, and didn't think it was.
#2. You actually have it the other way around, Samsung co-invented the Hummingbird with another company that Apple later bought.
#3. Let's see, another device with Bluetooth 3.0... 2 Galaxy S for transferring files to each other? a slew of new netbooks? Granted, with mobile hotspot capabilities coming in android 2.2, Bluetooth 3.0 won't be as useful as it was.
It's fine to love the Iphone, and even fight for it (I miss the old console wars), but try not to fight BS with more BS. They don't cancel out, you just get twice the $#t.

You know what? I can buy stuff that you cant & I can tweak it as long as I like, because I CAN...
Maybe those guy who just gave their opinion & will say Iphone is better ( i agree on design ) in hardware point of view ( why will samsung give the best components to apple - cpu/gpu in one,SAMOLED,best radios, best glass in the market, etc then they will put weaker ones to their phones?) thats totally moronic & ridiculous.
I'm half asian-white & I can say to you that I have the brain & know-how than you in checking facts & reality.
I have iphones from 1st gen to 3gs ( i test drive iphone 4 for 1 week then return it in apples store (galleria mall in Houston) ) I tweak them ( jailbreak & unlock (iphones) but when I bought Nexus one then put great ROM's & tweak it to my taste all iphones was blown away then here comes the iphone 4 with FFC then Retina display ( but its old tech ips-lcd ) thats why even the manufacturer -LG will not make more of it it as they will go to AMOLED too like SAMSUNG, do you know what happen last year when Steve Jobs wants so bad SUPER AMOLED ? They were told that SAMSUNG cant keep up with the production because the materials are rare, much harder to make & expensive - thats why he chose ips-lcd then he just announced its more advance than SUPER AMOLED - it isn't funny to you, he likes the former so much but turned away by samsung & now saying LG ips-lcd is much better ( its like your saying your CHEVROLET AVEO is way better than BUGATTI VEYRON ) because you cant have veyron as it will be so expensive & scarce? Then you will trash Veyron as your Aveo is way better, thats APPLE strategy-don't you know that?
Most components of APPLE products are made in ASIA with their advance technology & manpower.
Don't tell me because APPLE is good looking, its perfect...
Samsung vibrant, I just bought last July 18,unlock then I install the FROYO & iphone 4 can't even touch in the so called ereader category as Froyo corrected the problem in 2.1 that new Vibrant has now.
I know samsung vibrant is plasticky looking but do you have it now & play with it for 2 days? Its super light, extremely fast with froyo, multi touch is superb (your almost not touching it but it engage already the feedback), the video is much better than with 2.1 OS then the pictures are awesome & i can go on more with the capability of this bad boy especially gingerbread OS will be coming then I will tell you even the next OS of APPLE can't touch GINGERBREAD OF ANDROID.
I installed ios4 in my 3g & 3gs iphones but still even the 2.1 it can't compete then much more to froyo & gingerbread.
I think even a lady with sickness & HIV you will f u c k, because she is pretty ( thats how APPLE isheep are ) I bought gadgets & great cars because I feel its good & i can tweak the hell of it but if I feel theres much better one with same price, I will go ahead & get that one & will not submit myself to be slave from my former one, as its not giving me the best bang for my buck.
I'm not pro android or pro apple, I'm just stating facts here as I like to research & check the reality not just the rumors & what others saying.
Don't believe on those site that making money because of ads, believe on yourself when you touch it, test drive it & tweak it. Because 80%-90% of these websites are in their payroll, especially APPLE who are spending hundred millions in marketing a year ( ask me why I know because before we relocate here in Texas from California-i have bunch of friends who work with APPLE ).
What I like from Google doing now is reinvigorating the cellular market by showing to us how to be more open & how can we make things more easier, because in APPLE we are in a walled city that they will tell us what to do & not to. ( like dont hold it that way, theres no yellowish color in the lcd, we will not use flash and so on because STEVE Jobs is arrogant & flamboyant person, thats why he has cancer )
I know you will still have rebuttal in these very obvious situation, but one thing I can tell you - don't defend them because they will not care about you, THEY CARE ABOUT YOUR MONEY... I know it thats why I'm not defending any company here, I'm just stating facts & the reality not just marketing hype ( thats APPLE game ) they will LIE & will tell you that their products change everything even those technology they showing to you was from 5-10 years tech..
I have so many things to say here but believe me or not, don't waste your time here that much because work first & you will have your monthly rent coming in your apartment ( me i set aside my monthly mortgage -$3800 ) as I bought a house in SIENNA PLANTATION worth $425,000)
I'm in Medical field ( Nurse Anaesthetists ) and I just love to make my life easier after working 4 nights in a row...(7pm-7am)

I can't understand how these are still fetching $500+ dollars for an unlocked model. I waited forever but the price never went down. I was willing to buy an unlocked Nexus One for $280 brand new condition.
But I'm not gonna bother, I think I'll wait for Google's next move.
Die Nexus One!!!!!......
good riddance ! When companies give out free phones to employees the charm of the phone is lost. thats why i like apple, because it doesnt distribute iphones free. Looks like out of 100 android phones sold, atleast 60 are gifted, either at conferences or to employees ! Same with windows 7 now ! How far can companies fall to fight a losing war against apple ? I would say build a good product and then build an aura around it - dont kill it by giving it out free !
It's about figgin time! The Nexus One was utter crap. A piece of garbage that you find every once and a great while. A floating Turd who's only noticed because of horny overweight teenagers who believe success is driven on how much your phone and computer can do! Fooey HTC, Google and whoever wanted it to be popular. May it die and no one speak of it, again. Fuck HTC.
@Cold Dead Fingers Care to back up your statements with facts? "It didnt sell alot" doesn't mean it was a bad phone.
@Sizzmo yeah, not many people have a Lamborghini, but it doesn't mean they're awful.
@Sizzmo yeah, not many people have a Lamborghini, but it doesn't mean they're awful.
@Sizzmo yeah, exactly. Not many people have a supercar, but it dosen't mean they're rubbish.
@Sizzmo I didn't say it was a bad phone because it didn't sell well, I think it's a bad phone because of the mentality behind all of these Android phones. No phone can match the quality of the hardware and software like the iPhone and iOS. All these companies think they can even out by just throwing in some of the newest parts, but iPhone doesn't need the newest parts. The iPhone 4's GPU is years ahead of everyone else, hell, the iPhone 3GS' GPU is superior to the Droid X. The entire iPhone platform contains the best mobile experience in a phone. By that I mean: smoothest, polished, efficient. iPhone 4's battery life is superior to any Android phone, even though AMOLED is supposed to save a lot of power. Apple went LED and still owns the battery life space.
WHAT HAPPENED
Google decided to end production of the current Nexus One Android phone, suggesting everything comes to an end, eventually. And probably leaving the enthusiasts a with "oh, no so quickly" feeling.
BACKGROUND ACTION
While stress of phone sales off the shoulders, Google is possibly imagining the next wonderful machine: the longest battery life, the smart design, the fastest processor, the phone-radio-TV-microphone-all-in-one, one end speaking English while the other end speaking French machine, the back-lit on-and-off option to read books, Facebook-Twitter-GoogleMe-3-in-one... the big surprise will be the Nexus Two, with 4G networks
WHAT WILL HAPPEN
iPhone hype will remain at the same level for some time now, and the highly anticipated Windows Phone 7 will make every to-be user feeling something missing. While the tech savvy will be left thinking, "Should we call this a time of transformation, or not?," bang, comes Google Nexus Two
GREAT NEWS....
This will mean that my N1 will be rather exclusive and avoid that half the world around me would walk with one.....
PS as far as I know the N1 is still on sale directly from telco´s in Europe
Thank you google for the amazing phone
Time for the nexus 2!!!
@painfull2006 that would be nice, but the Droid phones are great. Have you checked them out?
@R94N Haven't looked much into them, what is the bets one?
RIP, the phone that started it all. I love the Droids now.
@R94N
The Motorola Droid came before this. It was the 'real' phone that captured people's imagination. It was the phone that created and solidified the Android demographic that is it's core customer group - white, lower middle income men in the 25-45 age range, mostly working in consumer electronics retail and IT support function type jobs....
The Nexus One had almost no impact in either defining the core Android market nor was it the phone through which most people experience Android. Most importantly, it was NOT a Droid, since Droid is a Verizon marketing concept. It was rejected BY Verizon to be part of the official Droid line up.
Nexus One was probably the most popular phone in 2 places:
1. People who work for Google
2. People who comment on Engadget and other tech blog sites
3. People who post anti-iphone comments all over the web
Outside of these 3 groups, it was a non factor and a failure for Google. The Droid by Motorola was a much more significant product and did more to increase the visibility of Android in the mind of the mainstream users than the Nexus One ever could. In fact the Nexus One was SO niche that issues that would have been show stoppers for other phones were put up with, bared with, ignored and otherwise buried. It suffered from a poor touch screen, primitive and crude UI, poor media player, very poor gaming performance and screen that was barely readable in outside conditions.
It was not the worst phone, but it was definitely a mediocre product that had almost no impact on the industry in any way whatsoever.
There. Finally a post that says it like it is.
If I were to guess, I'd say the next phone by Google will be called the Phoenix
@jaffreywali I'm sorry you haven't seen the Nexus One, but in Hong Kong, where they the N1 has some carrier support, it is quite common. Not nearly as common as the iphone 3gs, mind you, but I haven't talked to a Nexus One owner who didn't love his or her phone, including me.
Maybe I, and my 4 coworkers who bought one after seeing mine, and their friends, and the people I've seen on the street are all stupid and crazy for liking this 'non factor failure' (although to be fair, I stopped talking to people just cause they had N1s after a while, they were getting too common). Maybe my iphone 3gs friends were stupid for admitting the N1 was a nice piece of tech, and they were jealous of some features.
Or maybe the world is bigger than whatever town you live in, and in some places the N1 put Android on the map.
@Aylw
In Hong Kong
just got mine monday. glad i didn't wait another day.

I would've bought a Nexus One had it been either subsidized or AT&T would've offered a cheaper monthly rate to offset paying full price for the hardware. Shame really. Probably a lost sale for Android since no one else wants to put stock on their phones.
