Nonstop gaming world record has been shattered, victors sleep right through their parade
Prior to this past weekend, the world record for nonstop gaming stood at 40 hours. As of today, you'll need to rock 'n roll for 51 hours in a row if you'd like to claim this crown. A half dozen lunatics managed to game for 50 straight hours over the weekend in Rotterdam, playing Red Dead Redemption on Sony's PlayStation 3 until their eyes gave way. Of note, they utilized the TwistDock in order to keep their controllers juiced the entire time, and they walked away with €1,000 for their trouble. Last we heard, though, they're all in hibernation for the foreseeable future. Plenty of Dutch celebration awaits you in the video.

SIX GAMERS BREAK GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR NON-STOP GAMING
50 Hour World Record Title is Established
July 19, 2010, Rotterdam, The Netherlands -- Vogel's www.vogels.com, the leading European market leader in Audio/Video & TV mounting solutions, announced today that the Guinness World Record for non-stop gaming has been broken by six Dutch gamers during a 50 hour gaming marathon that started on Fri, July 16th at 12:55 PM Central European Time (CET), in Dixons, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
The six gamers played Red Dead Redemption non-stop on a Sony PlayStation®3 (PS3TM)) using the TwistDock docking station to keep their controllers continuously charged. The team of six champion gamers included brothers Edward and Maykel Leest from Boxmeer and Hengelo, Sven de Vries from Lelystad, Renzo Bos from Baarlo, Robbie van Eijkeren from Middelburg and Marcel van Waardenburg from Amsterdam. The world record award was given out by an official Guinness World Records representative who was flown in from London especially for the occasion.
The previous official world record for non-stop gaming was set in September 2009 by Chirantan Patnaik from India with a time of 40 hours and 20 minutes, which was easily trumped by the six Dutch gamers. As the competition progressed, the Dutch gamers' solidarity grew and they decided to sit and end the competition together. The gamers made the unanimous decision to end the attempt after an impressive 50 hours for a new world record title. In addition to the world record award, the new Guinness World Record winners received a cash prize of EUR 1,000 and six TwistDocks. "The contestants entered as rivals but left as friends," said Gaz Deaves, official adjudicator of Guinness World Records
With TwistDock, the PS3 is Always Ready for Action
The Guinness World Record gaming event was an initiative created by Vogel's to announce the new essential accessory for the PS3, Vogel's TwistDock www.twistdock.com. With TwistDock, the PS3 is always ready for action -- even when the computer is off, the controllers are always being charged. And because of TwistDock's ingenious turning mechanism, it's easy to stow two controllers on the back of the TwistDock and, by simply turning it around, have the controllers available at the flick of a wrist and always charged. There's no more annoyance of losing controllers in sofa cushions!
Gerdi Vogels, CEO of Vogel's Products BV said, "If you introduce a totally new product in the market which makes dead controllers a thing of the past, a new non-stop gaming world record is a fantastic statement underlining the core value of TwistDock."
TwistDock will be available in the U.S. starting 4Q 2010 in time for the holiday season. For more information, see the websites: www.twistdock.com and www.vogels.com.

@PrepaidAndroidUSA
true this. i made the mistake of clicking the "prestige mode" button, without reading the warning.
a little part of me died inside that day...
From left to right, the people in the image are:
nerd, shaolin monk, nerd, nerd, nerd, store owner, shaolin monk's evil twin and one of the nerd's moms (my guess is the one holding the cheque).
How far we have come as a society that we now reward people for sitting in a chair watching a TV screen without falling asleep.
Ive done this with a party of 4 on LIVE a few months back using Halo 3 and the new Left 4 dead
@Wiggy Fuzz
I know how you feel man :(
@PrepaidAndroidUSA
I used to do that all the time back in the days of Super Mario Bros.
But we would stay up for 72 hours straight. Kids today lack that type of gusto.
Where's my Grand?
Pssshhhhhh, I've gone 59 hrs without sleep during finals, and video games are far more interesting.
@PrepaidAndroidUSA Yeah, I'm really not that impressed, I've had some serious gaming marathons, maybe not 2 full days but I've witnessed 2 of my roommates do it, one on MW2 the other on Star Ocean.
Wasn't there someone who played WoW non stop for 72 hours? (can't remember where exactly)
@garfieldfriends Yeah, but in order to claim the record you have to be alive
@geck0k
hahaha +1
@geck0k
heh heh, you're highest rank but i'm still gonna hit +1
@garfieldfriends, there is another award for that it is called a Darwin.

@Boboloco
1st FAIL
@Boboloco This comment really contributed to the conversation and certainly wasn't blatant fanboyism. I'm also sure that that first you got enriched your life to the max.
@Boboloco Please don't feed the trolls.
@Imogen Heap 1st Win!
OMG, They Have no LIFE !!!!
@Isidith Well they walked away with €1k, so I wouldn't try to knock them that quickly...
@mr waffles
It as a reference to the World of Warcraft Southpark's Episode :p
I think it's impressive and they totally deserve it
@mr waffles Well, assuming they split the €1000, then that works out to € 3.33 per hour. Eh, not so great.
did they do any drug testing on these guys?
@Marko
I'm sure all the red bull they drank would really play havok on the readings.
I think the record is set from some chinese people Play and Die
I could beat this by playing Oblivion.
IT'S ON, RANDOM GUYS I'VE NEVER MET!
@gnargle
Challenge ACCEPTED.
@gnargle A CHALLENGER APPEARS!
@mr waffles But can I be bothered to do it?
THE STORY CONTINUES
Why does the girl at 0:47 look pissed off? Is the prize money coming out of her paycheck, or did she lose a bet?
Shit why didn't I call Guinness when I was playing WoW...
@Hobsie i second this.. ive played 80 straight when i had a broken ankle.. not joking either..
Not Pictured: Their virginity
Achievement Unlocked
100G No Life
Goed gedaan! ;)
Oh F(_)ck I bet his mum wasn't happy about him playing so long...
nice, i wish i cud do that!
I would have thought it would have been longer for a world record.
Ah, those crazy Dutch.
I didn't know the world record for non-stop gaming was that short, TBH.
Then again, more than 2 full days of gaming is epic.
The title should be Nonstop VIDEO gaming world record.
Otherwise I would have topped that with 56 hours of continius Pen&Paper RPG gaming. (some 15-20 years ago when I was a teenager) - no sleep, no breaks. It was awesome.
Like I already said on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/20/dutch-gamers-break-world-record-by-playing-for-50-hours-straight/2#comments):
The article isn't correct. According to Tweakers.net (http://tweakers.net/nieuws/68628/gamers-verbreken-wereldrecord-non-stop-gaming-update.html) (Dutch source), they had a ten minute break every hour and every five hours they had a break of 50 minutes.
So in all do respect to the gamers, with good power nap-training everybody could have done that...
That's almost $59,000 a year!
Holy....
It just took me 50 hours to beat FFXIII. I am unable to fathom doing that in one sitting.
Back in the day (high school) I played Star Ocean the Second Story for 78 hours straight.
I mean, what exactly is their definition of nonstop? Can you eat food? Use the toliet?
I mean, this sounds like a very silly record.
