@Sheppard I was just about to write that, with the 'oh dear' bit, what the hell are they thinking? that's if the do decide to change their proper logos, at least it's not as bad as the london 2012 olympics logo...
@MicrosoftOwns Your logic is faulty. I don't need to be a trained chef to know that a dish tastes awful, and I don't need to be a graphic designer to know what's aesthetically pleasing to my eyes.
see thats the thing, i doubt these are anything final. looks like some conceptual stuff, but i dont know if theyre legit, especially with the whole "logo floating in mid-air with a shadow underneath it"
your logic is faulty, people like to automatically say something is bad just because its a new logo for something that had the same logo for a long time. remember when people bad mouthed the new pepsi logo? and look, they lived with it.
the xbox logo looks great. lmao at people with no power commenting "HEY THATS UGLY" no, too bad its not, and you dont work in the graphic design industry thankfully. bet it doesnt have enough gradients or drop shadows for you, right?
OH MICROSOFT....this is...I dunno even know what to say about it except FUGLY.
I sense another great period of turbulence for this company. It started with Kin. Now Kinect has been announced with that absurdly high price and now this.
Somehow MS always finds a way to ruin a good thing.
@MicrosoftOwns Who the heck are you to tell what people think? You don't have to be graphics artist to know something is ugly. If it looks ugly to you...then it is. Do you let car experts pick what car you want to drive...do you?....nevermind.
@nxp3 A logo can be bad or good if you consider it due to laws of design. That said, it don't have to be good or bad to you specific! If it follows all the designrules for logos, it is good design, but not necessarily good looking for everyone:)
But it is not an Apple, so of course you don't like it, I hate it!:)
@MicrosoftOwns I normally vomit at the site of anything Microsoft and I don't like their software at all BUT credit is deserved where credit is due and this new "window" icon is much better than the old dated one, these people that dislike it don't really know, you're right. It's a simple, obvious solution to their older logo, I like it.
Its ok not awful. i guess they are trying to rebrand and become competitive again. MS does have power just hasnt flexed its muscles in some time. I dont know why people say 360 is a mess, its awesome and cutting edge. Win 7 kicks ass. Looks like the sleeping giant has woken up.
The London 2012 logo remains to this day the worst piece of design I have every laid eyes on. Its ugliness may never be matched again in human existence.
@Sheppard I actually think those logos are okay. As for the tagline, though, I would've picked something more appropriate, like: "Microsoft: We've fucked up for a while, but now we're doing ok!"
I have no issues with the brand logos. The funny thing about this all. As silly as some may think these are. When the first commercial advertising for one of these items pop up, youll know exactly which one it is. Without these before you wouldnt know what theyre advertising.
I work as a graphics designer too and I quite like the new Windows logo. Just because your a graphics designer, doesn't mean you're always right about these sort of things ;)
@Sheppard They are awful, but the most interesting thing here (to me) is the fact that there is no Zune logo. Is Microsoft about to ditch that brand or product line? Looks like it.
@chaosdisorder Exactly! ...and to further this thought... These logos are representing valuable brands to the public. If they aren't appealing the products might not be either. People really do buy with their eyes.
Seems that MS was smart enough to realize that these concepts didn't work.
I was responding to MicrosoftOwns comment, about people not being graphic designers. I wasn't trying to insinuate I was the authority on the matter. Also, see my other comment on why I don't like them, and tell me it doesn't make sense to you, as a designer.
HP has had plenty of time to fine-tune its finger-friendly TouchSmart software, and now, its newest model, the TouchSmart 610, ushers in a fresh design, highlighted by a hinge that allows the display to slide down and lie nearly flat.

@Sheppard
they are interesting concepts.
btw to people saying ugly, you probably have no graphic design knowledge.
googles logo with a drop shadow and a bevel isnt nice either. so so stfu
@Jean
The Bing logo looks like some scribbling that even a 3 year old kid can do.
@Sheppard looks kinda tic-tac-esque
@MicrosoftOwns I am a web and average graphic designer you said it yourself they are interesting CONCEPTS but that Xbox one is just a mess.
@MicrosoftOwns Your logic is faulty. I don't need to be a trained chef to know that a dish tastes awful, and I don't need to be a graphic designer to know what's aesthetically pleasing to my eyes.
I guess Microsoft employees like those silly bands my teenage daughter wears to school........
@Sheppard

@Sheppard looks a lot better in motion
I hope they're not! Windows Phone and Windows logo looks like some kindergartner drew it.
@MicrosoftOwns
I STILL think the Pepsi logo is terrible. I still drink it though, because I like it better than Coke. Same might apply to Windows.
Imagine the Windows 8 Start button
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The XBOX logo looks absolutely horrendous.
@Sheppard
the xbox logo looks great. lmao at people with no power commenting "HEY THATS UGLY" no, too bad its not, and you dont work in the graphic design industry thankfully. bet it doesnt have enough gradients or drop shadows for you, right?
@MicrosoftOwns The Pepsi logo has nothing whatsoever to do with what I posted. Ugly is ugly, whether it's new or old.
@Sheppard
OH MICROSOFT....this is...I dunno even know what to say about it except FUGLY.

@Sheppard
Is this an old post about the Engadget redesign.
Seriously people, they're great logos. Aren't we gadget nerds supposed to embrace change?
@MicrosoftOwns Who the heck are you to tell what people think? You don't have to be graphics artist to know something is ugly. If it looks ugly to you...then it is. Do you let car experts pick what car you want to drive...do you?....nevermind.
@nxp3
no obviously i let armchair experts in the comments section of a blog tell me
Looks like a Silly Bandz.
@Sheppard
Colourful but empty. Quite apt I'd say.
@Sheppard The video makes the logos look a little better, I think.

@Luke Sure, we're supposed to embrace change. That doesn't mean that everyone's tastes have to be the same though.
@iPhone567
agreed. the language in these logos is refreshing, and i like it.
@MicrosoftOwns I am a graphic designer, and they're awful.
@MicrosoftOwns go troll somewhere else.
@MicrosoftOwns I normally vomit at the site of anything Microsoft and I don't like their software at all BUT credit is deserved where credit is due and this new "window" icon is much better than the old dated one, these people that dislike it don't really know, you're right. @aidmm I was thinking the same thing. You have kids, don't you?
@MicrosoftOwns Wow, resorting to 4th grade name calling sure validates your points.
@MicrosoftOwns
This "language" you speak of "in" the refreshed logos... does it happen to be Klingon?
Because the kindest words I could think of about these exercises are: rudimentary - all of them, and aggressive - just the xbox.
@Sheppard
I like it. this is kinda big news
@Sheppard
I dunno, I thought the xbox one was cool, but the rest of the new logos are junk.
@MicrosoftOwns
I work as a graphic designer. It is an ugly logo.
@Sheppard

@Sheppard I actually liked these designs alot. :)
@mikmik111
No Zune?
WTF Microsoft you forgot your own brand!
@joshl I know right? I was wondering what happened to Zune.
@Jean

@Sheppard the xbox is just not good. the rest are ok.
@Sheppard
As a graphic designer myself, one thing I can tell you is that design is subjective.
What one person loves, another will hate, and the vast majority of people have very bad taste.
The other thing people hate is change... people are very dull like that.
@chaosdisorder Exactly! ...and to further this thought... These logos are representing valuable brands to the public. If they aren't appealing the products might not be either. People really do buy with their eyes.
Seems that MS was smart enough to realize that these concepts didn't work.
@Sheppard *sniff sniff* Smell that? That's desperation.
@Revolutionary A two year old can bite in an apple!
@Thijs
