@liftedngifted1 It's king of weird this front facing camera thing. The European version of the galaxy S has one and not the American versions!? I really can't understand why...
@BrandonHarris the "facts", troll, is that no one would hold the thing pinching in opposite corners like that. but your iPhoney will go down in history as the most stupidly designed mainstream consumer electronics item ever released.
I originally didn't like the body of the Captivate, but after seeing them side by side, it looks a little better. Those are sleek phones. I can't wait til the EPIC! The Epic will replace my previous Bat-phone.... the Palm Pre :o
Also, this perversion of Android needs to stop. There should not be "exclusive apps". Stop the BS. The only exclusive apps carriers should have is the "check my account" that connects to their own customer database, that's it.
@ebloomca I got the captivate at launch and after using it a few days I have to say it's way better than a 7/10. This whole review seemed rushed and they didn't do their homework. I only use about half my battery despite a lot of daily use and you can get rid of touchwiz if you don't like it with another launcher. Also the app screen can be changed to alphabetical list. Why didn't the iphone get points off for being on AT&T?
Whenever an iPhone user says "but it doesn't happen to me when I hold it" some Fandroid comes along and says "But the difference with the iPhone is that you can make it happen with just 1 finger!"
Also got the Captivate on the day it came out, two days before the official launch(something engadget ignored) and I can say it's a really nice phone. For those who are on the border because of the lack of sideloading, look up "AndroidCentral Sideload Wonder Machine" and it will solve your problem.
It's been so since forever. Even the older Nokias have had their front cam removed when sold in the US.
Part of the reason could be that none of the US carriers support 3G/UMTS video calling, but that's still a stupid reason not to leave the front cam since it could be still used with an app like Skype...
@beckhams777 I would say I have to agree and I am also coming from a Nexus One (still have it and don't see myself ever getting rid of it) I think what will make or break these phones is when they get 2.2 and the rumor is the korean galaxy s is confirmed to get it "early August!" Come on AT&T don't spend a year letting us in on that sweet froyo action just because the iPhone is having huge problems. This phone already bests it in every spec except the display and I'll go for a better SAMOLED screen than a small "retina display"
@Apple Google Microsoft Couldn't you just order one of these two phones. I could be wrong, but isn't that what a bunch of people over the pond did with the Nexus One? I guess that would mean paying full price and losing features like a front facing camera though. Still the screen once you see it will change your mind and you won't care what the phone looks like (or is trying to look like for that matter)
@BrandonHarris Did you happen to watch the video again and see that phone in is not one of these two phones? Don't have to hate cause your precious iPhone is getting bested.
Step 1: Grab your precious iPhone. Step 2: Look at where you hold it. Step 3: Notice that you are not "pinching the bottom left corner of the phone but rather covering the bottom side. Step 4: Realize that this indeed is a lot different than what the iPhone is going through Step 5: Watch your "1 Finger Attenuation" (what ever attenuation is?) and see that that phone is indeed one of the other Galaxy S variants that was not reviewed on this site (at least in this article) Step 6: Realize that the iPhone is not the only phone on the block. and finally, Step 7: Don't put up a video trying to "troll" another phone by saying "this phone sucks because it has an antenna problem" when in fact your precious phone is the one that is not being recommended by big companies like consumer reports. Does Dominoes make an advertisement by saying "hey our pizza sucks, but so does [insert other company] so buy ours instead"
@Endadget Ok thanks. I begin to understand why the front facing camera seems like something really new in the US. Even if the video calling option never really worked in Europe, it's true that it's not a new feature here.
@BrandonHarris Interesting aspect of that though-- even when my captivate has signal attenuation when I hold it, it doesn't drop calls or lose the data connection at all.
Galaxy S is hands down best superphone money can buy, let alone best Android phone. In pictures it looked like an iPhone KIRF, but when I saw and held it in person, good god. One word: AMOLED. See it for yourself. It's almost surreal. The Vibrant is also lightest of latest gen superphones at 117g, again thanks to AMOLED, not to mention it sips battery unlike an LCD. It feels like your old smartphone when the battery's not in. I dumped my launchday Pre and girlfriend dumped her iPhone 3GS and we both got Vibrants at Costco for 99 bucks. The homescreen widgets are awesome,exchange sync is flawless for work email, and wait till you see Avatar on this screen, bricks will be shat. Best phone I've ever owned and it's exceeded all expectations. 4" screen is perfect happy medium, since it's bigger than iPhone but smaller than Evo which is gigantor. Swype typing is awesome, 720p video capture looks pro, Ocean Waves live wallpaper is mesmerizing. My non-techie girlfriend LOVES hers as well. You can't go wrong, plus Android has the momentum now and this phone demonstrates why.
one more thing, I thought Tmo's 3g data speeds would be crap but was pleasantly surprised. I got speedtest app, and first run was 3933kbps down and 1378kbps up. Faster than my el cheapo cable modem. HSDPA, ftw!
HP has had plenty of time to fine-tune its finger-friendly TouchSmart software, and now, its newest model, the TouchSmart 610, ushers in a fresh design, highlighted by a hinge that allows the display to slide down and lie nearly flat.

@ebloomca
In England you can only get the iPhone looking one, and that is all that's putting me off getting it, wish we could get the other one over here :(

What??
Whenever an iPhone user says "but it doesn't happen to me when I hold it" some Fandroid comes along and says "But the difference with the iPhone is that you can make it happen with just 1 finger!"
Am I missing something here?
@yankdez
"Did engadget just say that they prefer the vibrant over the iphone?!"
You must be new here. Re-read the quote. They prefer the Vibrant over the Captivate NOT the God-phone.
BTW ENGADGET! Now that we know Apple's answer the the antenna problem, are you going to revisit that sweetheart iPhone 4 review???
Also got the Captivate on the day it came out, two days before the official launch(something engadget ignored) and I can say it's a really nice phone. For those who are on the border because of the lack of sideloading, look up "AndroidCentral Sideload Wonder Machine" and it will solve your problem.
Screen's pretty tough too. Dropped it on some rocks while taking a picture and cracked the screen in a couple places but it works perfectly fine.

Vibrate!!!!!!!!!!
PS - I love that "puzzle" Lock screen.... Now release either phones with Epic's qwerty and front cam, and you'll have my money.
@ebloomca Fascinating vibrator epically captivates!
@Alucardfr

@BrandonHarris Yeah you are.
Step 1: Grab your precious iPhone.
Step 2: Look at where you hold it.

Does Dominoes make an advertisement by saying "hey our pizza sucks, but so does [insert other company] so buy ours instead"
@Itami I agree the phone is great, but dropping it on a rock and breaking the screen makes it the opposite of "really tough."
@Endadget
Ok thanks. I begin to understand why the front facing camera seems like something really new in the US. Even if the video calling option never really worked in Europe, it's true that it's not a new feature here.
@angermeans
I dropped it on angled rocks which caused the cracks. Only the glass was damaged and left me with a functioning phone
@deliteguy
Here, here...I love my Vibrant too! Long time, even...
@kwonyu80 Fascinating Vibrator? LOL jk
@Alucardfr The Epic 4G will have one
@ebloomca can I get an epic 4g with Sense ui an iPhone 4 looks please?
@yankdez
No, just a poor transition. They went back to comparing Captivate and Vibrant, and said they preferred the Vibrant.
@ebloomca 10/10 MY NEXT PHONEEE!!
Yes it is slower why? because it has a full GPU chip. Play a movie and see the difference!!!
@BrandonHarris Interesting aspect of that though-- even when my captivate has signal attenuation when I hold it, it doesn't drop calls or lose the data connection at all.
@Why should I have all the fun I'd sell my Droid Incredible in a heartbeat for a Fascinate.
@OnFive all non apple products review from engdaget can be ignored.

and one MORE thing: picked up a 32gb microSDHC card at Verizon and popped it in the Vibrant. 48gb, baby. Suck it, iPhone!
@Mister Warmth
Why didn't you pick me up one? I woulda given you da cash, super cereal !
@liftedngifted1 And keyboard.
@OnFive All iPhone users are use to AT&T but AT&T don't do much to the iPhone they leave it a's apple makes it.
