Apple delays white iPhone a second time, won't ship until 'later this year'

Man, there's about a zero percent chance that Steve Jobs and company are happy about this. Just days after shocking the market with higher-than-expected profits and revenues, Apple is having to grit its teeth once more with yet another iPhone 4 problem. This time, the elusive white iPhone -- yeah, that one that we toyed with at the WWDC announcement keynote -- is being delayed again. The new due date? Sometime "later this year." Here's the full, and unsurprisingly brief, announcement:

"Statement by Apple on White iPhone 4

White models of Apple's new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected."

That's unbelievable! They've done that color before on notebooks, ipods, and ipads. If they had said they will be releasing Tangerine, fuscia or psychedelic, i might be more understanding.

The white front kills it for me anyways. If it was going to be a black front and white back then I'd consider it. Black iP4 FTW. U guys can wait all u want for the iToyPhone 4 when it comes. And also who gives a flip about it coming for T-Mobile anyways? Their coverage is weaker than AT&T and you can't do 3G and voice at the same time

For some reason I suspect that "later this year" means after the deadline date of when Apple will stop giving out free cases. Business wise, waaaay too much revenue lost in free bumpers and cases, why add more to your debt by releasing another iPhone 4 (white version), that everybody wants, just to give out more free cases/bumpers. Apple need to be whooped.

Okay, so Apple can't make a white iPhone 4 the same way they cant properly test a phone. I do get that, but why do they keep saying its not affecting the more popular black iPhone's as if im suddenly gonna change my mind on the color I would want based on what they tell me is popular? WOW!! I was all excited to get this phone in white. It was delayed so I was like ok I can hold out. Then I start hearing about the antenna issues and I disregard how bad it could be seeing it is an issue but people are blowing it out of the water. Now after a press conference where Steve stated it WOULD be coming out the end of this month I was excited. Then they delay it again i'm done waiting for this phone the more I thought about it I was like why keep waiting for a phone that has known issues and apple is just providing free cases to fix it woo hoo. Android here I come!

I saw an article a week or two back detailing why the white iPhone is so hard to manufacture at this point. It has to do with the new process for making the front and back, and the tempering process before and after the white paint is applied, as well as how thick the layer of paint should be, because it's currently not matching the dock as well as Apple would like it to. (There's an "Apple White" that it has to match to??) I'll try and find the link

You know, I'd like to join the show of sniping at Apple (one of my favorite pastimes) but it's ridiculous to claim that this is somehow hurting Apple not to release the white iPhone right now. By releasing it in 2 months or so with the antenna problem solved and with the usual Apple media hysteria (The special WhiteSuit body employs a special color that absorbs 50% less sunlight than the black version!) and Apple will make every casual trendster forget all about the iPhone 4 antenna fiasco

I swear apple is freaking smart at marketing!!! Jobs is a genuis..."just blame the problem on something else to delay the white iphone" so later this yr when android, plam and even micrsoft drops there new software with newer phones. Apple can still have people believing there MAGICAL. It's dumb to drop the white iphone now when jobs is defending his product by putting other companies in his bs... So while 'antennagate" will be over by then iphone will still have great market share...i think apple is just a GENUIS company
