AT&T readies new calling plans for July 25, nothing changing at the core
Well, well -- what have we here? It looks as if AT&T is fixing to rebundle its wireless plans starting on July 25th, obviously with intent to push those newly created data packs onto folks who may otherwise be inclined to pass right over. Furthermore, these new plans encourage users to select unlimited messaging, which -- as everyone and their third cousin knows -- is highway robbery. But then again, it's not like you're about to kick your texting habit, so you might as well pony up. So far as we can tell, the actual value propositions aren't changing (for example, a single user Nation Plan with 450 minutes, unlimited messaging and a 2GB Data Pro plan will cost you $84.99 either way), but it's clear that AT&T's aiming to narrow its offerings. The only real question revolves around the packages that include "pay-per-use" messaging -- will the carrier let users add smaller messaging plans, or just force us all to go unlimited or PPU? The 25th is right around the corner, so we ought to know for certain soon enough.
Update: We've scooped the family plans as well. We've also confirmed that nothing at all should be changing (you can still add select messaging plans to PPU options) in terms of pricing -- it's mostly just reshuffling the furniture, if you know what we mean.

By the way I have a 1400 Family Plan using only 5 A-List numbers, 4 adults. 2 PDAs with grandfathered unlimited data plans, and one with the 200mb data plan, 3 phones with 200 text and over 5000 minutes in Rollover. I have no land line and we use only cell phones. This works out to $47.49 per person. My bill is the same every month and I never have to worry how I call or how many minutes I have. Peace of mind is priceless.
huh? thats not new.. i work with AT&T... an those plans were made ever since AT&T changed from the $30 unlimited data plan to the $15 with 200MB and $25 for 2GB.
I called AT&T a couple hours ago to check on my ETF as I'm planning on goin to sprint for either the evo or epic so I can get rid of my 3g and the rep was tring to sell me on these new data plans and she said they were getting the EVO in a month. I repeateldly questioned her thinkin she was refering to the galaxy s or something and she repeated it multiple times. I still wouldn't stay with AT&T but we'll see.
Can someone tell me what's different than what AT&T current prices are. The only thing different is the way the brochure looks and the lettering and font. I see no changes in pricing whatsoever.
WHAT THE FUCK?!
$20 for messaging!
AT&T fail...
No prob.
Lol why is everyone comparing AT&T with T-Mobile/Sprint? They should only be comparing it to VZW cause they have the closest as far as coverage and tower maintenance to each other. Of course sprint and tmo are cheaper. Less coverage = less cost which = lower plans. Simple as that.
@hekidnappedher
Doesn't work like that. More coverage = more subscribers = similar costs
I'm confused .. none of our plans have changed since June 6th.. where's Engadget at on this one? The iPhone 4 brochure has looked like this for months ..
- retail sales consultant
this info has been out for about a month ,
these are the exact same plans that have been out since the new data plans. What the beg deal. They just changed what the brochures look like. They have the same content.
NEWS FLASH: AT&T IS CHANGING THE WAY THEIR LITTLE PAPER BROCHURE LOOKS!!! STAY TUNED!!!
2gigs a month are they drunk? Thank the maker T-Mobile and sprint still offer unlimited data plans
Hate to burst your exclusive earth shattering breaking news bubble here, but the brochures you have posted pictures of are no different than the ones that have been in stores from about 2 weeks after the big data rate plan change began. The only change is they redesigned the graphics to better fit in with the new "Rethink Possible" theme. How would I know? I work in a store of course. FAIL.
I had verizon for 4 years then switched to Cingular now AT&T. IPhone 3GS was my 1st smartphone and now I have an iPhone 4. I have not had any issues (except at my job) with reception. Also I could make my phone drop a couple if signals with the death grip but never did it slow down data or drop a call. I really think most of the critics don't even own an iPhone 4. It's as simple as this, if u don't want the phone then Don't buy it. What's so hard about that??? Complain with your wallet not with a blog post. And by the way it's selling, my guess is not too many people are bothered. I don't care how apple spins the issue, the phone is selling like hotcakes. No opinion can refute that
Well, I pay 19€ per month for 2000 minutes, 1000SMS and 1 Gig. To be fair I would have to pay 49€, if I wanted to make 200min calls in the whole EU. Technically that would still be Roaming on other networks.
What exactly went wrong with the American market?
Has anybody noticed in one of the photo of all the data plans shows for 30$ you get unlimited data and quick messaging or you can go with unlimited data for 15$...does this also apply for iPhone users??
Nevermind...didn't read the left side of the brochure. It's for tethering! :(
@Engadget
No, I don't know what you mean? So, absolutely nothing changed but yet, you turned it into a story?
Nothing is changing... These "NEW" brochures are exactly the same as the last brochures as far as the packaging and pricing. AT&T just decided to change the look.
WOW, these plans truly SUCK.
450 minutes isn't that bad (coming from a person who barely talks on the phone), but a 2GB data-cap is HORRIBLE, as we already knew. Im already over that on my Nexus One on T-Mobile, and thats pretty much from tethering my phone to my laptop, which i'll mention is free :).
If this is being done because of the heavy data usage iPhones create on the network, then i'll be glad to NOT have the iPhone on T-Mobile as its rumored.
Expect Verizon to soon follow AT&Ts lead since they always bite off of each other. AT&T YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!
"AT&T is a big Looter"
1. If I have to download a High Def movie or few tv shows on the go using 3G network, I will exceed the 2GB data plan with a blink of an eye. Smart phones using applications primarily market their devices saying you can watch, buy, download anything on the go. How is this justified here? Does it mean that a 2GB movie downloaded would cost me 25dollars? Their extension offer is 10 dollars for 1GB used. If I download two movies each of 2GB then it would cost 45 dollars. Does it make any freaking sense? This is without using Maps, or any other application.
2. At&T claims that 98% of the people using their 3G network do not exceed 2GB data per month. If people are not exceeding 2GB, then why did they remove unlimited plan. What difference does it make for them if people are not exceeding? Such a pathetic liars. AT&T CEO might have asked his team: what is a good number between 90 and 100 to convince people. The answers go: 95, 96 ,91, 98. Stop there, I like 98. Lets pin on 98% so that people would believe.
The primary purpose of making and getting phone calls is not served by AT&T but they come with idiotic plans. I am loyal apple fan, but I am unable to buy an iphone 4 because I do not get network in my office. Verizon and Sprint comes with more than 3 bars. AT&T store is there in the same complex as my office but there is no network.
Such a pathetic losers.
I can't believe they used the word PRO next to the 2gb cap I guess you do have to be a pro not to go over it.
AT&T sucks , I took it coz of iPhone as soon as iPhone switches to T-mobile I will also switch.
I'll stick with my current ATT plan on my iPhone.
Unlimited 3G
Unlimited text
Plenty of shared minutes with rollover
Unlimited nights/weekends and mobile
$50 a month after taxes.
Hey I hope I didn't miss this while reading these comments, but right now i have a rugby 2 phone with just a 5$message plan. the only email option i saw on the phone data wise was att mobile mail, which was free for 30 days, then i had to pay, so i shut off the datae. since when do you have to pay to get email? to the point, if i picked up the 200mb data plan and texting, do I now get free email usage?
ATT always will have one agenda; screw costume.
With their constant overcharges/errors, dropped calls, poor customer service, I would not switch if I was offered at half Of Sprint or tmobil rate!
How is this news? I walked into my local ATT store last week and they gave me this pamphlet.
All they're Doing is simplifying things by making packets. You can still add on stuff like "200 texts" to the PPU packet
im no longer a att customer as of the 25th.... just one problem after another. with my email.... they always say get a new phone and a new two year deal.... to make it right... .... they never do anything for the customers the have only new customers..... im going back to sprint at lest i know i will get bad customer service.... i will know what the price will always be...
I have had straight talk service for a couple of months now. Im not saying its the best service but I haven't had any issues with it yet and its unlimited everything plus web.
straight talk service unlimited everything for 45 dollars a month.
