Attractive, non-existent woman on internet easily makes inroads in military, intel, and hacker circles

Thomas Ryan of Provide Security's making it public knowledge that social networking sites aren't just annoying: they're also potentially major security threats. Ryan set up a fake Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter account for "Robin Sage," a person who doesn't exist and never has -- but we can assure you she's really, really hot. Robin billed herself as a graduate of MIT and a prestigious New Hampshire prep school, and quickly made hundreds of connections across all three sites, without ever offering any proof of her existence or the connections she espoused. Even more stunning, "Robin" was befriending military, government and intel people on Facebook and Linked In (where she dubbed herself a "hacker"), and hackers on Twitter. Ryan's findings state that the military and intel "friends" Robin made freely share information and documents with her, as well as inviting her to various conferences. Interestingly, it turns out the only group that was in anyway resistant to Robin were the MIT-associated people... but we knew they were all whip-smart already. Moral? Next time you accept the request of a beautiful, intelligent hacker who wants to come over and view your secret dossiers, you should probably think twice.

@Superchip
I know it's tough, but I try to find the positive and usefulness in it all... get's really difficult sometimes. This isn't to say that you aren't right about someone trying to get his name out there.
As a DoD IT worker what annoys the h3ll out of me the most is that there was a ban on social networking sites on all DoD systems up until just recently. All of that training we had involving network/resource security and the decision-makers toss it aside to allow social networking and Youtube.

RE: Mata Hari, etc.....
Guess what people, you don't have to share your secret dossiers with Internet pr0n. Find a freaking outlet!
@cdubc2012
It's called videobox. Keep it in your pants, gentlemen. That, or rub one out before going in to work. Helps keep the urge down.
Is this story actually for real!?
@Eli Haj
because it's what some people call literature?
the only thing terrorists trying to friend me on facebook will learn is that I'm 9 feet tall and only hang around models
@pple is poo
If you were a car I'd have you scrapped; say ... do you want to take a ride in my car?
Who recommended her?
This really upsets me, the Chinese have made cyber war it's number one priority and we're allowing our NMCI computers to surf YouTube and Facebook!
It's no wonder the government is on the hunt for talented "hackers", we're miles behind countries like China and Russia. Sites like Facebook pose too much of a problem for DOD personnel like myself, I believe if your assigned in sensitive positions inside the military or other government agencies your privacy should be zero! "You have a social network acct? Yeah, we're all up in it and reading everything your talking about!".
Stupid news ever.
it is has been done thousand of times before, for example most of the WOW elves chicks are guys and everybody (but novice) know that.
I call BS on the results of the experiment. Although sometimes frowned upon, sharing "personal information and photos" is allowed for those involved in the security and intelligence industries. I'm betting that the the conferences "she" was invited to were unclassified. Invitations to apply for a job are nothing, those are given out like advice. She would still have to actually apply.
She *was* allowed to review documents, and that sounds like it could be a security breach. Still, after reading this article and some others, I doubt that she obtained any actually useful information that wasn't already public.
The internet - where women are men, men are boys, and children are FBI agents.
Men are pathetic, as usual... willing to believe anything on the off chance an attractive girl actually shares any vague interest in nerdy pursuits. What's worse is that men seem to be perfectly ok with the fact that women have complete control over them. (i am male as well)
