@liftedngifted1 Blue what? The fruit company products are way too revolutionary to have such an inferior tech inside... .o) Besides it would only drive up the prices which would prevent all the good folks out there from adopting such a wonderful, revolutionary pricey product!
I really don't think the latest iMacs are overpriced. Apple more than cut the price in half with the latest upgrade (to get the same 3.06GHz CPU before, you had to pay rougly $2400 instead of today's $1199). That will also get you a better screen, wireless peripherals, all-aluminum build etc.
Of course, it's not gonna be cheaper than building a PC yourself, but that was never the point. The point is that it's a great, sexy computer with a great screen that just works, without taking up any space. Other than a great screen, those aren't things you'll find on another desktop computer.
All i know is that if Apple wants to charge a premium price for their devices they would want to provide a premium device.
It's ridiculous that Macs still don't have blu-ray because Apple are too concerned about profit margins. If other manufactures can put blu-ray into PCs half the price of this, then Apple have no excuse.
Your logic is flawed simply by the fact that the cost of technology falls over time. So that 3.06GHz CPU hasn't is worth less hence the lower price.
I don't think there is much denying mac's are overpriced especially if your in an industry that needs allot of power and don't want to break the bank on a mac pro. I'm not saying they are bad computers but I do look at the 13 inch macbook pro that I just got and then my sisters core i7 vaio with better ram, graphics, HDD and screen she got for the same price and I'm pretty sure she wins.
@ExplicitFunction yeah, normally you are right. But this time it's about competition. The bluray-format ain't from apple... let me make it easy to understand.
What is the bluray disc used for mostly? Except for PS3 games it is being used for Movies and Data Backup. That means:
iTunes movie rental vs Bluray movies Time capsule vs bluray discs (backup)
Apple doesnt make any money with any bluray disc which is sold, as they are doing with their own products and services.
But I, the customer , would like to use my Time capsule (since it works like a charm ) AND at the same time I would like to backup old stuff on bluray discs which I need once in a year or so.
The point is YOU don't get CHOICES because Apple is seeing a potential loss in PROFIT. Apple Inc.. once upon a time the underdog, managed to establish a big RANCH and milks and butchers their customers now. Big Money time !
The CEO claimed that it was a complex medium and they're waiting to implement it in the future. And?...
Doesn't change the fact that the Apple corporation is part of the Blu-Ray association and would be in their best interests towards shareholders to look after & promote the sector... Eventually...
@Almo I say look at zeuscanthearus comment and understand that your "evidence" is back from the time where every company had to decide whether Microsofts HDdvd or sony's blu ray.
Under those circumstances and options Apple had to choose Sony... surprise surprise... what do you say now?
TheRealCJ is correct, HD-DVD was not made by Microsoft, in fact they were pushing iHD, then supported HD-DVD made by Toshiba. You really are misinformed.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
I know one of the specs - it will be overpriced.
@savagemike Do I bet there just going to Add a blue-ray player and tell people that they revolutionized the way to watch movies on your desktop.
@liftedngifted1
nope. Apple stated no "revolution" (=BD-Drives) for now and thus no bluray in these iMacs

@savagemike
Did you figure that out all by yourself?
@liftedngifted1 No their going to invent their own iRay disc format. And let me tell you it will be MAGICAL.
@savagemike

Blue-Ray? All media should be purchased through Itunes, didn't you know?

@iHack13
There's a major flaw in your misinformed opinion... Apple are on the board of directors for the Blu-Ray Association....

Now what do you say??
@Almo
Try this on for size

Every company had to choose?
Really?
No not really. Plenty companies are left off that list. Apple supports Blu-Ray for a reason.
@iHack13
Yeah. Except that HD-DVD wasn't made by Microsoft.
