This one's been kicking around the interwebs for a few weeks now, but it has managed to grow into something of a beast during that period. Frankly, we couldn't think of
less fitting way to
send the glorious
Nexus One out than to completely deface it and ruin what Google has worked so hard to perfect. But regardless of what we think, that's exactly what has happened here. One rolle3k over at
xda developers clearly has a masochistic gene or two planted inside of his skull, but at least his APK doesn't require your N1 to be rooted before providing you access to a
TouchWiz user interface. Feel free to hit the source if you're up for seeing what you've been missing out on, but only if you literally cannot think of a single better thing to do with your time.
Hey, it's an iphone but with better reception :0
"Oh no I didnt!"
TouchWiz is literally the worst UI ever. One very big reason I won't buy another Samsung smartphone.
I just got a galaxy s from t-mobile and i think it does not help, but it don't hinder. Stupid idea to implement it when it has almost no benefits other then confusing people.
This thing is rooted. See the new Superuser app right there
@ongadget Well noticed. However root is not needed to change the UI.
That looks horrific.
I am disappointed with the carrier of nexus one.
I was expecting some revolutionary growth. Now while it last I enjoyed my nexus one I had.
Okay, so I'm an android user, and even I can recognise that certain idiots around here just decided to vote comments down because some people didnt agree with Darren Murph (the OP) that putting a different UI onto the N1 would hardly be a defacement.
The default Android UI is far from perfect. Anyone who says it is is blind. It keeps getting better, yes, but there is always room for improvement. Also, one of the posters up there who got voted down was absolutely right to ask the question "why are you slating TouchWiz now after giving the Galaxy S such a glowing review?".
Its not a defacement... At most its a matter of preference. Most other reviewers that I have seen have agreed that the TW UI adds to the functionality and usability of the device. You all need to get down off your high-horses and just appreciate that someone has taken the time to do this for the benefit of those who do want it.
Poor Nexus One.
I'd say TouchWiz is probably the worst UI out there (the older version that is). Every phone I have ever seen with it is slow/unresponsive/laggy. It just seems to cripple the feature phones it is put on. Not to mention those "widgets", which are really just shortcuts to the application on the phone and provide no functionality.
@Vince730
The new TouchWiz on the smartphones is very nice though. Realized that the N1 actually has the newer Galaxy S esque TW on it.
