Amimon demos prototype wireless 3D HD transmission system
Amimon -- remember those guys? The company responsible for transmitting 1080p video over a 5GHz band went (nearly) radio silent after making a few announcements at CES this year, but now it's hitting back with a new prototype system designed to support the bandwagon that James Cameron and company are driving forward. The new setup is capable of wirelessly transmitting 3D HD video using WHDI (5GHz), with the demo showing that 1080p 3D video could be beamed with a frame rate of 24fps without any major hiccups. For now, the system consists of a board for transmitting the signals and a board for receiving, with the both of 'em equipped with Amimon's digital baseband chip and RF transceiver. We're told that a shipping product is just a logo away, but we've no clue whether or not the first devices will be kits for outfitting existing televisions or new HDTVs with wireless 3D HD support baked right in.

Ugh-ok
They just want a slice of the cake!
@TheCake It's a lie!
/predictable
24 FPS :/
@MoonWalkerCTE
That + glasses = me not wanting it.
@MoonWalkerCTE
24FPS is industry standard for film, and digital media that producers what to look like film. Its the most natural looking frame rate (not 240mhz / 60 fps uncle Bobs handy cam look) but actual film look.
@MoonWalkerCTE
Considering blurays are sent to your tv in 1080p 24fps and it is the tv that does its '60htz-500htz' bullshit I don't see the difference.
3D will be the first time I'm left behind in technological "advancement"; albeit, I'm being left behind willingly, and I'm quoting the word "advancement" because I don't think it's particularly advancing anything, not yet, at least.
Maybe I'll join the bandwagon when it's actually worth it, maybe.
@Squalor
Exactly I will be waiting for the holographic TVs and skip 3D, thank you.
@Ceyran what about 4k?
@Scrubs
Human eyes can't even see in 4k so i'll pass on that one.
Bring us the holograms
damn, what movie is that, i think i missed it :(
@annoynimous Monsters Vs Aliens or vice versa.....
@annoynimous Monsters vs Aliens
What are they doing for people who already wear glasses? 3D so far has just been nothing but an annoyance for me since I have to put the 3D glasses on top of my existing ones that I need to see.
@Baconbits - "3D so far has just been nothing but an annoyance for me since I have to put the 3D glasses on top of my existing ones that I need to see."
Really? I have not had a problem. Every pair I have worn have shaped well enough not to actually bother me over my glasses.
I don't usually wear glasses except for driving and watching films, but even with both pairs on I soon forgot I was wearing them.
@Baconbits
The samsung ones work pretty well when put over glasses.
@FireMonkey
Disney 3D glasses
@Baconbits I've used Sony and Samsung glasses over my own glasses with no problem.
Unless your glasses are oversized (classic Drew Carey), you shouldn't have a problem.
Movie theaters, however, are another story.
Great, so the tiny percentage of people that can't stand an hdmi cable, out of the tiny percentage of people who go for 3D, will now have an expensive solution to their problems.
if wired 3d tv's suck, then wireless ones must really blow.
Whatever, just give me regular wireless HD already!
oh sammy its you, of course who else can do all this.
awesome! was just waiting for the tech !
Oh god, that is the demo playing at work all day long, on that very TV. I hate that movie / TV because I have to hear that move at least 5 times a day.
Wow thats pretty sad if they actually had to make an entirely new box to handle this. 3D is no more demanding than any other 1080p24/60/whateverformatyouwant. All the 3d conversion is done inside the tv and has nothing to do with the stream or source. You just signal over hdmi to enable 3d and tell the tv what 3d format its in, it handles the rest, its 2 simple bytes. So I guess they must have had chipset issues if their vendors couldnt support adding those 2 extra bytes.
3d doesn't interest me much
More Gimmicky 3D Rubbish... OH BOY!
the tv or screen alone looks amazing.
I got that same TV/3D Bluray player/3D glasses starter kit, this weekend. Not necessarily for the 3D (the TV is just that badass) but man is it really cool. On sale $2200.00! I cant wait for football season to start! =)
With a setup like that, it might as well be wired...
Is it me, or will this be made completely useless by the emerging 802.11ad? I guess maybe not - 802.11ad is line of sight from what I understand, but still - how many home theater applications require cross room transmission of 1080p? Talk about "niche"...
