Mac Mini suffers chromatic maltreatment at hands of Colorware
You didn't seriously think the Mac Mini would be spared, did you? The maniacal customizers over at Colorware have added Apple's latest bit of desktop furniture to their stable of "have it your way" electronics, with a $250 price tag for the paintjob by itself and a $1,000 levy if you want them to procure the hardware as well. Hey, we know that's expensive, but somebody's got to be buying all these crazy-hued gadgets for the company to keep going, right? Anyone willing to own up to it?

I like it.
@1
Likewise, much more interesting.
@1 i dont think apple had this in mind when they said they were the greenest computer manufactures in the world.... i mean sure that things sips power.... but really??? 0.0
@1 I like it too. But I wish ColorWare could somehow make it's methods... less costly.
Also, your name is trolly.
@1
It's a fugly shade of green, but if Colorware has the option of black (and I owned a Mac Mini), I would really enjoy an all-black Mac Mini. That way it would fade into the background of my entertainment center.
@1 I I DON'T GET IT!!
Apple had no problem releasing colorful iPods but can't get to releasing colorful iPhones, iPads and MACs?
I understand the black and white purity idea or Freemason stuff but common man! liven it up a bit! black n white black n white black n white black n white black n white black n white black n white
@Teslanaut Agreed. I find their pricing to be a bit...shady. Especially when you buy the gadget through them. For example if I was getting a new MacBook Pro, and I wanted the upgraded hard drive it would cost me $50 through Apple, but the same upgrade costs $100 through Colorware. How exactly does a different hard drive increase the cost to paint the outside?
@1
Meh. I'd rather buy a Dell Zino.
Better specs, lower price and better looks.
@ufinc
Build a Zino and a Mini with close to the same specs and the price difference is about $60. And the Zino is still plastic with a slower CPU.
@1
Why green? Does that mean it blends more efficiently?
Is it news whenever a new product is colored by Colorware?
I think its ugly. apple has chosen not to give coloured option for a reason
@JakeG895
Because everyone wants the same exact thing right?
And for that exact same reason I think in buying a Dell Zino...
You see, some people, like me, live with other people (my wife). So if I am already "wrecking" the living room with a computer better be the colour that she likes.
@James Clearly they do... http://digitaldaily.allthingsd.com/20100521/ipad-sold-out-at-many-apple-stores/
@JakeG895
apple also has chosen not to ship the iphone with a non-defective design for a reason
or no reason
@Radeon3
Just because it doesn't have the extra colour options does not mean your aren't going to buy it. Its just nice to have the option. I would of love more colour options than black or silver for my iPod, it's just too clinical.
Oh great...now apple is going political...
@Radeon3 Where have you been? Apple's done political things before.
@Radeon3 how is being environmentally friendly political?
@treefiddy I was kidding around, with the whole "go green" movement, they are literally 'going green' lol
Apple symbol looks out of place there. Needs a Radiation warning symbol...
@buoy
Apple has always emphasized color selection in the early iMacs, and, for example, recently in the iPods. There's nothing non-apple about this. This slime green will match the 500 dollar chair, and other "gay" stuff in apple rooms
Lamborghini green.....good choice....
@sakz
First thing I thought of when i saw it was Boxee.
Why is there always these articles about colourware. They put funky colours on otherwise sedately coloured gatgets.
I get it, but I don't need the constant reminder.
I thought the point of the Mac Mini was to be cheap.
Now, $700 is still ridiculous on its own, but still
I guess we can call that a Granny Smith
Now you just need to stack a Boxee Box on top of it and it'll be a reflection with a disc slot.
someone must have some friends over at colorware.
I'd like to see this in Black
@Sk8erMikez
That's what she said.
Granny APPLE colored. :)
This will not do.
One willing to buy a $699 Apple Mac Mini to sit prominently next to their 40" flat panel wants visitors to glance and see unibody aluminum - the color of taste, not lime green - the color of Dell Zino.
@choupique
Aluminium isn't a colour...
Is it not just a green paint job on the same aluminium shell?
@choupique Aluminium body with COLOUR. :] I take that over plain jane anyday.
@choupique Color of taste? I say, plain aluminum is playing it safe!
@choupique
lol colourware doesnt only offer green *facepalm*
this is annoying. engadget's always talking about how lame they think colorware is, but every time they announce something new for whatever bullshit product, it gets front page treatment
EVERY
SINGLE
TIME
@sinai You read the article. You posted. Engadget wins. AOL wins. Sponsors win.
They look amazing. Good quality indeed. Shame they do not allow 'Send In's to the United Kingdom though.
Why is it that every time Colorware decides to "paint" some new gadget it makes it to all the tech blogs? Why do we give them that much credit? We get it, they can change the color your favorite gadget (for an extremely hefty fee). Enough is enough.
I'm a perfectly hetero dude and I would love to get my new Mac mini painted with rainbow colors or the face of Justin Bieber.
"The maniacal customizers over at Colorware"
I could just hear the evil cackle in a deserted factory somewhere.
...and if you blend it, *TADA!* you've made vomit.
I might put mine in my kitchen. So, I want stainless steel with a granite top, thank you, please.
COLORWARE IS NOT NEWS. STOP IT. I mean seriously, can't we just assume that at some point you'll be able to get your [insert device here] skinned? Does Engadget really need to update everyone every time it happens?
I wouldn't mind owning a Mac mini, but the standard ones would need to be about half their current price, and to color ones around one third their current price.
Engadget please. Stop giving this ridiculous company more press. I never click on these articles because I refuse to give you page views for this shit, but this is ridiculous. This is worse then 24/7 Apple news. Please, cut the shit.
@kenny goo yet you still click on the article and waste the time out of your day to comment. You think with how ridiculous it is, you'd move on. Pass. Just forget about it...
"This is worse THAN*** 24/7 Apple news."
Let's learn to use proper English.
BTW I like the color. Something different. Then again, I'm not one to 'be like everyone else.'
