Apple iOS 4.1 beta 2 now available for developers
Developers, developers, developers: Apple is now seeding the second iteration of the iOS 4.1 beta your way. It's been just shy of two weeks since beta 1 hit the scene, which is about on par with the pace of revisions for previous beta releases. We haven't had a chance yet to dive in and see what changes are afoot, but we're downloading now and will be sure to let you know if we notice anything.

DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS !!!!!!!
Oh damn, you already beat us to it *shakes fist*!
@Psyclotr0n
Wow, really surprised this is not a "breaking" news story. :P
@a dumb cat
So this the update that enables voice calls?
:p
@Apple Google Microsoft
Oh man. That's just... oh man.
@Apple Google Microsoft
Ive been calling on 4.0 and 4.0.1 just fine. Really, iPhones make calls just fine so long as your fingers are off the magic spot, and its not like a software update can fix that.
@a dumb cat
i was wondering the same, but i think Niley mainly likes Having the Breaking News Tag, i like them too they get you excited when you show up to Engadget
@Psyclotr0n
I was thinking on downgrading to iOS3 again as iOS4 f-ed up my iPod Touch 2G battery life and performance, without actually adding any functionality besides folders.... however, Can i install this 4.1 beta on my iPod as a non-developer? Or does Apple just want me to feel like I now suddenly own a legacy device which feels like complete crap compared to anything else in their "new" line-up?
@musback iPod Touch 2G isn't a legacy device, its still receiving firmware updates.
@musback
You can. It's a violation of their NDAs and whatnot for the devs, but if you can find the IPSW of the beta, you can do it.
It should be easy now, since it doesn't require a new version of iTunes, unlike the 4.0 GM.
@musback Did you try restoring your iPod, when the problems started? That might solve your issue.
@musback
Try turning off spotlight indexing. I've heard that helps.
@musback Buy a new one and stop complaining.
@Firewave
strangely on 4.0 for my iphone 4 i had no problems with the death grip at all and even when i tried to replicate the problem i couldnt. however since the update that was supposed to be some sort of fix for the problem i have started seeing signal drop to around 3bars with the death grip sometimes but i can still call fine and use 3g and what not without problems. i now have a bumper but it wasnt to fix any problems
@uwish2804 Same thing happened to me
@musback
I am having the same problems with my iPod touch 2G, it is constantly crashing, the Bluetooth wont disable half the time and my wi-fi disconnects randomly and it takes forever to connect! It makes me so mad I want to throw the thing across the room!
@bernardino
It is said that iOS 4.1 Beta 2 fixes iPhone 4 proximity sensor? really? But, So far the only difference I have found is that the MMS bug has been fixed..still looking through stuff..
Maybe I can prepare some needed APPS from aneesoft when waiting for fixes my iphone. LOL.
@Firewave "iPhones make calls just fine so long as your fingers are off the magic spot"
*facepalm*
@uwish2804
read the article on Anandtech about the difference in calculating the signal strength between 4.0 and 4.01. It's more accurate now (4.01) even if that means you'll see fewer bars in your location. In the past (iOS 3.0 & 4.0) they were showing more bars than you really had in your area - probably a request from AT&T to give the impression that the coverage is more solid than it really is.
@BogdanGC
Originally Apple was "accidentally" calculating and displaying signal strength on a logarithmic scale, displaying better coverage than you actually had.
I'm hoping the proximity sensor fix is included.
@Squalor
Yeah, me to. That does get annoying.
I hope Engadget gives us a list of the changes in 4.1
@Squalor
Hmm, what's wrong with the proximity sensor? Haven't noticed anything wrong with it on the iPhone 4? Or am I missing something?
@Squalor all the replies are really concerned with proximity sensor, ive had problems there, but my email problems far outweigh anything with proximity, i really hope there are bug fixes all around...even my battery gives me trouble...tsk tsk apple
@Almo
I also though nothing was wrong. But every once in a while, you put the call on hold, activate the speakerphone(most annoying one).
@OriginalJosh
E-mail problems? Is that where it checks for new e-mail, says there isn't any then immediately after a 1 second lag re-updates everything, download bar goes from 0 to full quickly and ping noise? Been thinking that's just me, is it?
@Almo It ativates the screen sometimes even thought your ear is there making you put ppl on hold or hang up on accident. Has happened to me on more than a few ocasions
@Almo there was an old problem where it would download the email, then delete it right away, then redownload right after and ping again....this new problem im having is where it hangs at "checking for mail" or it checks says downloading, and freezes, eventually crashes, then you start it up and its blank, crashes again, then you start it up and the whole thing repeats, it also drains the battery severely the whole time
apple IPSW Ihate. I'm GLAD I SWICHED TO PALM PRē
@hotdogg I LIKE MY PRE, BUT IT'S REALLY NOT WORTH YELLING ABOUT
@Cam
I DONT KNOW, I LIKE TO EXERCISE MY VOCAL CHORDS
@Psyclotr0n Sorry. That wasent yelling....... If I put ! Then yea. But I had a iphone 3GS but I lost it then I went to the pre
@hotdogg it's ANNOYING.
@hotdogg
WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!
@tunmutaer
LOUD NOISES!!!!1!1!1one
@a dumb cat
LOUD NOISES!!!1!one1!!11!eleven!!1
@Cam
There is a point where yelling might becPAAAAAAAAAAAAANCAAAAAAAKEES!
@bureX
hmmm, pancakes
Hopefully it makes the 3G operable again.
@Maxipad
Seriously, I'm dying here. It's barely functional sometimes.
maybe it will magically change the iphone to CDMA ?
@galbingito That would be awesome.
@galbingito like the Terminator T 1000!
@Maxipad
Actually no It would not... There is nothing great about CDMA. Was great 5 years ago but now...
@Oskin that way i wrote this because the latest updates and upgrades from apple have been a step back ... like the proximity sensor,antenna,no white iphone yet and more maybe next year they will make it clear remove the antenna and call it the i
They make the bar even bigger this time. 1 bar = the same size of the other phone 4 bar.
@cdf74dc9 Thanks to Apples "bar testing" I found out about my HD2's hidden signal mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86Bk3Qz0XOA
:)
@cdf74dc9 They just wanted to copy Android.
@loocas
Oh God, I can't thumb that up enough! No that we have Froyo on the HD2, it clearly is the winner out of all these phones!
