ChouChou Electric Butterfly flutters to life inside a jar
Most robot pets may not be easily mistaken for the real thing, but that's not likely to be the case with the ChouChou Electric Butterfly, which might even have a few people reaching to free it from its jar. Unfortunately, it's the jar that keeps the butterfly "alive" -- it has some AA batteries in its lid that apparently allow the butterfly to respond to vibrations and flutter about. That may not sound like much, but the effect is pretty striking -- see for yourself after the break. Of course, just because it's simple doesn't mean its cheap. You'll have to shell out a hefty $76 to bring this one home.

Its not powered by batteries in the lid. I think its powered by Lord Vader manipulating the force...at $76 a pop, he'll have enough to start constructing the 3rd Death Star
Imagine what could be done for spy operatives with this thing. Add a gps, a high res cam, and some satellite technology.
I'm paranoid already.
I'm sick and tired of people saying that its copying the iphone, blackberries have ALWAYS had this menu layout, far before the iphone was ever created. So by updating icons they are now copying the iphone?
And boring? whats boring about it? because it doesn't have floating useless widgets?
Maybe its just me but my phone is a PHONE first, and blackberry has created the best PHONES by far. I have never had a problem hearing people, messages not being sent, or dropping calls. They are far more reliable, convenient and quick to use than any other phone. I have all the apps that i need on my phone which is, poynt, facebook, twitter and google maps. aside from that i couldn't care less about the thousands of useless apps and games i will never play.
Yes i've owned an iphone and that game were cool and all but i never used them, the only time i have time to play games or bullshit is when im home, and for that i have a computer.
@alex5857
well i'm an idiot, wrong topic
Decker: Is that a real butterfly?
Rachel: Of course not. It's artificial.
Decker: It must be expensive.
Rachel: Very.
@ly000001 I doff my hat to you sir.
This would be more elegant if it was solar powered.
@coolmantv
animals move just fine on their own without your creepy "support"
I'm not sure if I'm watching the video right but what is that clear string attached to the lid? Its kinda cool. But for that kind of money I would rather pick up a forty of Vodka.
@engadget fanboy
Looks like it was a demo unit and that string was to keep people from taking it. My guess anyway.
pass. The thought is promising. The execution could've been a bit more better still.
The butterfly takes too long to respond to the tapping. He practically had to hammer the jar in order for it to give a crap.
Still smart idea I guess.
it was fine until i saw the string at the bottom.
I dream of electric butterflies.
