Interpad's 10-inch Tegra 2-toting Android tablet may make Germans merry later this year
We've seen a number of promising Tegra 2 Android tablets at this point, but precious few solid release dates, so forgive us if we're jumping for joy to hear even an unheard-of German challenger is slated to arrive this holiday season. Should you believe the company's website, December will see the launch of E-Noa's Interpad, a 10-inch capacitive multitouch Android 2.1 device with a laundry list of desirable features. €399 (about $518) may seem a bit steep for an Android device, but it buys you a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 T20 chip in a package only a half-inch thin, plus 1GB of DDR2 RAM and 16GB of flash storage (expandable via microSD) to put your PlayStation ROMs in. Connectivity includes 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0 and HDMI out, and it's all powered by a 3900mAh battery reportedly good for 8-12 hours. If you're willing to drop a little extra, MobiFlip reports that Android 2.2, GPS, camera and 3G modules will appear in an upgraded version for under €500 ($649), but we don't want to get you too excited before we can verify the potency of the original, eh? We're hoping to see it in person at September's IFA in Berlin.

Later this year. Sure. CES, Q2, Summer, Q3, Q4, "later this year." :rolleyes:
And how exactly is Chrome OS going to fit into this market/segment??? I think Android pretty much has this covered.
@jhs You mean Gingerbread. The current Android for pad/tablet is a hack.
@jhs Also Chrome OS is web-based OS, and the web is essentially what I will need a tablet for, not the phone features.
it´s only rebranding Malata A1001 tablet:)

Steve Cheer up,
Sent from my Interpad.
OMG OMG OMG OMG !!! IT IS FINALLY HERE!!
I wonder which company will launch a tablet similar to this at north america.
It is about time to show Steve something MAGICAL
I wonder is there anyway to run meego for tablets on this...
@Xcharles718
if there is linux kernel support on Tegra 2 and you can access it then yes should not be too hard to get Meego on this tablet.
australia and germany are neighbors?
haha
i will get this pad.
Austria != Australia
Austria = Europe, Mountains, Opernball
Australiea = Continent, Kangoroos, Ayers Rock
@scorpic
sarcasm =! seriousness
2.2 + flash would be preferable Herr Colonel Von Tablettenschaft
"€399 (about $518) may seem a bit steep for an Android device"
Er, why? iPad does less and costs more and engadget seems happy enough with them.
@HKCally
yeah but thats apple.
everybody is happy when they charge too much ;)
on the other hand i dont understand why they even want to sell the hardware for 400€.
you get awesome netbooks for 250€ and they have better hardware in about every aspect.
of course netbooks had more time to get into the low budget price range, but an arm SoC costs less then an atom board and you probably pay less for the chasis as well.
i guess those companies just want to milk the tablet craze thats starting now.
@pfanne
actually this is has more power than an atom processor due to the gpu in use it plays 1080p flawlessly which is something no netbook under 400$ can do
@DefPoet
true.
the gpu is faster, but tegra2 is probably still cheaper, then an atom board.
@HKCally I think the Ipad was a marketing ploy to see HOW MUCH FOR HOW LITTLE customers will pay. And they proved their point. So from this point forward Apple will start selling EVEN LESS for MORE, Because they know the fanboys are stupid enough to buy it. I hare APPLE, I was gong to buy the ipad.. However, when I found out, that you could no add storage and it did not have flash, no multitask, its NOT FULL HD, the wireless issues, Tied to AT&T. I thought I would be wait for a better Android Tablet.
@Toshiba Why would you have assumed that the ipad was going to have all those things in your wish-list? Are you seriously that dense or were you just faking the part about you were "going to buy" an ipad?
@HKCally
exactly what i thought - that's a very reasonable price for a 10" high-spec tablet
Looks like a giant version of android os. But then again the iPad is a giant version of ios 3.0
@Leegh229 Yah kinda, except for background and a few tweaked apps, and different ratio
All we seem to do is just hear about these tablets, and there are lots of them, but only Apple has actually brought one to market.
Its like all these concept cars that look really cool, but never actually see the light of day.
@colinfox
"but only Apple has actually brought one to market."
Can I say "other people have sold tablets for ages" while backing away slowly....
@HKCally
You can say it, but selling only a few is hardly called selling.
@colinfox
Stock fanboy answer. Whether Job's zombie army are buying them or not doesn't change the fact that other tablets been "brought to market".
@HKCally stock hater answer
@Formul
You're kidding right? I bought an iPad but I'm not blind to reality.
@Formul
Whereas pretending there are no other tablets "on the market" *isn't* being a hater I suppose?
@Ray W
Maybe you're not blind to reality, but you sure as hell are blind to original question. Are there other tablets "on the market" or not?
@HKCally
Gah. Retract that one. My bad.
@HKCally "Job's zombie army"
Stock hater answer. Grow the F up.
That wonky bezel when vertical makes me feel ill :(
@Gobes
+1. Would've been nicer in portrait mode to have it symmetrical, but I guess your hand is supposed to cover them bits anyway?
No wireless n?
So wait, everybody was laughing at apple for giving the OPTION to pixel double iphone apps , EVEN if updated apps were coming , and this thing can ONLY run android apps made for the tiny screen and nobody gives a crap?
Not to mention 800x400 is just lame , google should update android to support 1600x800 or something.
If it's running 2.2, why does it have the 2.0 drawer?
I like how engadget calls this expensive, when it is priced very similarily to the ipad.
Tegra 2 AND 1gb of DDR2, USB(s) and the froyo flavor of flash?!?!? Move over ipad this is what a tablet should be!
@ryn456
This will hit store shelves right about the time Apple introduces iPad v2, and lowers the price of the base model to $349. It's funny how people don't live in the real world anymore. Announcements aren't the same as shipping products, no matter how hard you wish.
@Ed T Yea but it personally makes me mad when someone with a superior ( better specd anyway) comes along and cant push units and apple can sell any they want for no good reason. I know that dosnt change anything either. But if you only look at what is selling right now and is already in the market every one would make the ipad because its selling. I dont care if it never comes to market the fact that someone is fighting the market in the face of overwhelming opposition is fantastic.Even if for no more the they are fighting the power i think gadgets like this are good.
@ryn456
A press release is "fighting the power"? Huh? By the time they release this tablet and try to sell it, it will probably be obsolete technology and over-priced as well. If this company is serious about competing, then let's see some actual products -- talk is cheap. People rag on Apple, but who else is selling a tablet with full support, an app store, and regular OS updates?
@Ed T alright but apple is an established multi-billion dollar corporation. This is a couple of people with an idea. that alone deserves some respect. Yes im sure that this device provided it dose ever come out at all wont be so impressive as it sounds now.People rag on apple because they are a big corporation that makes it damn near impossible to have a competing product even if it is better. Can you blame apple for being successful? No, but i can respect some one trying to actually "think differently"
It'd like to try it out.
Ya know what would be better than an Android tablet?
A tablet that was a flip-out keyboard and touchpad for standard laptop-esque use, uses Chrome OS as it's OS. Or just a tablet. Whatever. I'm not picky. Chrome OS is better than Android for tablets, anyway.
awesome
