HTC beginning Froyo rollout tomorrow? Maybe, maybe not
HTC Europe director Mark Moons caused quite a stir this morning when he tweeted that the company would begin rolling out Android Froyo updates to devices tomorrow, starting with the Desire, but we wouldn't get too excited yet -- HTC tells us that it's possible a rollout will begin tomorrow, but nothing's finalized yet pending some final testing. We've certainly got our fingers crossed -- and we're sure Desire owners the world over will be hitting that System Updates button nonstop for the next few days.

what is Froyo?
@rmbrown09 a speed which android can smoke all other phones full flash 10.1 included
@rmbrown09
What is Froyo?
Froyo is Beautiful. Froyo goes anywhere and lasts all day. There’s no right way, or wrong way and it’s crazy powerful. It’s magical, you already know how to use it. It’s 70 thousand apps and counting.
@rmbrown09 Google Android Operating System version 2.2
@ChazClout
Lol! Nice one.
On topic though, why no Hero support??? It's supposed to be lighter-weight than 2.1, and yet they refuse to let the Hero update!
Anyone who hacked 2.2 on Hero have any recommendations?
@rmbrown09
Well, it's not quite a yogurt, not quite frozen, but man... (laughs, then pauses) So, to answer you question, I don't know.
@Wolfticket I'll be honest I was being facetious. 2.2 vs iOS4 is quite inevitable.

You got things mixed up. You describing the iPad actually. Is it not the most glorious device!!!
Froyo is a cheap plastic toy that you get with a Happy Meal vs an iPhone which is comparable to a pearl, a jewel.

@Mike10010100 HTC have no excuse not to put 2.2 onto the Hero. If the Wildfire can run it so can the Hero.
I've ran 2.2 on mine and it runs fine, I was running FroydVillain 1.1.1 and even at this stage it works quite well.
@iPhone 4
Dude, you've got balls using that screen name on engadget.
Also, you may have noticed that this article was about HTC and Android. Just a reminder.
@kharma45
I know! I'm pretty livid myself. However, are there any known issues with 2.2 on Hero (hacked)? I would really love to upgrade, but I'll be damned if everything isn't working ok currently (with unrooted 2.1).
Are the speed increases really noticable?
@iPhone 4
Hahahaha!!! Oh, you trolls always amuse me. Begone now.
@Mike10010100 Yes I find the speed increases very noticeable, everything just feels like it got a boost. Personally I'm loving the push notifications. Extremely useful as I'm sure many will discover.
@Mike10010100 Oh, realised you were referring to hero. I'm n1.
@Mike10010100 I never played around with it enough to find any major bugs with 2.2, after a while I just went back to VillainROM 12 as I missed Sense.
The known issues with it on the xda forums are:
Stock camera app crashing
Notification and chargeLEDs
Autobrightness (only dims when screen is turned off)
It is pretty functional though.
@fpad77
Sorry to continue pestering everyone, but has anyone gone from a stock 2.1 Hero to a 2.2 hero? Where did you get your set of directions? Some of the directions I've seen have been riddled with "THIS MAY CAUSE BRICKING" and that's the last thing I want, especially since my phone is working normally. Are the risks small?
@Mike10010100
froydvillain or cronos froyo
@Mike10010100 Once you get it rooted and do a nandroid back-up, it's pretty risk free tbh.
@rmbrown09
HTC loves playing with my EMOTIONS!!
@pple is poo Shame its only wifi....poor troll.
@Mike10010100 Rooting the hero is ridiculously easy. Takes 20 minutes. The froyo roms aren't completely stable as devs are having to piece together kernal source from other areas. With htc giving 2.2 to other devices soon (hopefully) they should get a completely stable and faster version than the stock.
Also, its just a disclaimer. The hero is hard to brick. If you get issues you can restore to a backup.
@Seven2k Dammit! They've still got no word on the evo either.
@iPhone 4
And iPad is the diarrhoea you get with a Taco Bell meal. It made as much sense as your nonsense.
@Seven2k
You think HTC is bad? Try being with Verizon on the MotoDroid. We don't get ANYTHING on schedule!
@rmbrown09 Froyo is what I want on my HTC Magic without rooting. *Looks at phone in disgust at 1.6* I want that 3D app draw. You know? The one where all the apps fly in?! Not this crappy slide up affair. Its dull :(
@pple is poo If I expand the view and downrank a comment that has already been downranked into oblivion will someone show up at the person's house and punch them in the face?
@rmbrown09
Not a single Mark Moons joke? Shame on you all!
@iPhone 4 I thought I'd seen some bad analogies in my time.
Then I saw this.
@rmbrown09
All the android fans have gone to androidcentral.com
@GadgetNiall
Get adwlauncher from the market..its default cm6 also
@iPhone 4 :DDD You're obsessed, man. And BTW you're comparing a piece of hardware to an OS, amateur.
@BrightSilence
>Implying that Engadget is a strictly Android website.
I just read the comments on these articles to compare the number of Android Trolls vs iPhone Trolls.
16 trolls against iPhone 4 for every 4 trolls against Android.
HURF DURF.
HTC EVO 4G + Froyo = Better than anything else out there right now
Make it happen HTC.
@jaleman This, this, thisthisthisthisthisTHHHIIIISSS. Especially if Flash 10.1 supports the front camera and mic. Mobile Tinychat do want.
@jaleman Yeah, but saying "Evo Eclair" sounds so much cooler than "Evo Froyo". =)
@kevlowe Evo 2 Gingerbread?
@jaleman : Samsung Epic 4G + Froyo will run crysis!
@angelusp
What about the battery life?
Isn't there an option in the setting to make the flash inactive till you click it? So you get the CHOICE of choosing to load flash contents or not so as long as you don't click all the flash contents, the battery life shouldn't be too different.
@One Love
So will the EVO 2 and the Droid 6. But none of those phones haven't come out yet. :)
@jaleman
I meant to say have, not haven't. Oy...
@OshiHidra
YESSSSSS! Running CyanogenMod 6 on the EVO, and LOVING IT! Think theres sum bugginess with the data speeds (upgraded the radio), but nothing drastic. STILL LOVING IT! Uncap FPS, or FIND a way to manage it better HTC, and WE ALL GOOD BABY!!!!!!!!!!!
@jaleman
Well,
Froyo + G1Blaze + HSPA+ == (head explodes)
It BETTER happen HTC & Tmo..
@jaleman "HTC EVO 4G + Froyo = Better than anything else out there right now"
sorry, i love you like a brother but no. for starters when the Evo can hardware accelerate any video including 720p/1080p MKV files and not stutter like crazy, get back to me. I needn't get into Hummingbird > Snapdragon, my GPU being twice as fast, or the orgasmic Super AMOLED. After all, a war is on. No time for me against you, right now its me and you against Steve.
Sincerely,
Galaxy S
@MisterWarmth I have an evo, but my dad has a captivate. The screen is beautiful and the performance is wonderful but i can't stand touchwiz
@jaleman
Unfortunately HTC never knows what the hell HTC is actually doing.
Tip, HTC: Stop working on the next 10 phones down the line for a minute and catch up with Cyanogen and Motorola.
@The Geek its all good bro. TouchWiz isn't that big a deal, I happen to like it, and besides there's always LauncherPro. Ultimately when Gingerbread comes out all these overlay UI's will be moot anyway.
@MisterWarmth I'm looking forward to it, i can't stand sense either, coming from a nexus one, i'm a bit of an android purist i just love the feel of stock froyo
is it like a game?
@rmbrown09
Yes, and because it's open source; everybody's a winner (except the silly little trolls, but no one cares about their malformed opinions anyway).
Do it HTC!
