RIM takes control of blackpad.com, laughter takes control of our minds
A quick WHOIS confirms that RIM's taken control of blackpad.com -- yes, it's long been rumored as a potential name for the BlackBerry tablet, but we're certainly hoping Waterloo's just parking a domain name to keep squatters at bay, because, seriously, we just got over the iPad jokes, you know?P.S.- And might we see whatever this is at the RIM / AT&T event on Tuesday? Consider our interest piqued.

What's wrong with BlackPad? What would you recommend?
@rwalrond
Pay them no mind. They dog anything that isn't Apple, remember?
@rwalrond
Blackberry should be in the name. It needs to be recognizable.
@rwalrond
Yeah I feel like I'm missing something. I'm not sure what's wrong with BlackPad, either.
@rwalrond : BerryPad?
@rwalrond
You guys seriously don't remember the tampon jokes about the iPad?
@One Love
BerryPad is better than BlackPad, definitely. If you mention "berries", people think Blackberries. BlackPad doesn't fit.....
But here's a wild thought..... WHY DO YOU NEED TO HAVE "PAD" in the name of the device?? Talk about trying too hard. I'm pretty sure RIM (and a whole lot of other companies) can come up with way better names. Stop being ****ing lazy, ffs.
@Neotyguy40
No, anti-apple fanboi's minds are just as jaded as apple fanboi's.
BlackBerryPad rolls of the tongue fairly easily. Plus it could be shortened to BBPad.
@rwalrond StormPad?
@rwalrond
afropad.com?
@rwalrond hmmm definetly not racist sounding...
@rwalrond
Yea, that name is (in Issac Hayes voice) solid.
@rwalrond
I would recommend PadBerry and have a bunny clucking like a chicken harking them.
@rwalrond They should call it BlackTab, or BlackBoard
Nowadays, when you have Pad in the name, it immediately associates it as an Apple knockoff.
@rwalrond Blackberry Exaro
Its latin for "to write on a waxen tablet." It doesn't completely fit, but its close, it sounds cool, its original (as far as device names go), and its different. That took me maybe 20 seconds to find. The "BlackPad" sounds like it was named by a lazy marketing team.
@rwalrond
When they said Blackpad I had a vision of a cool apartment tricked out in 70's colours with a bong and huge stereo for the bruthas to chill with.
@rwalrond
Lmao you really think the black pad is a good name? Seriously? Lmao the hate for engadget has gotten ridiculous lately, anyone that can convince themselves that it's bias to be against the name black pad is out of their mind.
@UnderscoreHero BlackBoard sounds like a good pretty good name if they were to make a tablet.
@One Love Believe it or not, but BerryPad is owned by HTConsulting. You can check it with WHOIS.
@rwalrond
SlateBerry - BerrySlate - RIMPad (lol) - how about scrap the entire allegiance to the BlackBerry moniker. Yea that's it.
@Plazmic Flame I like the name SlateBerry. Though I'm sure someone is gonna make some sort of dirty joke outta that one lol.
@rwalrond
TouchRIM
What would Don Draper call it?
@UnderscoreHero
Yea I was thinkinkg the exact samething. No "pad" in this one.
@rivengle
How is that racist sounding?!?!? So I guess we can't say blackjack, blackboard, etc anymore? People are too fraking sensitive these days! Get over it.
@UnderscoreHero
+1 for Blackboard
@Plazmic Flame SlateBerry...nuff said
@rwalrond MarionBerry
@rwalrond
I agree.
And FYI the iPad is still a joke. *gasp*
@rwalrond
BlackPad is better than something like BlackBerry Pad 9900
@rwalrond
Personal opinion would Blackberry Tablet aka BBT. Seems stupid to try and mimic a name.
@rwalrond
We are all still laughing at iPad but I don't get the joke with Blackpad.
Probably just a holder with the final product called Blackberry Pad.
I do still giggle at RIM though.
Apple: iPad
RIM: BlackPad
HP: PalmPad
Microsoft: Tablet PC, err, UMPC, no no, Courier, wait no, SlatePC!
Dell: StreakPad
Sony: PSP Go
Nokia: N9000
Acer: zr1089-80sPad
@rwalrond : RIM : Racism In Motion.....
@blenderman345 EL EM EF AY OH (lmfao, for those who don't do phonics...)
@rwalrond How about RIMpad, RIMit, Blackslab, Catchupad, Lessrelevantpad.
It's terrible to lose your lead and then play catch up in an industry that you don't know. Think Dell & Garmin phones to start with.
@rwalrond AfricanAmericanPad should be more like it.
@UnderscoreHero
You know, now that you have said it, "BlackBoard" seems like the most obvious name! It goes with the "Pad/Slate" naming theme, but doesn't sound like a knock off.
Also, it has the nostalgia factor, and they could also make it seem like it has an educational motive (if they wish to market it that way)
I think both you and "BlackBoard" get a +1 from me. BlackBerry, you listening?
@UnderscoreHero
I really like BlackBoard, although I think I remember as some other piece of technology...
@ac2913 There's a "Blackboard" company that releases learning software, and mobile apps.
laughter "take" control? Is that grammatically correct?
@rmbrown09 haha Engadget with the quick edit
@rmbrown09
in soviet russia laughing mind control YOU
I may as well follow the bandwagon and create a DarthPad
@Lord Vader
How about SithPad, my lord? A Death Star app is in the works as well...
@Plazmic Flame
It's a shame it has a fatal flaw. I mean, it's quite expensive, it's not like we can do a recall or anything...
@Plazmic Flame. How did you know about that app? I bet you it was that damn WookieLeaks again. They will pay for their treacheries
@Lord Vader
If you only knew the power of the Dark Side.......processor
Lord Vader, your witty Star Wars puns get better every time.
Let's hope it's not a tablet with optical trackpad...
