Droid 2 manual leaks, teaches you everything you need to know about a phone you don't have
You know the drill: blurry shots of phone get leaked... user's manual gets leaked... excited would-be buyers voraciously consume manual's contents... phone finally gets released. Indeed, that's precisely the same well-trodden path the upcoming Droid 2 is taking, so if you're looking at getting this thing in the next few weeks, you might want to start skimming the documentation so there aren't any embarrassing newbie missteps in your first few moments of ownership. As Droid Life notes, we've got more confirmation here that the phone will be running the same skin as the Droid X, complete with the Swype-enabled (and presumably multitouch-enabled) soft keyboard for those times when you're too lazy to pull out the physical keyboard. We can't imagine what else could possibly leak at this point -- so hey, Verizon, can we recommend you go ahead and get this show on the road?

I got droid, hope to get froyo to start with
The keyboard looks really nice, and im sure it types better than the D1. Thats about the only thing i see thats different, plus im sure the boot loader will be locked. Looks like im waiting for the Droid 3 with a duel core processor and gingerbread.
O_o
Samsung Fascinate...
I'm sure if you read Engadget, you're not someone who needs a phone manual.
@Phuk0ff But how will you figure out how to turn the phone on?
The section on how to root the phone is always helpful.
I will judge as soon as I see the built quality. Better not be as horrendous as droid x.
Yeah, it is. And now that the Nexus One has been discontinued, you can't buy a modern android phone in the U. S. that comes with vanilla android :/
It's still a shitty phone (EVO or droid X)
I like this.
Gay. Looks like a fucking iPhone.
@Andork
I chortled
@Andork
Down ranked in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...
@Andork
Gay if it were true (although it does have a touchscreen *gasp* it must be), but alas it looks nothing like an iPhone and you sir are an idiot.
Gay. Looks like an iPhone to me with a bootleg keyboard.
@Andork
so important you had to comment twice...and you are such an idiot I had to reply twice. Again, this is nothing like the iphone so give it up.
@SlaterGS
lol, he figured maybe the second time wouldn't get down ranked.
@System
how wrong he was
I'm still not understanding why Android still doesn't have a standard for the buttons on the bottom. I mean the Droid 2 has the buttons in a different order than even the Droid 1!
@ai3rocks57 Actually, look at all the new Android phones the past few months, they are all in the same order. lol
Only stock Android devices have the order like that of the N1 and OG Droid.
Yet another Android phone destined to move fewer units than the last Android phone, like every Android phone since the original Droid.
@Perspective
Go away
@Perspective
Yep, destined to sell less than an over-hyped and inferior device...like the iPhone. That's the way of the world, I suppose.
@Perspective Pretty sure the Droid Inc. and Droid X sold more than the original Droid.
Either way doesn't matter, I love my OG Droid. lol
@Perspective
Well in 1more year all people with the droid will be buying the top of the line android phone then....all b/c the contracts will end
so I can get the manual, a Droid2 case at Best Buy, but I can't get the damn phone itself in time for my trip. wtf?
Chris: It doesn't presumably have a multi-touch soft keyboard, it says right in the manual that it has it.
Two gripes (outside of encrypted bootloader). 1. major gripe: when the hell do we get an Android worldphone from Verizon? 2. minor gripe: SAR is pretty damn high at 1.50W/kg (yes, I"m a paranoid tinfoil hat wearer)
@user111999
verizon uses cdma, everybody else in the world uses gsm so how should such a phone work? as far as i know verizon phone don't even have sim cards and without a valid sim you can't make calls over gsm (except emergency numbers)
Verizon has some dual CDMA/GSM phones, but they all run Windows Mobile (and are made by HTC, for the most part).
The droid x keyboard is great in all, but i do prefer physical keyboards...dang it.
Does it include how to instal Cyanogenmod? Otherwise I'm keeping my Droid.
"Teaches you everthing you need to know about a phone u dont have" also a phone i dont want, my phone doesnt need a manual so it doesnt come with one, and besides it got no buttons!
the only thing wrong with the 1st droid is the keyboard and if they fix that. add 2.2 and 1gz processor and more memory.. there is no reason to hate this phone.
this will be the standard phone for people who want a keyboard, and trust me there are a lot of people who still do
Will it be a bogo? Will they have plenty in stock? And how much will the D2 cost. That's the deciding factor.
no hdmi out? :(
what's the screen size on this baby?
@mattei if you want HDMI get a tv
Am I the only one who noticed the subtle middle finger on the labeling of the arrow keys?
That aside, chances are pretty good im going to pick this up on the big V. The iPhone 3G used to be a great phone, but I need a phone that can do more than what the iPhone 4 offers.
@deedeedee
OMG!!! Luke Wilson was right!
Look, no one is surprised that you can't talk and surf the web at the same time... that's the way it's always been since the beginning.
Is that why recent reports show that more smartphone data was used on Verizon? Maybe people aren't busy taking phone calls while they are surfing the web.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/07/27/verizon-wireless-customers-top-the-charts-in-smartphone-data-usage/
what's the goddamn release date and how do I BUY THE THING
jesus
@moothemagiccow they're his goddam kids too
All,
Been crawling the web to find out if the droid 2 will be compatible with my beloved droid(milestone)
Can anybody confirm this??
THANKS
@Michael Scrip
Not many care nor need to talk and surf I mean its hard enough to hold a call on att let alone talk and surf
I never talk and surf because its a stupid ideato do so
eh... the front of this looks like a child of the Nexus One and Droid X. I liked the Droid's distinctive sharp edging
I was just wondering but I saw the specs for the milestone in the u.k. and it said it had a 1ghz snapdragon processor...... why does America get screwed with a 500mhz or 600mhz?
My lord if I see another one of these MotoBlur UI's I might cry.
Can't we just get stock UI please :(?
let me finish learning how to use VCR+ then I'll spend the rest of my crappy life learning how to use this piece of shit
Do you guys think Froyo's WiFi hotspot feature will require an additional charge on our data plans in order to use it (on Verizon)?
@kevin52094 Hey Kev whats up man how you been
so keen to know how the n9's specs are going to measure up to this.
Hurry-up engadget and get us the goods on the n9 please!!!!
Alot of people think that the Droid 2 will make the original Droid obsolete. I can not really agree with that. I think that the Droid will have a life similar to the G1. The G1 carried on because regular non-tech people liked it. I think this will be true of the Droid especially if they cut the price.
Plus if the Droid gets updated to 2.2 not even iOS 4 will have anything on it. This article ( http://getyourgadgetsgoing.com/2010/06/10/areas-that-iphone-4-still-crumble-to-android/ ) explains it better then i can. Check it out.
