Agree with you. The older design was much more elegant a distinctive. The shiny curves of a new one looked like some execs demanded to make it look "more iphony" and designers had to obey. The back is virtually the same (albeit a slight difference in shade) but the curved shiny front looks totally out of place.
To summarize Droid2 changes:
++ Good keyboard (wider and raised keys)
- Ugly design
-- Motoblur
