HTC will ship all Android phones in China with Froyo on board, fuels fire for immediate update closer to home
A wordy headline, to be sure, but a pleasing one nonetheless. We came across HTC's Chinese web portal listing the Desire as coming with Android 2.2 (with Sense!) and simply had to ping the official source for confirmation. It turns out the info up there is no mistake: all HTC Android handsets shipping to China -- which includes the Wildfire and Tianyi -- will do so with Froyo preloaded, cutting down on your upgrade angst at least until the Gingerbread man comes a'knocking. HTC has also reiterated that a 2.2 update for its phones already on the market will be delivered "very soon," so if all goes well, we should be looking at a Froyo-dominated August in the land of High Tech Computers.

@Wesscoast
did you forget about required carrier customizations?
Good for HTC for exposing an "open" platform to other countries. Now I just have to wait for that special someone in the other countries to came up with an awesome apps... Possibly more kitten wallpaper.
Dammit china! What happened to the great us of a getting everything first?
Yay! Once this happens there will be even more froyo roms for my eris!
Sent from my froyoEris
great..time to flash my Evo back to stock..
@neeko18 Why bother? Whenever there's an update there's usually a rooted version of it available at XDA within a day or two... I'd rather wait an extra day than risk losing root access forever if the new update ends up blocking w/e vulnerability was being used before. Then again, Froyo may address two of the main three reasons why I rooted my EVO, full backups and WiFi tether; tho the later is pretty unlikely. Third reason being the highly optimized user-dev ROMs...
Reading this on an N1 and the Engadget app and using the trackball to advance the comments pages.
Very convenient!
How do ya like d'em apples??
I'm running Froyo on my Desire courtesy of XDA Devs. Rocks. On 2.1 original ROM got 7.8Mflops. On Froyo I get 39Mflops. It's fast as hell, it adds some very cool features like the LED torch (which is *super* bright), wireless hotspot, and on the new radio I'm getting 1.87mb down in the center of town. It's very, very good.
One word FRAGMENTATION.
I want to buy one. Help me?Anyone going to China?
Now if only I get actually get the Desire in the UK... it's sold out on nearly every online store.
Please 2.2 for EVO!!!!!
Ok, now that we're getting Froyo. Is Gingerbread on the EVO a foregone conclusion? I'm not talking about a rooted EVO. I'm talking about an official upgrade to Gingerbread.
Wow...China gets FROYO before us ?
I want my FROYO , damn it !
I'm sick of waiting... hearing more news about how it will be released soon... and waiting more... Would you hurry up and release the update already!!?? My EVO needs this now.
分裂!
Never wanted anything more than Froyo.
Froyo (aka FroydVillain from villainrom.co.uk) on my HTC Hero, never been faster! According to HTC, Hero is not powerful enough.
Guess this mostly signals HTC's poor support for current devices than anything else. We've seen it with their 2.1 update for Hero.
Don't make me laugh!
HTC Hero owners have been promised 2.1 "Next Week" for nearly a year, and if it weren't for all the diy rom on the net, most HTC owners would still be stuck on 1.6
