Nintendo issues a 3DS release date date
Find the headline confusing? Well, the explanation won't help to assuage the muddle much. A Nintendo spokesman told Bloomberg Japan that Ninty plans to announce the Nintendo 3DS price and release date on September 29th. Thus far, we've only seen speculation about pricing (between $249 and $299) and release dates (between October and March, 2011). So yeah, we still don't know when or for how much but at least we know when we'll find out when and for how much. Make sense?

cant come soon enough!
@ray k
For serious. I'm more excited about the 3DS as a product than I have been for any console... ever. The PS2 came close. It had so much reality distortion hype... supercomputer, can't sell them to Iran cause they could be used to launch missiles... etc.
Even the 360 and PS3 left me kind of Meh in anticipation due to their price and underwhelming launch system graphics.
Somehow, the fugly little DS has become my most-played system of all time, surpassing my Dreamcast as favorite system ever. The upgrade to the 3DS is a no-brainer.
@JayVe
Wow. It's hard to beilive there is a console better than the dreamcast...
@aec0 Androids UI is ugly Anyways
Wet blanket.
@covcomm
There is no console better than Dreamcast something may equal it one day but nothing will ever be better.
@JayVe
I'm getting it. I wanted the PSP2, but without 3D, it will be outdated (hardware-wise) in, I don't know, 2 years?
Sony got it wrong: 3D is more suitable for handheld devices more than it will ever be for expensive glasses-much PS3. It was also a way to make the PSP2 unique, rather than just a watered down version of the PS3 console games.
@ray k As long as it's an hour long special on ESPN, I'm happy with this idea.
@ray k
That makes today the release date date date!
@ray k
I don't see how this is going to sell smoothly... The people amazed at the screen were amazed at the no-glasses part... They still all said it was shitty. The design is also fucking ugly, and it may cost more than the PSPgo... Which doesn't have 3D screen technology, but it does have a bigger screen, 16GB memory built-in, a MUCH BETTER design, etc... And it's on sale at dell.com for $169 all the time!
I seriously think that this will be the first big flop for Nintendo... And I LOVE my DS... 3D just doesn't need a place in the portable gaming world. It can stay on the 45" TV's.
@aec0 Androids UI is ugly Anyways
your a horrible attempt of trying to make a baby
@TareG Remember that if your eyes aren't staring at the center of the screen the 3D effect goes away. Just perfect for a hand held.
@APV
You do understand that the 3DS is the proper successor to the DS, and makes numerous advances besides the 3D (which is optional anyways)?
@covcomm The PC :)
This is earlier than anyone expected!
I'm going to preorder, especially after seeing the new Street Fighter pics.
3D Glasses can go to hell.
@JayVe
Damnit. Reading comprehension would be great. This isn't a release date, but a date to announce the release date.
Sugar.
@JayVe
You know reading the title would've of helped yo.
@Protato I missed the title too as I clicked as fast as possible to open the article. But I did think, usually they would actually put the date in the title. It took me a second to get it
At least it narrows down the timeline to Sept 29-Mar31.
My bet is still on November 21st of this year.
@Elaith That's a fair guess. The original DS' launch date was revealed on September 20 as November 21. (According to Wikipedia)
Well we know how much it will cost in the uk!! £199
Play.com glitch! :P
@theevil
Ouch. The current price for ds is $130 at Amazon. How much is 200 quid in dollars?
@my password is not qwerty
Short linked it for anyone interested: http://amzn.to/bbUfHb
@my password is not qwerty
around $310, although anywhere between $250-$300 would be my guess. Maybe $279?
Ooo. Thats not good I'd say the magic selling number for a product like this would be £150.
@DougieBear
$200 is the cut off for me. I'd rather get a iPod Touch if I'm spending anymore.
@my password is not qwerty
3DS games, hell even DS games blow anything the ipod/iphone has to offer out of the water.
9/29? Well thats a nice birthday present i guess.
@Karate Tortoise
Only if the present you have in mind is a piece of paper with the announcement date on it. Read the article.
@Karate Tortoise
A free 3DS would be a better one :P
@TareG How do you know that he didn't mean the announcement as a birthday present?
@kb24istrash
Ahahahaha! You are one funny person. LMAO! :-D
I sense some bitchiness in this post.
Yeah get dems ready..............
$300?! At that price, they can take it and shove it up their a$$e$. Fitting...I guess.
Really? Not that hard to speculate..its gonna be out before the holiday season to rake in the cash and maximize sales by holiday shoppers. Im guessing late October time frame so if there is any shortage, they have a month and some to ramp up production for xmas.
The title of this post could have been worded better
It's perfectly understandable. September 29 is the date of which the will announce the release date. Which makes today Nintendo 3DS' release date date date.

$249 to $299 for a handheld would be crazy for Nintendo to do. That would price it far higher than the Wii.
Should those be the prices, I'll just wait for the inevitable hardware rehash Nintendo always does.
Seriously, that would be way too much for a handheld, even from Nintendo.
@ModernTenshi04
It sounds very reasonable to me:
1) It IS as/more powerful than the Wii, only it will fit in your pocket and won't need a TV.
2) Glasses-free 3D
3) No competition (Sony stupidly decided that the PSP2 won't have 3D i.e. will be outdated in a couple of years)
@TareG
So what? Awesome, it'll have better graphics than the Wii.
On a small screen.
Sure, it can fit in your pocket, but it's a gaming system, and outside of hardcore gamers, most people won't want to swallow that kind of price for a handheld. They'll have a tough time marketing it to their touch generations crowd to upgrade, and parents will find it hard to swallow buying multiple systems for their kids.
Most people feel that 3D is a gimmick anyway. Nintendo might be able to make it cool, especially since it won't require glasses, but still. Sure the next Sony handheld supposedly won't be 3D, but Sony's copied Nintendo plenty of times before (remember, within 8 months of Nintendo announcing the Wii and its controller, Sony announced motion controls for their PS3 at the following E3), and could produce a system that's more in line with being an entertainment system, akin to the PS3.
$250 to $300 for a handheld is just obscene.
@ModernTenshi04
So you felt the same about the PSP when it first came out, right?
Regardless.... as someone who already owns 3 different consoles, I find it MORE ridiculous that my friends are ditching perfectly good-working Xboxs just to get a Slim... paying $300 for something new and different makes sense... paying $300 for something you already own just cause the newer one is new, that's stupid.
I'd also rather spend $300 on a 3DS over $200 for Natal.
The PSP drove me away from handheld gaming, the 3DS will bring it back.
@TareG It isn't MORE powerful than a Wii... it's simply the most powerful HANDHELD out there...
@HateEveryBody
Totally felt the same way about the PSP when it came out, though at the time it was also too high a price to ask for a new gaming system from a company who had never done portable gaming before. This isn't like the GameBoy when it first came out, because it was an already well established market where Nintendo was still king.
Other than improved graphics, a 3D top screen, and a joystick, the 3DS isn't too terribly new from the current DS.
My argument is that if Nintendo wants the same level of success they've experienced with the DS, pricing it that high won't get them there.
$200 is more appropriate. Drop the DS Lite from production, possibly the DSi as well, or drop the price on the DSi and DSi XL.
I'm pretty serious when I say I'll wait for the inevitable next hardware revision if the system arrives at $250 or more.
@TareG Please get off the "no 3D = outdated in 2 years" train that you've included in at least 2 posts here. 3D is a gimmick, as shown by the abysmal sales of 3D TVs.
@pdiddy
Thanks for proving my point. 3DTV with glasses = Gimmick. 3D handheld, glasses-free = The next evolutionary step in handheld gaming.
@pdiddy
absymal sales my ass, they just got on the market.
@HateEveryBody yes i deserve to be downranked but anyone buying a ds has to to younger than 12... the games were a joke to me when i bought my ds lite. call of duty? haha that was a joke om there.
@ModernTenshi04 that sounds like a great price because:
1. It is handheld.
2. It has a 3D screen.
3. It doesn't need a TV screen, because it has two.
4. It has an accelerometer and motion sensor.
5. It has three cameras - one inside and 2 outside for taking 3D pictures.
So $300 sounds like the perfect price.
