I, like thousands of others, had their PS3 drive crap out on them. After that the USB ports started acting out. There are 56, 000 Google results for "broken PS3 drive." My thinking of Sony is good idea but it's gonna break on you.
@mrjonahemery A lot of people who get YLODs(I know now your issue), don't clean their systems. I vacuum out the ports to stop dust buildup which will eventually lead to problems over time.
@bitcloudrzr My original PS3's drive was acting up on me around March (just in time for God of War and Final Fantasy). Dusted it or and it started back working fine.
