Motorola Droid getting Android 2.2 next week (update)
We've just been dropped a brief note from Verizon that the original Droid will be getting the full Froyo treatment at some point next week. Considering the brevity of the announcement, it's entirely possible that this was thrown together in response to Sprint's EVO news -- but who cares? The more Android 2.2, the better, right? No official word on other Droid variants -- most of which are likely going to see Froyo updates soon -- but we'll be keeping our ears firmly planted to the ground.

@1mc FINALY
@1mc
Alright, that's it. Come on HTC! You're going to let all the Hero owners down by not releasing 2.2 for it?? WTF? Everyone else is getting 2.2! It'll only make the Hero faster and better!

Don't feed the troll guys. Only I can handle him because I don't give a shit.
"droid is garbage. whats the point of a d-pad on a TOUCHSCREEN PHONE."
Emulators. Also for editing text when typing with the physical keyboard without relocating your hands.
"i can understand arrow keys, but not a pad that took up all that space. "
Know what? I'm going to agree with you on that. Only advantage, again, is emulators. Having a full d-pad instead of just arrow keys makes this thing a wonderful gaming platform.
"they could have used that space to make the keys off-set, but no, they'd rather make the keys look like they were straight from an 80's calculator."
That's the cool style of the phone. The keys are great to type with. They look and feel teriffic.

Will you shut up troll
@1mc I don't know about you guys, but I had this like a month ago so it's not a big deal for me, but I'm glad the less fortunate people are finally getting it..
@1mc I know right? The thing I'm looking forward to the most is the speed bump.
@1mc DROID DOES Froyo

If your argument is that Android is 'fragmented' and iOS is not, you'd best think again:
Those of us that own an iPhone, iPod Touch, and an iPad, also know about mobile OS 'fragmentation' all too well, given that we're still waiting for all these devices receive the same version update.
Android may be 'fragmented', but at least Goole appears to truly address customer needs/desires in a timely manner, without a bunch of lame excuses and easily debunked finger-pointing.
Just Saying... as one who supports both platforms.
@1mc
Get out yo umbrellas android owners... it's Raaaaaiiiiining FroYo!!!!!
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun
... and as far as WinMo7s goes, your safe bet is to wait until an actual consumer product surfaces before making such lofty claims.
Again... Just Saying.

@DaHarder
Hahaha! If only his argument were that laughable and thought out. In fact, he's a Windows Phone 7 fanboy. A fanboy for a product that hasn't been released yet. Hey, I'm willing to give props where they're needed, but WP7 hasn't even been released yet. Can we hold back the fanboyism till then?

Can you just get banned again? You're on your like 5th account. This one was created just this morning after our conversation. GTFO please.
@1mc I've been running cyanogen 6 which is build off of froyo on my droid, and even with out the overclocking (though overclocking makes it better) froyo really adds a lot of legs to how well the droid 1 works. Its a shame that its being discontinued because verizon could easily turn the droid 1 into a free basic phone.
@Mike10010100
That guy is like the Fernando Rocker of cell phones.
@Mike10010100
HAHA! Your just incredibly jealous that the droid is way better than the hero, We all know that! Lmao!
I'm assuming you said that in the "droid voice"
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun
There's really no need for name-calling, especially from someone who's bragging about products not yet available.
Like I posted before, you might want to hold-off on all the bragging until WinMoPho7s actually becomes a consumer product.
@JDiaz260
NO FRIGGIN DUH! Way to state the obvious! *kicks can* stupid Droids getting all the cool updates. lol
Hopefully Google will release code that is at leas compatible for the Hero or that the devs at XDA will make a foolproof update to 2.2... A guy can dream can't he?
@JDiaz260
On second thought, I might be replying to a troll account since it was created just today.
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun They all run iOS you moron, thats the point
@1mc Now maybe people will now STHU. I've heard nothing but complaining from my friends about WAHHHH Why hasn't my droid gotten 2.2 yet. I've been threatening to beat them to death with my G1 that "officially" is still stuck on 1.6. You beeches have NOTHING to complain about M'kay?
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun
I have an idea. Why don't you go away? You've been banned multiple times. Get the hint. Go away.
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun i bet u think iphone is good right cause thats the biggest lie u said since androids ugly u think ios4 wins that award
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun
Understand, I want WinMo7s to succeed on every level, but...
"whats the worst thing wp7 can be?"... Another KIN situation.
Let's Hope Not...
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun
COOL STORY, BRO.
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun Yeah its a pos. I tried one before getting an iphone and it sucked.
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun its cool man you're going to have to deal with people like yourself when w7 is released so just remember how much of a douche you are right now and expect no sympathy.
@1mc
WOO! what was considered an excellent phone half a year ago still seems excellent to me (although maybe not others...) and im still crossing my fingers for gingerbread when it comes out :)
@liftedngifted1 i wish my droid made frozen yogurt
@DaHarder
Did the troll actually mention iOS?
Nope, he was talking about Windows phone which, of course, is always available for update to the latest version? Yeah, right,
Face it, it is not in any suppliers interest to have you update our device to the latest and greatest. They'd much rather you buy a new one and, to be honest, people would much rather have a new one anyway.
Two years is the max you will get beacuse that is the normal contract duration. Maybe one more version on the Droid, 2 on the Droid X and 2. About the same as yo get from Apple but a darn sight better than any previous Win-phone version.
Of course, the root-ers and jailbreakers will make it available if you've got the time and patience but 90%+ of buyers won't and the manufacturers know it.
@techbot224 i know right, now it's a freaking old phone, i drooled over Evo 4G and Droid X... and always forgot it was just half years ago, Droid was the top phone. My goodnesss, I do believe it's a healthy competition between HTC and Moto.

Win phail 7 is a boring, boxy, closed piece of shit.
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun
One of the funniest, and most ironic, things about both you handle and attitude is that...
As much as I (personally) like WinPho7s' GUI design, at this point it appears that end users have no choice but to accept it since they won't be able to change it.
At least with Android, if you don't happen to like the GUI/home-screen, there are an infinite number of customized skins, widgets and variation one can utilized to suit their individual taste/needs... Note: my very favorite being Launcher Pro Plus, which happens to be shockingly smooth, fast, elegant, and highly customizable.
Choice... Is Good
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun no but it will have a non existent app store that is a good couple.years off the competition, wont have copy/paste (are you kidding me?), can't run 3rd part back ground task (mutitasking is on every platform including iOS), and like the other guy said isn't even out for a couple months of which all you have seen is what microsoft has been plugging internet tech blogs with. It has promise and looks interesting, but none of us know what the product or any of the hardware will consist of. Get a better arguement (or a girlfriend) and stop trolling engadget i mean come on is it really that fun
@1mc FROYO FROYO FROYO FROYO FROYO FROYO on your DROID !!
Pure WIN.
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun
You mean the ability to log into your xbox live account and see your dumb avatar? How stupid and pointless. There's one known turn based game in development and yeah, those are available for android too. There are plenty of good music players for android as well.
Yup, phail 7 is boring and dumb. Talk about ugly, just look at those monochrome boxes with a black background. In android you can change it to your liking and it varies widely depending on the phone. Phail 7 reminds me of a UI from 1998.
@JDiaz260 Ummm my HTC Legend getting 2.2 next week btw :p
@ok Android looks so ugly its fun Trollz need to eat too. So I'm going to fan the flame with a personal attack. You're gay and umm...go die in a fire. =D
iphony! vs. Droid age battle of the phones Round 1 fight!
@Mike10010100 All Hero users should email HTC Support every so often to remind them that we're still around and want our device which is just over a year and a bit old to be supported, as it was the flagship phone not too long ago.
@1mc *happy dance*
@1mc
I want my 2.2 love
It's a landslide of Froyo! Yum!
*GASP* What about my Droid X...
@wookieecrisp I'm pretty sure we'll see it next week as well.
I've been waiting for this news to come from Engadget since I heard the whispers of Aug. 6 over the interpipes!
My day has officially been made!
