Samsung confirms Galaxy S will get Froyo in September

Wondering when the Galaxy S will be getting its own cup full of Froyo, the 2.2 build that every Google handset is screaming for? Samsung promised that an update would be coming not long after release, and now courtesy of the company's official UK Twitter feed we know it's due in September. At least, Samsung is saying it's coming in September. That company has shattered our little hearts before with its broken promises, and we'd sure hate to see it happen again.

I'd be wary of this at the mo if you value GPS. Tonnes of issues with GPS and so called fixes not working for a lot of people. I suspect at least some batches of this phone have a hardware fault. I will wait until the problem become clearer

Way too long. Fail. They could easily update their own modifications (crap) later on. I want the platform releases when they are released and not 2-3 months later! GRRRRR...

Hopefully Android 3.0 will make phone makers conform to stock Android. If HTC, Motorola and Samsung want to use their UI on top then it should be done to a minimum without interfering with the update release date. Let's just hope these 2010 Android phones actually get GinBrd. (3.0)

I have a vibrant and very happy with it one of the best phones I ever used. I knew about samsungs shoddy support when I got it but even If they do not updated it to 2.2 by the end of the year. I always have Roms that work just as good if not better.

I got my galaxy S yesterday and im thinking of rooting (im new to it so dont know a lot). if I do root it, will I be able to then download this official froyo update later on or will it brick the phone?

This sucks, hugely, they'd stated it would be available this month for the Korean phone, and they're the same model as the International version, all the beta roms leaked so far have had all languages too.

Everyone was sure HTC would be later with Sens UI as it was a bigger change, but as that literally starts to roll out Samsung say they're going to take another 62 days! they're really messed up this one just as everyone thought they're were determined to 'do it right' with such a fantastic new device :(
