Best Buy to slash prices for old Xbox 360 special edition bundles tomorrow? (Update: yes)
Let's face it: despite the new Xbox 360 being joyously quieter and more efficient, the previous model still manages to seduce some of us with its sexy curves. Speaking of which -- according to Joystiq's source, Best Buy's going to kick off August by lowering the prices for the Splinter Cell: Conviction and Final Fantasy XIII previous-gen Xbox 360 bundles. For just $299 -- $50 off the current price point (and $100 off the launch price) -- you still get a copy of the corresponding game title, a 250GB HDD, and two wireless controllers. So that's gaming sorted for the summer; now put that $50 towards some cooling aid and you're good to go.
Update: and the new prices are live. Grab them while they're hot.

@TacticalTimbo
You were the first to bring it up. This was the post I meant to reply to in the first place:
"The fact is that nothing made by man is invincible and nothing he (sexism) makes ever will be. Of course I know the iPhone 4 wiped out any and all problems there might have been with the predecessor but logic doesn't account for magical goings on..oh wait!"
Surely you didn't forget?
Now come on lets try again..3..2..1. circle in the circle hole, square in the square hole...back on track now?
PS: For what its worth, I agree on a wait and see approach for the new Xbox. Their track record isn't that great when it comes to hardware reliability.
@Fishbulb2020 um check the time of post...........still not long enough, okay.............ah there you go. Remember carefully pick the hole first and then try to fit the shape through...a triangle is never going to be a square however hard you push!
They had them FREE at the Microsoft Store a while back when you purchase a PC/Laptop.
@bufbarnaby
so... not free? got it.
@Wesscoast No,,you don`t "got it" fool...was buying Asus gaming laptop for which nobody discounts so was free. Got it ?
i'm so tempted to get the ff13 bundle...but I just know in my heart of hearts that the halo reach bundle will be more worth it
and look cooler
Why is this engadget news? It just seems like these guys are starting to have an agenda and I can't understand why a gadget blog would be posting about sales?
@bxbailey
So if readers want a sweet deal on.... um... an Xbox bundle... they can get it?
You know, its actually for the benefit of the readers... crazy thought I know
@Wesscoast the outcome isn't bad it's just strange that you don't see them posting a ton of sales articles but sales of 360 game bundles seems out of place for this site. It's something you might see on cheapassgamer.com or n4g. This here seems out of place or paid for.
$299, you'd think they'd want to sneak it in below the the new S's price. I mean granted your getting an old game with it.
I've got my 360 (which i've actually reflowed in my oven) hooked up to an airport express over 5Ghz N and it XBL's pretty well. I usually use Ethernet but it wasn't possible where it is now. I'm just hoping my 360 will hold out untill I move and can get the slim one :)
@csmitty It's not just the game.. you also get 2 wireless controllers which is something you'd end up buying anyway, on top of the 250gb hdd
@sikfrk
Basically you lose WiFi and have to live with a louder less energy efficient console in return for a game and extra controller. Both the game and controller can be gotten for about $35 off amazon, though personally I am not really interested in either game so I wouldn't even think about getting one of these bundles, not to mention I need WiFi.
Here's a better deal, a flashed 360, blank DVD:DLs all for under $300.
Does anyone else believe the gradual drop in games console prices may be linked to the market giants gearing upto developing ans releasing new next generation console in the next 3-5 years - or am I simply reading too much into this? I only ask because with rumor of Playstation 4's and 'Xbox 720's, I don't want to jump in and spend my hard earned money on a console that will be outdated after just a few years. Just a simple google search pulls up plenty of rumor and speculation, for example http://www.theps4forums.com speculates new consoles may emerge as soon as 2012?
Can I safely buy a console today without the risk of having to shell out several hundreds of dollars in the not too distant future on a newer model? I'm hopeful that I'm just reading too much into this as I seem to remember both Microsoft and Sony promising 10 year life spans for their consoles respectively!
Phuk an xbox, its PS3 itches!
