PS3 firmware 3.41 said to be causing hard drive upgrade problems
The recently released PS3 firmware 3.41 seemed to just be a minor update that added a new "You May Like" section to the PlayStation Store, but it looks like it's been causing nothing but headaches for anyone trying to upgrade the hard drive in their console. As a 30-page strong thread on the official PlayStation forums reveals, folks upgrading their hard drive have been getting a "no applicable data" error after trying to install the update, which has left them with a non-working PS3 and, in some cases, a corrupted original drive. According to CVG, the issue may have something to do with a newly discovered feature of the 3.41 update that allows for more incremental patches, which might also explain why the problem only seems to be affecting PS3s where the firmware is stored in on the hard drive instead of the system's memory. As for Sony, it hasn't offered an official explanation just yet, but all indications are that it's a bug and not an intentional blocking of hard drive upgrades -- at least we hope it is. Head on past the break for a video of the problem.

40gb running good alittle dusty but good :P
I'm beginning to wonder about Sony over there, these updates are getting spottier each time they release one, I'll be waiting on the day they finally stop my PS3 60 gig from working and try and give me that legacy less piece of crap they call the new model (I think the original PS3 was the sexiest looking system ever released all sure it was big but at least it looked like a system that was capable of almost everything). Sony needs to test these things out before they brick millions of PS3's or turn off another key selling feature.
They don't care about the consumer ! ,They care about the money and protect their products to modified .I think the consumer need to make and write our own preamble of Terms of User ( consumer ) rights to be sign by Product Company, Manufacturer and Assembler before we buy something to them..
@Kian Lav lol no.
I found a way around the issue!

My problem is that the update cause me not to be able to get to the system settings. It freezes after you do a user login. So the only way to do the update is through safe mode using flash drive.
The problem isn't just with new hard drives. I have a new (6 months) slim, 80gb. It simply did the auto update when I logged in Friday night. Update ran fine and played game. Next morning when I turned it on is when the problem hit. Sony is saying it's a known problem and they are working on it.
So how does this corrupt your original PS3 drive? I'm assuming the problems comes up when trying to install 3.41 on the NEW HD.
The problem was fixed as of yesterday so I doubt I will get an answer.
