Send Google Earth for a spin with this RFID Steampunk globe (video)
Some day in the not-too-distant alternate future, when we float through the air on water pressure rather than burning jet fuel, we'll need a reliable way to circumnavigate the world -- and the descendants of John Knight will step forward with this brilliant bronzed globe. The "Electromagnetic Geospacial Globe and Remote View with Obligatory Goggles" uses Touchatag's RFID system to direct your flying boat -- just plot a course by adjusting the brass arms, uncover your digital logbook, and Google Earth will give you a more slightly more accurate look at where you next adventure lies. See it in action after the break.

That image looks like a screen shot from Myst.
@semblance Or a Wild Wild West DVD extra featurette.
Cool I guess?
@MoonWalkerCTE
This is definitely cool. Rather slow and absolutely useless, but totally awesome! It would make a perfect decoration for the lair of a stylish steampunk supervillain :-)
@MoonWalkerCTE
Exactly what I said, lol.
@MoonWalkerCTE
cool? this is freakin. awesome :-)
I got to see this first hand at the maker city fair today in detroit and its a pretty cool idea but it just has a few kinks to work out before its completely badass haha
@rtormet oh and now im definitely sad i didnt get a video to show everyone .. oh well
And now, ladies and gentlemen...I will walk to the bar on my very own two feet.
THIS will be the death of the mouse for sure.... Right?
@NiGHTS Yes. Remember, EVERYBODY wants to come home after a hard days work and wave their hands and arms around to check their email and comment on a facebook photo. Lets not forget how excited Starcraft 2 players will be to hear that Blizzard will drop mouse support in 2013 in favour of this AMAZING NEW TECHNOLOGY.
Heavy breathing
@Gibson
Sorry, it's my hayfever.
They go well with the period vinyl vertical blinds.
I've had an idea for something similar to this, and it's something I"d never do on my own. So I'm throwing it out there, maybe someone will do it:
Golden Compass. (like in the book and movie, specifically an actual golden compass) The device will point you to your desired object. It can use magnets to point the arrow. It could use gps to find out where it is in relationship to the target. It should use wifi to hide wires from an input device, like a phone or pc. It wouldn't be necessarily practical. You could use is for Geocaching, or something more mundane, like your car keys.
Or less cool, but more feasible, Colden Compass app. (this may have already been done)
Yay, let's stick pointless pieces of metal on random things and call it a meme.
