Luxurite's custom 82-inch Glass TV is just the thing for your episode of Teen Cribs
Sure it's the kind of distinction that only matters in some celeb's rented-for-the-day mansion, but Luxurite is proudly claiming to be the first company offering anything as big as its 82-inch Glass TV (42-inch pictured). So named because its glass panel front flicks from see through (for more convenient TV watching) to a mirror when it's turned off, listed specs show a 1080p resolution, 120,000:1 contrast ratio (yeah, right) and 3 HDMI inputs. Price? Don't even ask. Well-heeled UK customers looking to spice up their bathroom, wet bar or other areas can get details on how to place a custom order beyond the read link.

If you're not going to show the 82", why show any pic at all?
@krott5333 Because stories without pictures are teh suxx0r.
@krott5333
Apparently it's ok because we're not going to ask for the price anyway!
When I read the article and saw the pic, I was like..
That aint no 82 incher.
@Darkroom
I don't think a $1000 chair(it's not a cot) would be considered ghetto. And it's great for lounging. That was the point.
@uckApple My first thought was. DANG thats an out of proportion room..
@krott5333 While 82" would be SWEET for my living room, I'm holding off for 4K resolution - 1080p at 82" - REALLY? Why not just put a screen door in front of your TV? I'm all for larger screens but you need to increase the resolution for anything over 70" to look good. Other companies have prototype 80" and larger but all the ones from different manufacturers I've seen (a couple of years ago - I missed CES this year) were 4K resolution so they still looked super sharp.
@krott5333
It doubles as a mirror when turned off? Glare galore...
@uckApple
that's what she said?
@krott5333 stories with the wrong pictures are teh suxxoorrr even more
@krott5333 ...or more to the point, why get it wrong and show it as a render?... tsk
@LionPaw that is the shittiest $1000 chair I have ever seen then, for 1000 bucks I better get the most comfortable chair
Glad you clarified - I saw the headline and the image and thought "That's not 82 inches!"
Queue the "That's what she said!" responses....
Double Rainbow guy says,
"What does this MEAN"
@rmbrown09 Don't show that guy a mirror, he will freak out.
Not nearly as good as the Retina display on the iPhone 4.
@rhollon
http://xkcd.com/732/
@RincewindWiz Yeah... my old laptop got a higher resolution thand "Full HD". Wonders me why movies with such a crappy resolution (PAL/NTSC) look "good" while your eyes start bleeding considering playing a game in VGA or something like that :/
@rhollon
Well the fact of the matter is it scales.
You will notice the high resolution on your phone because you hold it so close to your eyes. Do you think you would notice if your TV had the same pixel density and you sat across the room? The same thing applies with your laptop screen, you sit close to it so the pixel count is high. I'm sure some arses like you think you have better eyes than an average person.
So how much is this beast?
"don't even ask" ?
Well I'm asking.
I want, I don't care the price (not that I'm buying :P ).
@plwh888
I always find that a brick works best for smashing shop windows
...just saying :-)
That's some amazing 'shopping of the reflection on the screen there...
@unfunk
agreed.
@unfunk
Well the entire thing is a render, so it's not exactly misplaced,
@DougieBear So was your last comma.
If it's a professional render of a TV, I would assume the reflection coming off of the item for sale would at least be correct.
Sweet house though!
Wow, it takes what sucked about plasma TV's and charges you extra for it. (glare)
Engadget, so u write an article with a misleading picture, question the credibility of the source of the article you're writing about ("120,000:1 contrast ratio (yeah, right)), and then tell us to supposedly not ask us for information that u don't even know? I mean comon at least say that u don't know the price don't tell is not to ask... Sometimes it's better to not even write an article.
@jsuh Sorry, I didn't realize you might actually need one for your upcoming appearance on Teen Cribs.
1. Show us the REAL pic of an 82-incher
2. Tell us the price of it
@biosushi
There are neither. read the fking source.
@Arl Karl Seconded.
@Arl Karl
read Fking source and i still would like to know the price and pics Ahole
@SirDubs That's different, @biosushi seemed to be bitching at Engadget, but it's a custom service which almost always won't tell you what the cost is.
As the next generation in Tv size is materializing to 80" as normal standard, 1080p resolution is no longer impressive compared to the cutting edge of next generation detail, and am sure the leaders and tech innovators are working on 4096p resolution for 80" tvs.
@Romi12 There is no way that 80" will be the worldwide standard, people simply don't have lounges/TV rooms that are big enough to have a TV that size in them without looking ridiculous.
@d0mth0ma5 That doesn't stop the idiots in my neighborhood from buying 55" bottom of the line TVs to fit in their 6x8 living room mounting them on the wall and having wires sticking out both sides of the tv and pretending its sweet cause its 55". Usually hung an inch from the ceiling too so you can stare up at it like you are in the front row at a movie theater.
Waiting for the picture @ebay showing someone in the reflection (a celeb? :o) in underpants photographing it :)
Which
Testifies
Who cares about the television? That Knoll Barcelona chair and textile combination is sexy!
@Mirrfiak
chair has a face only a mother could love, i dont care that its a $1000 chair, it looks like somthing i would find at my local goodwill
@SirDubs *$5000+/-
@Mirrfiak
I'll take a samsung 55in 9000 series and the floor instead lol
i want to know the price ......
Bad render is bad...
The Gloss TV?
Seriously, this thing + white walls = terrible reflectivity.
At least bother to do a correct reflection. They just cropped a portion of the picture and pasted it onto the screen. That makes me a little wary about how much attention they put into building the television.
Mine does that too; it's a plasma. Detractors call it "glare" but I enjoy my mirror mode
This is about the tenth time I've seen a product use this trick of turning from a mirror into a TV and I still don't get it.
The last place I want a TV is the bathroom
The last place I want a mirror is anywhere but the bathroom
Why would it be a good thing to have a 50 inch mirror in my living room with all the chairs facing it. That would be spooky at best, and mostly just annoying.
This is one of those very cool but basically useless ideas IMO.
