Official: iPhone 4 jailbreak hits from iPhone Dev Team (updated with video)
Update: Sorry folks, we've tried repeatedly, but apparently the servers just can't handle the load -- Comex tweets that the purple screens we're seeing are evidence of server fail. Here's hoping for a Cydia celebration when the stampede is over.
Update 2: Comex says you might want to reboot if you got stuck staring at that purple screen, and you could also try their backup server (click our second source link) to help the Dev Team divide the load.
Update 3: We successfully got the jailbreak to start working, but it crashed Safari. Upon reboot of our phone we've got... nothing but the Apple logo. Take note, this can brick your phone, so proceed with caution! Video of the experience after the break. After a reset, our phone is giving us nothing but the Apple logo. (Update to the update, the phone has been restored).
Update 4: Our intern Sam has successfully jailbroken his iPhone 4 according to this pic, so it can be done!
Update 5: Comex reports that iPads running iOS 3.2.1 aren't presently working properly, and that MMS problems after jailbreak are a known issue.
Update 6: Good news? Saurik (of Cydia fame) has pitched in to secure JailbreakMe some better hosting. Bad news? Reports indicate that FaceTime doesn't work after jailbreak, either.
Update 7: Seven updates? You bet, because it's looking like there's already a fix for the missing FaceTime and MMS features. Head on over to Redmond Pie (in more coverage below) for instructions to install the Cydia package that brought video chat back to two of our iPhone 4 handsets. If you're just downloading JailbreakMe for the first time though, you shouldn't need to do a thing, as Comex claims both have been fixed in a new version of the hack that just went live.

@Spiky haired boy
Just read the most recent comments, including my own, and you'll notice that everyone is having issues with the iPhone 4.
I couldn't get much to work at all... Only the GBA Emulator...
I'm guessing that the Cydia servers might be getting bombarded because of this release and/or a lot of apps need to be updated to be compatible with iPhone 4.
Has anybody else experienced endless reboot after installing? like it works perfectly, cydia installs but if i try to restart my phone afterwards it will not turn on.. any solutions to this?
Anyone else having issues accessing thee Camer Roll? Or am I solo on this one...
1) if jailbroken can I receive updates for apps and still buy off of app store
2) if I plug iPhone into pc and run iTunes like normal will everything run normal or should I not do this?
@Brich10
Yes u can update the apps you bought from the app store and yes u can use iTunes normally but do not do a update when apple releases one until dev team say it's ok cuz it can mess up your phone if u install a new apple update
I had no interest in jailbreaking until - AFTER YEARS OF WAITING - ATT provided tethering - through "bluetooth"?!!!??? (you're not going to share that phone with your iPad or Kindle - LULZ!) Androids users get to create shared tethered Wifi with their carriers, but that's a sin in the eyes of Apple-ATT.
Watch me fix this in 5 minutes.
"Oh noes! What if you voidey your warranty!" Says Apple.
Watch me restore if I have problems Apple - watch me.
I am amazed at how drastically my signal bar display has changed since upgrading to ios4 on my 3GS. Significantly fewer bars everywhere and constant fluctuation. Anyone else experiencing this?
FREEEEEDDDDDOOOMMMMMM!
Took a while, wouldn't work but my iP4 was only running 4.0.
Checked other sites and it looks like it requires 4.0.1. So I updated through iTunes and instead of jailbreak... I got jailbricked! Just got the USB to iTunes screen on my phone, tried to restore 4 times to no avail.
Checked Apple support sites (I was getting that cannot restore error (9) code), seems there is a glitch in the restore/update process and someone suggested TinyUmbrella to use the 'Kick out of Recovery Mode' function. Once I did that, iTunes was able to restore my phone and not only did it restore all my apps, pics and content but it was running 4.0.1. Seems like it updated it then bricked it, so once I kicked it out of that loop, it recovered.
Went to the site... Get Out of Jail Free card in under 2 minutes. Cydia was already loaded, updated it and boom shaka laka... free at last... free at last!
So... uh... what's the best Tether app out there in the free world?
@BigNerd, MyWi is the best. iP4 version costs $19.99. Well worth the money if you ask me. Load up Rock from Cydia. From Rock, you can install MyWi for a free 10-day trial. Or, go to www.rockyourphone.com for more info.
@Gibberish
Thanks... I'll check it out. I hear it does USB tethering too... I'm not too keen on setting up my iPhone as a WiFi hub.
Also... a friend was able to free his 3GS running 4.0 so maybe 4.0.1 isn't a requirement... my phone was just wonky.
So fun to be a escaped convict... thanks for file in the cake Comex!
@BigNerd
Help! I wanted to erase everything and start over due to cydia issues yesterday. I erased all content and restored to factory settings via the function under general on the iPhone and now it won't restart at all! It's stuck on the apple startup logo with some discolored pixels on the top. It doesn't show up in iTunes, it doesn't do anything. God please help! I have a double shift coming up and I'll need this or else I'll die of boredom! What is this tinyumbrella?
I can get the phone to turn off and restart but all it does is show me the apple screen. At first all the pixels are fine, and then near the top row a bunch of pixels in a line are discolored. And that's all it does. I've been iPwned!
Whew, ok I seemed to have fixed it. I had to put it in DFU mode for iTunes to recognize it. Now I'm restoring. Crossing my fingers...
Does this work with 3.1.3?
I posted earlier about MyWi not working on my jailbroken iPhone 4; while it did work on my Macbook Pro it would not on my Sony Z11 laptop. It was a Network Adapter driver issue. I clicked the update driver button in Device Manager, and although it said I had the latest driver it was not true. Here is a reply I made to someone who found the solution:
"Thanks! MyWi 4 now works on my iPhone 4 both wirelessly and USB! I googled the driver name found in Device Manager/Network Adapters. I found one more updated than the one I had:
http://www.userdrivers.com/Notebook-Tablet-PC/Intel-Centrino-Advanced-N-6200-AGN-Wireless-LAN-Driver-13-1-1-1-for-Windows-7-64-bit/download/
I downloaded and installed. I was pulling my hair out because clicking on the "Update Driver" button said I had the most updated driver but it was not true. Now I am wondering how many other drivers on my system should be updated the same way.
Thank you so much."
Hope this helps.
Is anyone else having problems sending Picture Messages after the jailbreak? I can send texts but no photos. :(

Foxit welcomes all PDF Reader users to download the latest version of the Foxit Reader 4.1.1 which addresses and resolves the issues related to the jailbreak hack.
I did this on my iPad wi-fi and my wi-fi signal indicator in the corner is gone but I'm still connected and all the services that gather my location don't work. Like maps and Twitter can no longer use my location.
