CBS and Hulu in talks about shows on Plus service, says broadcaster's CEO
CBS has been doing a good job testing the waters of its online content -- and has even promised to have HTML5-supported episodes this Fall season. All the while, however, it's remained one of the last broadcast holdouts against offering content to the Hulu empire. Now, CBS chief Les Moonves says new Hulu Plus subscription service has interested the broadcaster enough to open talks with the video service. Don't get your hopes up, though, as discussions won't necessarily lead to anything and it's not necessarily your only option for legally streaming the channel online. Still, feel free to fancy a converged queue of episodes from across the networks. Why, that'd be awesome times awesome. That'd be awesome squared.

I haven;t watched cbs since the old csi days
A potentially bad precedent for shows being exclusively on Plus.
Currently, the Plus service is absolutely WORTHLESS. Until all Hulu shows and stations are available on all devices (seriously - why does it matter if I have a device running Windows or iOS?), and until Plus includes AT LEAST the current full season of all shows, I don't care.
As it stands, Hulu Plus has a fraction of the streaming content you get on Netflix - and the stuff they DO have is already available on Netflix anyway. Why would you pay twice - and why would you pay more for less on Hulu? It's a sham.
@Veraxus
The difference is that Hulu Plus has content that comes out immediately, whereas Netflix is based on the DVD model where you don't get the television content until their respective DVDs are released.
Hulu Plus still sucks. You have to pay $10/month just for the privilege of watching Hulu on your iPad or iPhone and you only get a tiny library. That's just bullshit.
Alan Thicke ftw. Baddest motha' around.
I wish Hulu had more competition and providers were more willing to let other sites host their content. All of the contracts and deals are really hurting customers. There should just be a flat fee the show gets for each playing of a show (either from ads or subscription pay w/o ads).
Hulu Desktop hasn't been working for me lately in OSX...
How can I trust CBS to put shows on Hulu when they can't even update their OWN site...
As someone who got his Hulu Plus invite a few days ago, I would love for this to happen.
love the screen capture, robin sparkles ftw!
Ha! Robin Sparkles & Alan Thicke. This screen cap is LEGEN... wait for it...

@pizzamousechips Hey, let's go to the mall, everyone!

Be prepared people. Hulu will eventually have a fee attached to watch all videos, and literally nothing will be free. If CBS tries to get all their shows under Hulu Plus, or more than just the older ones than other stations will follow suit and the whole service will be paid.
Here's the deal: I pay about $70 for one cable box from my cable provider and a basic selection of channels. I'm not paying another $10 for a DVR and I'm not paying another $10 for Hulu Plus. If you want to give me a standard def version of any show I want with standard length advertising where commercials would normally go, I'll sit through them and watch them and contribute to your ad revenue, but I'm not paying for TV content after I already pay a shit load for cable. It's not happening.
@kenny goo It's really for people willing to give up their cable service. I mean, the theory is Hulu Plus would get new shows the moment they are aired, and be able to show all the older episodes as well. I could see a combination of that and Netflix being a decent replacement for cable - a bit more limited, but a LOT cheaper.
@Dreamwriter
Until Netflix and Hulu can connect to every TV in my house by simply turning them on then this is of no use to me.
@Dreamwriter I completely agree! Whats funny about all of this is by Hulu creating a paying service they are doing exactly what they did not want to happen with companies like Boxee coming around. They are making cable obsolete.
Ugh i hate les moonves and hate that even july plus previews cost money but html5 is a huge deal
@Nintendoftl july=hulu
Droid x keyboard=embarrassing
No Engadget, that would be Awesome-X! I wonder, does that make Hulu Killface's latest endeavor?
I don't watch CBS online cuz they're not closed captioned. Come on over to Hulu and get captioned!
@Deaf
You should watch fansubbed anime instead of CBS programming. CC is shoddy in the US, take it from someone who can hear what they are actually saying vs what is captioned. Subtitles take a backseat in the US with the exception of video games, ESPECIALLY from Valve (their subs and captions for everything are amazing).
I wish I was a Canadian teen pop star.
@friendlysays lMBO!!!
Comcast made a deal with CBS recently as well so they can have their shows on Fancast (and get other shows that were missing form OnDemand like The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother).
I was talking w/ a CBS employee at a downtown San Diego bar one evening during this year's Comic Con, and when I said "Oh, are CBS shows not on Hulu?", I saw the fire and pain in her eyes.
Not paying for it, only to have to see ads on top , not going to happen
I miss the days of Stage6.
They need to bring Hulu to the UK :(
They need to bring Hulu to the UK :(
I can agree this isn't to bad of an idea, but 10$ a month on top of my netflix, balls! :(
