EVO 4G starts getting Android 2.2 update over the air
We've just gotten a deluge of tips that EVO 4Gs are starting to get blessed with the official update to Froyo -- a few hours prior to the promised August 3 rollout -- so if you've got one handy, you're going to want to start checking it right this second. Seriously, now that it's got a trick flashlight app included in ROM, what could you possibly be waiting for? On a related note, if you happened to apply that early update that HTC posted and pulled late last week, the company's working on a fix so that you aren't out of the over-the-air update loop and promises to "get back" in "the coming days."

I got it done. I already miss the keyboard hide button. It seems more snappy though.
@tjs721
The KB hide button was one of the things that the stock KB had going for it. Also, arrow keys. I wish swype would incorporate both of these features.
nothing in NJ yet but was able to get Fridays...
WEEEEEE!!!!, DL in progress!!,all you trolls and Flamers, have a crap sandwich while i watch Flash on my phone...the Future is Grand Y'all!!!
@MaxPower You can finally watch YouTube now! Cool
im not getting it how come?
Is there a zip of this one anywhere? So I can just manually update over the previous one that Engadget claimed was this?
@everyone does

@AndroidMatt I've seen this won't work -- any truth to that?
@AndroidMatt That's old. I have the .3 version, and the OTA version that people are getting now is .6, I think.
@Tumbleweed He posted the .6 version. I'm just not sure if it'll overwrite the .3 that I installed over the weekend.
@CmdrKeene
There is an error when manually trying to update it. Sad day.
Damn my impatience!
@DG4FREE HTC said on Twitter that they will release a specific patch for those who upgraded on the early version so you can get back on the official release
The evo i love you
Just finished my upgrade! Got a 31.6 on Linpack! Love live EVO.
Installed with Shapewriter still in tact!!
This requires a new review over EVO 4G!
enjoying froyo, now how do u do use da bluetooth voice dialing feature?
Installing at the moment, I'm super impressed at how fast HTC and sprint got it out to us, I mean Froyo has only been final for like a month or so. When HTC said the second half of the year, I assumed it meant somewhere before Christmas, not the beginning of August.
Any of you evo/xda fans know if this is going to speed up the development of Android on the evo's grand daddy, the HD2? since they both share almost exactly the same chipsets.
The HD2 still rocks!!
Wow its so smooth and responsive
EVO ftw
anyone else get the little android guy with a exclamation mark inside a triangle when froyo started unzipping??
@Alternet
dont remember, i was too excited
@masterchief10
well it didn't actually install froyo .. it just stopped me there .. waited like 5 minutes and realized that's not supposed to happen..
resetting to factory settings and redownloading 2.2 :O
@Alternet have the same problem. is yours working yet ??
@KAKIN BEASTY
sadly no :( .. i shall be taking it in tmrw
i tried doing a hard reset (powering on while holding the down key and then selecting clear storage)
and i also tried formatting my memory card (fat32 of course) and neither seemed to work :( ..
hopefully they'll be able to fix this at the store tmrw.
@Alternet
I get this too, any luck solving?
@Mitchellhart
actually yes .. i got it :D i am enjoying my froyo
you need to use simple root first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720565
and then unroot using this guide
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-roms-hacks/19278-how-unroot-return-stock.html
worked like a charm.. went from unrevoked3 back to normal
WOOT
@Alternet
Great! Thanks for the help, I'm going to give it a shot now (on a mac).
@Alternet any luck at the sprint store? cant get mine to work !
@KAKIN BEASTY
I didn't have to go the sprint store cause i fixed the issue myself... i rooted my phone for 2 days and i just reverted it back to factory settings by doing the steps i said above.
@Alternet simple root is for windows . i use mac
Thanx Guys!!! Downloading now. EVO RULES!!!
Dammit, where is mine
Droid x
@local44
No kidding. I hate the whole "late summer" shit. Give me a freakin date
Thanks Engadget for getting me to apply the first update, now im screwed out of the real update.
You owe me a new Evo.
@Jordus have you tried manually applying the fresh update?
@Jordus
did you even read the post?
" if you happened to apply that early update that HTC posted and pulled late last week, the company's working on a fix so that you aren't out of the over-the-air update loop and promises to "get back" in "the coming days."
@Jordus I'm with you on that man. Total suck. I hope we can get the official update sooner rather than later. I thought it was just a manual update of the official release. Bummer. Hopefully we'll get the official release in the next few days like HTC's tweet said we would.
Downloadnig now, I'm stoked!!!
56% baby!
Because the new jailbreak for the iPhone allows froyo on it.
Working guys now what ;)
Got 2.2 up and running.
Thank you HTC!
Watching an install progress bar has never been this riveting.
@tinye I agree! ;-)
@KSantiago Me too!
Is it just me or does anyone else's browser not load all the way and crash when it's a flash site?
@SCB
Just you.
