@FauxReal Will this work if I installed the .3 version that went up here ever so briefly? I did that, and everything except my 2nd gmail notifications work.
@Goon Dude I won't ever use any batteries that are not OEM. Check out http://batteryboss.org/ , you'll be shocked. But yes, I am getting about 6 hours of usage (Screen on--Using apps, browsing web) plus 20+ hours of standby (Phone off, but Gmail push on) with this update. If that's not very good I don't know what is.
You see, I love both operating systems for what they are. Fragmentation is a good thing. This means the hardware designer can choose which version of the software is the best for their phone, and they can customize it and add in their own enhancements. Do you really want Flash on a G1?
Also, Gingerbread (3.0) will have hardware requirements, so your days of trolling will soon be gone.
WP7 is great too though, nothing like taking the time to build something from the ground up (instead of updating WinMo6) and making it so much more efficient and refreshing.
@FauxReal I moved from Palm Pre (webOS) to EVO (Android) in June. If you don't keep up, i leave you. simple consumer concept. LOVE my EVO. it's a candy bar i love waking up next to.
So forget the flashlight app, and SD card storage, and the performance enhancements...
THE #1 most useful feature of froyo: rotation to landscape-right as well as landscape-left. FINALLY!!! Now I can use the thing when it's on its leash (charger) without having to contorted my body. Well, okay, so the battery is supposed last A LOT longer on froyo, and so far so good. The battery meter hasn't seemed to budge since my upgrade almost two hours ago! Yeehaw!!
Just waiting for root now, and I'll be a happy friggin camper!
Hey everyone! Lets all point and laugh at TXCraig, for being the troll of the year.
"As a far as Android 2.2 running on this phone.... I will bet anyone on here that phone will NOT be updated this year. From what I have read, this phone is LOCKED DOWN BY SPRINT and even if HTC releases a version of 2.2 to run on it, Sprint has to "approve" it and you know how long that might take.... especially if 2.2 lets you turn the device into a WiFi hot spot WITHOUT paying for tethering...."
@John Doe Wow, what crawled up his bum? Sorry though, the troll of the year award is tied between "ok old news again" (and his possibly dozens of banned accounts,) a Microsoft fanboy who not only thinks his word is fact, also seems to believe that Windows Phone 7 is superior to everything else, even though nobody can even have it yet.
The other contender is "BrookLynnsFinest" (who has many banned accounts as well,) who sees evil Android fandroids out to get him wherever he goes, and everyone's immense dislike of him has nothing to do with how he treats other people unless they agree completely with him.
"HatedOne" would be in the running as well, but he only gets an "honorable" mention as he has become incredibly boring and apparently runs his posts through Translation Party before submitting them.
Seems like an update to the Evo review would be in order, since it's no longer relevant with this major software release. iPhones get reviewed on every major release. Just sayin'
@ok old news again There are really only 2 smartphone os's worth mentioning, ios and android, so yah you could call android the ugliest, but it's not like there's 30 that are less ugly than it, just ios, and the media player I've never seen on incredible at home, or on videos, or stock media player on either of those, so I have no idea, the iPhone hands down has the best media player of anything anywhere, obviously, and I guess music is not as big a deal with android, we just use pandora on our incredible, what an ignorant comment, I say this as an iPhone user cause it was a blind statement that meant nothing
@FauxReal there are reports that the update breaks the "Granting up to 3 wishes" feature. It's refusing to grant an iPhone 4 wish. It's returning "Useless wish" error. Can anybody please confirm?
Fortunately for non-iphone users we can replace standard batteries that don't last very long with extended batteries that last much longer. I just bought the seidio extended evo battery and I have been able to go more than 24 hours without a charge. It may even go more than 48 hours without a charge. This battery is a monster and now I truly have a perfect phone
3) Holding the home button now shows 8 apps for fast switching instead of 6
4) Flash in the browser - Despite selecting "on demand' for enabling plugins in the settings, when you tap on 1 green arrow to enable Flash, it doesn't just enable what you tapped on, but all Flash on the page you're viewing. Not great for pages with 4 or 5 ads in addition to a video. PLEASE change this Google/HTC.
Also, Flash viewing works great, takes about 1-2 seconds of stuttering, but after that it's super smooth. I did notice that viewing Flash in the Dolphin HD browser was not as smooth, only in the default Internet browser was it consistently crisp. You can tap the full screen and volume buttons in videos, but because they're small, it requires zooming in before a finger can tap the little icons.
I randomly tried comedy central to view my first Flash video on my EVO and was greeted with quite possibly the greatest promo video I've ever seen... featuring David Hasselhoff.
@Jdoc2 Really!?! I sooo can't wait to switch to the Evo now. My shitty iPhone 4 only lasts about two days before I need to charge it again. I'm so sick of not being tied to a charger..... Android save me!!!
@deedeedee If I'm. On the phone then I don't need to be surfing the internet. If this I really all the iPhone can do over android then I will laugh at every iPhone owner
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Thank you.
FroYo for all plz!
@FauxReal I will start downloading froyo as soon as I'm done printing gas money
LONG LIVE EVO!
Ive been running the pre-release 2.2 version for a few days and let me tell you something: Evo owners, get ready for amazing battery life.
@FauxReal
Will this work if I installed the .3 version that went up here ever so briefly? I did that, and everything except my 2nd gmail notifications work.
@FauxReal Evo DOES!
@FauxReal WOOOOOO!!!!!!! Installing it now. Thank goodness!
@liftedngifted1 I guess I'll have to have my phone fly me back to the mainland now. I don't get 4G on the island it built me :(
@FauxReal
Great!
Now bring it to Australia, I want some gorgeous 4.3 inch HTC action, without the pain of WinMo.
@Wjackson25
It probably won't live long. It will be replace with something superior quickly, and HTC isn't known for making quality hardware.
@Jdoc2 My battery life is doing poorly. :( Maybe I should go back to the stock though... I have a feeling the Seidio one is a dud.
@ok old news again God you're back again. Will you ever stop? Seriously, go get laid, or something.
@Goon Dude I won't ever use any batteries that are not OEM. Check out http://batteryboss.org/ , you'll be shocked.

@geniusdog254 Unless you can find some Wi-Fi and download it that way
@geniusdog254
Icecream or FroYo? I'll have some FroYo please! EVO FTW FTW FTW!
@ok old news again
I'd like to see WP7 run on a 400MHZ processor.
Oh wait.
Android, on the other hand...
You see, I love both operating systems for what they are. Fragmentation is a good thing. This means the hardware designer can choose which version of the software is the best for their phone, and they can customize it and add in their own enhancements. Do you really want Flash on a G1?

@FauxReal heeeeeellllllllll yyyyeeeaaaahhhhh
@FauxReal
The best phone out just got even better. I didn't know it was possible for my phone to be even faster. HTC trumps all.
@The Dark Knight
FroYo's healthier too!
@FauxReal
Let the countdown to the Evo 4G Froyo root begin!
@FauxReal I moved from Palm Pre (webOS) to EVO (Android) in June. If you don't keep up, i leave you. simple consumer concept. LOVE my EVO. it's a candy bar i love waking up next to.
@OCJP
Bring on the tablets,,, flash works f*cking GREAT!!!!
@liftedngifted1
Print me some too!
So forget the flashlight app, and SD card storage, and the performance enhancements...

@thaprinze I think the root came out a couple of days ago.

@AndroidFanBoy
Word has it that HTC is already working on a fix for this, due some time in the next or or so. ;)
@AndroidIsTheWorstOSEver
What are you saying exactly?
@ok old news again

@AndroidIsTheWorstOSEver
ban forever please.
Omg, what a loser. Froyo owns your ass.
@FauxReal oh my god. I got it.
@Jdoc2 I did notice some improvements. I carry an extra battery around and since Friday i never had to swap it.
@ok old news again I'm still waiting for update on my sexus1
@Dafrety
You forgot jack. He will argue to the bitter end on how Apple is the most perfect machine out there hands down.
Installed the update to FroYo and a few things I've noticed besides what's already been announced for those who are curious...
1) keyboard is now multitouch enabled. checked it myself and everything.
2) ChromeToPhone works great. Tested with the Firefox add-on and my EVO. Engadget posted about it a while ago...
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/31/how-to-push-chrome-firefox-links-to-your-android-2-2-froyo-de/

Nothing's HOFFlimits! You're welcome.
@thaprinze
I believe it's already out there. I thought I saw it on XDA-Developers early this morning.
