@tehslax It would be false advertisement. People would be wondering were all those cool apps and features went when they buy their own and take it home.
@tehslax i did this actually, since i have an apple retailer at college and also a store on my way to college, and i also set the homepage to jailbreakme.com, so they can be jailbroken time and time again.
sadly, apple wipes every iDevice and macbooks on display via a remote server, so this only lasts for about a day.
@The Geek Now everyone just have to realize how big this IOS security hole is. a web site is easily allowed root access to the phone.... Just great, isn't it?
Apple once again show they're a toy maker. I feel sorry for companies who's actually rolled these out as business phones.
I'm going to my local store this Thursday if my bumper hasn't arrived yet. Seems to be lost in Illinois. I'm gonna jailbreak an iPhone or 2 there and record it on my jailbroken iPhone 4.
@YimYimYimi I've always wondered what would happen if you took a SIM card from one of the stores phones....then you could use it in your phone/ipad and get free data/everything. probably be better for the 3g ipads as they are 3g capable in the store, and you could switch the ipad that came with your ipad...and the one in the store would still work because they are always just connected to wifi....maybe test that out! haha
In 2010, a crack team of iPhone hackers was removed from an Apple Store for crime that Apple says they committed. They promptly escaped to the local Best Buy where they survive as soldiers of Library of Congress-sanctioned fortune.
@YimYimYimi If you're going to the Apple store in woodfield I'm down! I need to have them look at my macbook battery, but I'm all for jailbreaking some phones!
You mean now that you're not a jailbreak virgin? Try SBSettings for statusbar-swipe 3G/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/etc. toggles, and it also includes Activator (access through Settings app) which lets you assign shortcuts, which I'm using to toggle flashlight if you hold the sleep button briefly. I also use Scrobbl for real-time Last.fm scrobbling (my favorite jailbreak feature). Some things need updating.
@andyroo77 RockApp is a must. Licensing, package management, and speed make it better than Cydia. Besides that, the essentials are SBSettings, LockInfo or IntelliScreen, MyWi, My3G, and iRealSMS. On a 3GS or iPhone 4, you might add WinterBoard (theming) to the list, but the 3G grinds to a halt. Unfortunately, nearly every one of those apps costs money, but they are all very very worth it.
Other ones I like, but wouldn't consider essentials are Elert, qTweeter, Five Icon Dock, and Popup Blocker. OpenSSH too, if you plan on getting more involved in theming.
@Almo Yes, they are, but I have never, nor will I ever steal an app. I'm a developer myself (though even if I wasn't, I have standards), and to use someone's hard work without supporting them is downright rotten. I have downloaded a cracked app before, but only because I was having issues transferring the license to a new device and the developer was non-responsive. So many people equate jailbreaking with piracy, and that's something I want to see stop.
@andyroo77 Firewall-IP! Great app! Only $3 or something, let's YOU decide what traffic to allow out. Thinknads, apps that call home, stats tracking etc.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
would be hilarious and wrong if all the phones at an apple store had cydia on em.
@tehslax Now that it's easy to do it's only a matter of time before someone does it to all of them in at least one store...
@MrFluffyThing
It's probably no worse than those people who leave porn on the macbooks for others to find.
... Actually, for an Apple store serverbot, it's probably much worse.
@tehslax
It would be false advertisement. People would be wondering were all those cool apps and features went when they buy their own and take it home.
@MrFluffyThing
You can jailbreak with out having to use a pc/mac? That's awesome.
@Plazmic Flame - jailbreakme.com will set you free...
@tehslax i did this actually, since i have an apple retailer at college and also a store on my way to college, and i also set the homepage to jailbreakme.com, so they can be jailbroken time and time again.

@MRCUR
I... am... free....... awesome.
@MrFluffyThing
did this today. a few ipads and ipods have cydia.
@sk8rkid117
Then you won't be changing things much.
@sk8rkid117

@MrFluffyThing I've already done it. Installed the Windows theme too. XD
I've done this before...and got removed from the store.
@FauxReal Damn get owned
@FauxReal
How? If you were only able to do it through the browser with this new jailbreak?
@TechSavvy
Employee walked behind me at the store.
@TechSavvy Back in the days of 1.1.1 you could jailbreak from jailbreakme.com
@Higher Up
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh.
@Higher Up beat me to it
@FauxReal that's why it's good to be 6'5".......
@dingle19

hahahaha it had to happen eventually.
I'm going to my local store this Thursday if my bumper hasn't arrived yet. Seems to be lost in Illinois. I'm gonna jailbreak an iPhone or 2 there and record it on my jailbroken iPhone 4.
@YimYimYimi I've gotta assemble a team. 5 people. We strike in 72 hours...
@YimYimYimi I've always wondered what would happen if you took a SIM card from one of the stores phones....then you could use it in your phone/ipad and get free data/everything. probably be better for the 3g ipads as they are 3g capable in the store, and you could switch the ipad that came with your ipad...and the one in the store would still work because they are always just connected to wifi....maybe test that out! haha
@usammon Cya on the news
@usammon - Yeah, good luck with that.
@usammon
Until they look up what serial# is using their SIM, Send the police to your current location and remote Brick your phone.
@Testies Testies 12 3 haha I'd never do it....but I still wonder how long it'd take them to figure it out....hmmmm any takers?
@usammon The sim card slots are super glued together and sometimes melted.
@YimYimYimi

@CptnDriveThru Coming august 2010 to a theater near you
@YimYimYimi If you're going to the Apple store in woodfield I'm down! I need to have them look at my macbook battery, but I'm all for jailbreaking some phones!
I really want to try it out. Too bad the closest Apple Store is 140 miles away.
@Maxipad
It would be worth the trip.
That's probably going to be a headache for the employees
I'm soooo doing this with my hipster friends.
So now I'm a jailbreak virgin, what's good to get on Cydia?
@andyroo77
Download rock app much easier to use for New jailbreakers. And welcome to the club!
@andyroo77

@andyroo77
Backgrounder
SBSettings - there are a ton of add ons to this. From rotate inhibitor to volume, etc.
ProSwitcher
those are the ones I use the most. I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

@greatbam
Have you gotten proswitcher to work? I get a safe mode loop.
@clarinetJWD
All jb apps can be gotten cracked for free if you know where to look. ;-)
