HTC Sync 3.0 for Wildfire hands-on: iTunes sync tested (video)
Good news for Wildfire owners: fresh from HTC's oven is its 3.0 desktop sync suite that -- like the one baked for the Desire over the weekend -- enables iTunes sync for the company's latest budget device. Since we had a Wildfire on hand, we decided to go through the trouble to check out this new feature. And boy, it sure was a bumpy start. We had no problems with obtaining the software, but in order to get the "HTC Sync" option to appear in the USB connection menu, we had to switch on USB debugging mode (Settings -> Applications -> Development) before establishing our first link. As fiddly as it sounds, this was actually the only tricky part of the preparation, and you can leave debugging mode switched off afterwards.
So, how does the iTunes sync work? Well, it's certainly nowhere as thrilling as Palm's cheeky hack -- it appears to simply access iTunes' database and playlists for the file locations, rather than fooling iTunes into thinking your Wildfire's an iDevice. You'll also be limited to syncing either everything or just selected playlists (smart playlists supported), so in other words, you can't sync by artists or genres, and you'll have to set up a dedicated playlist for syncing podcasts. Apart from this minor flaw, we'd say this is still a pretty neat solution for an age-old problem, and hopefully HTC will offer a similar app for Mac users. Hands-on video after the break.

@dontbecreepy
NOPE!!!! I checked
Mac OS X please
Dont need any of this..Tunesync wireless syncs my itunes playlist every time i turn on wireless on my phone. Its speedy and no fiddling needed. granted i hate ITUNES but since its the only wireless option for my Evo ill deal with it.
Please, PLEASE, get rid of iTunes on the pc. 6... SIX services, startup options, Bonjour, MobileMe and Safari down your throat at each update..... All just to get apps and music onto a phone.
Does anyone know if we can synchronise the personal library of Spotify with HTC Sync 3.0 ? I
Can't they just do what Phillips did and enter a deal with Songbird or some other company.
I use Winamp to sync tunes with my phone. Its a bit buggy but it does the trick. Better than DoubleTwist IMO.
Why in gods name would you still be using iTunes if you didn't have an iPhone or an iPod??
I mean not only is it the worst music software around, but it tries to tie you into its formats and locks and every corner.
Yuck
@InnocentEd It's not horrible software, it's incredible software, best media player and music manager ever, but it runs like molasses on windows sub-win 7 and sub Mac specs on win 7, but on a Mac it runs like butter, AND has great features, windows it still has the great features but windows sucks unless it's on my Mac comparable win 7 mini tower
Why arent they trying to figure out a way to get Android devices to sync with Zune software....it blows iTunes out of the water
@pbooker117 Ha!
I think most people agree
Though I have an EVO HTC is not apple . Sense is an awful theme manager . HTC should leave software development to Google or independent software developers.
Where's ma HTC Desire version...
Still no mac support making my android phone even less of a good all in one device
What a great looking piece of software. I wish I could have this on Mac OS X + HTC Desire on Sprint... that would be a dream setup.
Geez, every time people outside of Apple tried this iTunes sync stunt, Jobs will shove another 100MB patch down our throat. I'm not sure to tell which side the stop.
Friends from Taiwan, iTunes is junk. Some of us are stuck there because of DRM on old purchases. Have mercy.
Smart implementation! While not as cool as the palm hack, this method ensures future compatibility. For the record I'm an iPhone user, so this doesn't affect me. However, I use apps, like streamtome and orb, that access the iTunes library in the same manner it works quite well. I only sync using playlists and smart playlists within folders anyway. iTunes allows you to effortlessly create the playlists and now Android users can benefit. This is great news!
I don't get all the fuss about iTunes...i mean, c'mon, how many of you use it for playing media??almost no one...you just use it to sync your iDevices because, and here's the kicker, it does it pretty good. It syncs your songs and indexes them for spotlight(think about it, if you would drag and drop them, indexing would take place on the device), it syncs your photos in a respectable manner, movies, books and so on...this is one flaw of android: lack of organized media.
Personally, i prefer to tell itunes what to put on my device rather than copying files on my device and wondering where to put them, eventually create some folders for rudimentary organisation and so on and so forth
Does this sync playcount back and forth?
I would expect XDA developers to have this hacked and working on all current Android phones inside a month or two.
where can I get that dock station???
