Kindle 2 gets more game, Kindle 1 gets more wrinkles
Sure, Jeff Bezos may be keen on keeping Kindle a "purpose-built reading device" (for now, at any rate), but that doesn't mean you can't have a little multimedia fun, right? Amazon has published two diction-centric games, Shuffled Row and Every Word, free of charge and available now for delivery via Whispernet. Both involve word creation -- the former with 60 disposable letters and the latter with six or seven reusable tiles à la Scramble -- and neither seem to be available for the Kindle 1. Second-generation and DX owners seem to be playing without issue, but the most faithful of early adopters? You just got another reason to upgrade -- a minor one, yes, but it very well could be a sign of Things to Come.

w00t games on a grayscale screen! with plasticky buttons to boot! reminds me of my handheld tetris game way back when...

I must be dyslexic, I read
"Kindle gets 2 more game, Kindle gets 1 more wrinkles"
ouch.

Nintendo Game & Watch it's a classic!

Tetris is far, far better.
Seems to be unavailable to Canadians.
ALRIGHT!! Who spilled the russian energy drink on the hot tub again?
Got dammit. Were back to the 1940's.
Ohh wait. Is the amazon kindl.. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Wow, the Kindle is taking a lot of notes from the Nook's book. Amazon taking the Nook seriously as a competitor can only be good for anyone buying an e-reader. Unless they're buying from Sony, anyway.
@Rather Dashing
Well it seems that Amazon is in it to win right now. And with the 3rd gen Kindle having a mic more good things could be on the way.
I havent tried the newest kindle, but i this is as intense as any kindle game is going to get because the screen is just too slow.

I wish there was a touchscreen model of the kindle it's what holds me back from buying one.
I haven't tried a kindle, because I'm just too slow, but these games are clearly intense!
Haha, I have that game (in the picture), on my Zune HD right now. The COLORS are fantastic. But no, the Kindle is a good eReader. I can't consider purchasing one though. I would rather get a tablet, with a Kindle app.
@Grubasaurus Rex: Just this week, I've been comparing the iPad against my Kindle. I'd have to be nuts to go with the iPad for reading - the backlight hurts my eyes after 30 minutes of reading. YMMV, but I suggest playing with your devices of choice before buying one or the other.
@galfridus73 I did the same thing and I find the iPad to be far better. I find my eyes are strained from looking at the screen when little light is available. iPad backlight goes extremely low and doesn't bother me a bit. In fact, I read on it everyday, visiting these sites and such.

Obviously, this is not the reason to buy an e-reader, but having word games like this or crosswords or Boggle and other games like Sudoku, Chess, Solitaire are a nice bonus for when you want to take a break from an intense chapter of a novel.
Now, if only I could read .epub books on a Kindle, I'd put an order in today.
Well, with its growing user base and the will to continue its development this thing might become "silently and secretly" a real iPad alternative in the future, step by step without pretending it actually. At the end we've still just an "humble ebook reader" with a fast color paper like display and some added functionality unlike the iPad which is criticized for the lack of some functions. Everything the Kindle gets is a bonus, while everything the iPad misses is a "disaster" ...
Hypercard…? Is that you?
All I want in my e-reader is the ability to display books for me to read, and access to a large easy to access library. Sadly people will continue to ask for games and other fluff and multimedia features, and Amazon and other companies will most likely provide them. Kobo has the right idea with their design IMO, but sadly the other companies price drops have pretty much killed its chances for market share IMO.
Interactive fiction.
That's all I want game-wise on the Kindle.
It's a no-brainer: Infocom worked on all those interactive fiction titles in the 1980s and the vast majority of them were text-only. This is an easy one for Blizzard Activision (they own Infocom's assets at this point) and Amazon... and I can't see why it isn't happening.
I want "Zork" and "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe" text adventure on my Kindle... this shouldn't be difficult!
I don't get it. Why aren't I getting only 9 hours of battery life while burning my retinas trying to read for more than 1 hour? And another thing, why don't the muscles in my arms start to burn with lactic acid build up while reading on my back? It just doesn't make sense!!
@lerxst Well, you're just all against Apple, huh? My retinas don't burn from an hours worth of reading, nor do my weak and feeble arms hurt from reading on my back. Lol, if that's all you got, I'll add problems to your list, because, oh boy, do you have plenty of them.
@lerxst Oh, and one more thing, my iPad get 14 hours of reading time in. So, is your next argument, "I read for more then half of the day, Apple has to do better than that"?
