Game Gripper makes grand entrance on Nokia's N900 (video)
Say what you will about Nokia's strategy (or lack thereof), but there's no denying that the N900 is one capable gaming machine. Thus, it makes perfect sense for the blokes at Game Gripper to mold a controller specifically for that very handset, no? We've already spent a fair amount far too much time with our made-for-Droid edition, and if you're looking to boost your enjoyment level when playing NES ROMs, you can toss your pre-order in this very second. The company's offering the complete Game Gripper N900 for €14.95 ($20), or the button set alone for €3.95 ($5), with initial shipments expected in around a fortnight. Head on past the break for a taste of that aforementioned Mario action.

its a me, emulator
@EnergyPigeon
Ugh
Why do people always do this?
Is there anything the n900 can't do :D
@TheCake Drop calls..
@TheCake make mario run?
Ordered :D
@darkshine
Congrats!
What colour?
I couldn't help but notice the 4-action buttons could be set up to display the Windows Logo.

Left: original (Nintendo style) configuration and the "Windows style" on the right.
@Kangal Xbox - I'll reconfig them to look like the eu-style SNES gamepads :D
I bet the iphone does that too.
Oh it doesn't?
@Cynical Hippie ummm ....

I don't own an iPhone and I know about this ...
@Federaly
With an accessory like that my iPhone would be near perfect for me.
@Federaly
I was under the impression that none of those are actually commercially available yet though.
And the last I heard from iControlPad, Apple had patented their design and they were trying to get a lawyer :(
@Cynical Hippie
While i do think those are pretty cool.
Both employ electronics and connections.
Certainly not going to be $20
And with R&D costs, I'd assume $75 and up.
Tis a great idea, I wish I would have thought of it. I bought two(sold one) for my Droid :D
N900 is amazing for the emulator use so for that price i might just get that.
When I first heard of the one for Droid, I said I would buy it if they ever made it for N900. It sounds perfect for all the wonderful emulators.
From words to action I guess :)
@Rev
And.. Ordered.
I had one when I had a droid, and my main beef with it was that it would keep slipping off.
Any chance of an N97/mini version? That has SNES/NES/GBA/Megadrive action too ya know.
This is awesome! And I will even forgive Darren for flaunting his myopic tendencies. Seems bloggers know all about corporate long term strategy these days.
Make an Epic 4G version!!!!!
It would be epic!!!
@haas599 That would be HUGELY epic! Especially considering the EVO doesn't have a hardware keyboard. If GameGripper could do that, they have a whole NEW market!
@haas599 we are trying to get GameGrip made for the Epic 4G! You need to request the phone version specically!
http://sites.google.com/site/gamegripper/other-phones/request-form
@haas599
Been there, done that.
I got a bunch of people on Android Central furoms to request it aswell. Keep spreading the word!
I never understood why people keep insisting on shoehorning games designed for buttons onto touchscreen-only devices.
@Elranzer That phone has a keyboard.
webOS needs one as it is infinately gameable and the upcoming 1.4.5 update enable accelerated 3d as well as easy IOS ports! I'd buy 3 for my pre!
This is excellent! I have a concern, though: would the keypad be durable enough to withstand the constant pounding of a set of 'gamepad' keys?
I personally would prefer a phone agnostic controller that could be attached to any handset, used bluetooth, and would work with the wide array of smartphones OSs that feature capable emulators and have bluetooth support (Symbian, jailbroken iOS4, Android, Maemo, etc). Does such an item exist?
For example, this would be great for GalaxyS/HD2 as they run the PSX emulators quite well, as well as all of the other greats (Genesis, Snes, GameBoy, GameBoy Advanced).
Galaxy S PSX4Droid:

The HTC HD2 runs PSX games like a champ thanks to the optimized fpsece 0.10 PSX emulator:

Here's hoping the excellent fpsece is ported to other platforms (if it hasn't been already).
@MagnetMan
I think that defeats the whole purpose of mobile gaming actually.
@MagnetMan
N900 has bluetooth drivers for both Wiimote & PS3 controller, but they are a bit too big to drag around, but they aren't very "attachable".
Great for turning the N900 into a simple console though if you connect it to TV.
@HKCally
Game Boy classic games are more fun than games on iphone or other touch phones. Thanks to proper controls.
@Rev
I agree. Not only are they too big, but they also require that you rest the n900 down while you play, which is not ideal in mobile situations. However, I believe a simple, small, universal bluetooth gamepad that attaches to any phone could be easily made.
@Rev I can say that using the DualShock 3 controller with n900 has too much lag. I can't play Super Mario World with it at all.
should work fine with n64 emu, hopefully..
Pretty good idea!
Damn, that makes me want to get a slider now. Sweet idea.
N900+any OS=BEAST
after almost a year the N900 is still getting support
that's really good now for nokia to HURRY up with firmware updates
i want PR1.3
night MEOW
There aren't many decent games on any platform other than iOS.Only microsoft can change that.crapia no matter how hard they try will still remain crapia.
@hell hound
Well the great part of N900 that comes from it being all full linux is that Maemo have had from the start all the emulators and some more.
That's what this game gripper is afterall all about.
@hell hound
when iphone can play MAME let me knwo until then shut up
Nice hands, chubby.
This gamegrip will be absolutely amazing on the Epic 4G! If you wanna see it made for the Epic, please fill out the request form on GameGrips website!

Any one remember the LG Versa?
I'll pick one up when they make one for the EPIC 4G
I'd like to see a video of someone doing a shoryuken with this. I don't think it would effectively work exactly as a gamepad.
As an owner of a n900, I'd love to see it working and I'd be more than happy to buy it. Why wouldn't you ship it to Brazil or even to the USA?
That's awesome. :o
In for 1! Don't really play street fighter on my n900, but would love to play SuperC, mario world and batman returns with a nice d-pad.
ill take your word on the conversion rate because im too lazy to look it up: "Game Gripper N900 for €14.95 ($20)." But why would you buy it for that price when they also sell it directly for $14.99USD? lol. unless i found a fake site or something, here is the link... http://www.home.game-gripper.com/buy/n900
You can also try and do it yourself :p
http://wiki.github.com/keesj/push_nbutton/
failing that the Game Gripper looks booth simple and effective.
