Droid X update to Android 2.2 coming 'by early September'
A Motorola support forum response about issues involving Exchange 2003 email problems on the Droid X has actually yielded something far more juicy: an updated window for the Froyo upgrade's release. Promised since the phone's initial launch, Moto's now saying that the new build is "scheduled for deployment by early September," so barring a miracle, we can probably toss out those dreams of getting it by late August -- and we can certainly forget the rumors that it had already started going out. Clearly we'd like it sooner rather than later, but hey, if they're hard at work squashing bugs as we speak, more power to 'em -- we're all for stable releases.

@JonnyB
Motorola needs to work on more accurate update windows. Yes, we understand that you'd like to update our phones as much as we'd like you to, but you don't have to lie to us to get our hopes up.
@JonnyB Well, I guess they really did stretch "late summer".
@JonnyB
Why do they continue to ship android devices with OLD software? Froyo isn't even available for most of them yet, and already they're talking about how awesome Gingerbread is! Maybe sometime in 2011 every android will have Froyo, but then there will be 10 new ones that they say will get Gingerbread... in a few months! It never ends, this crap.
@bravokiloromeo no kidding man. I'm tired of them pushing back my Cliq update
@JonnyB
Lol ketchup.
@lol android is so ugly
Try using one. It puts the iPhone 4 to shame.
@AJ10
Don't bother. He's a troll and a fanboy for a product that doesn't exist yet.
@lol android is so ugly
i suggest if you buy phones for looks only go with iphone
it clear you dont want phones with the best hardware out right now
@JonnyB
Wtf is this BS. SEPTEMBER really? Really?
@lol android is so ugly
For the look of the average WP7 app, go search...oh wait.
@lol android is so ugly
Dumbass troll aha ahhhhhh go under a bridge and stfu
@lol android is so ugly
It looks better than a WinPhone 7 that isnt even created yet.
@lol android is so ugly
It's metal and if it doesn't fit in your pocket, you're probably a 10 year old kid.
I believe Google is switching to yearly releases after Gingerbread, so there should be less worry about updates.
@AJ10 I've used my friends X for a couple hours.. very nice phone, Android is really amazing. However, I believe one good reason why i like iOS, is that everyone (except devices not supported) get the updates at the same time (idk what's up with the iPad and iOS4).. You could say that you could root your phone, however, many people such as your average consumer, wouldn't know how to do what. Each OS has it's pros and cons.. so idk if I would say it puts the iPhone 4 to shame, more like it gives it a run for its money..

Again apps like taskiller are better than apps that aren't even created yet. Oh and another thing you are a moron and a fanboy of a product that wont be released for another few months and wont even have simple features that most feature phones have. No copy/paste and no multitasking give me a break.
@einhanderkiller
Still pisses me off that my droid won't get any any updates after this week's 2.2 update (saying moto doesn't push THAT one back as well) my droid won't get any more updates. A phone is completly not supported 10 months after its launch. I like progress, but I dont like getting left in the dust less than 1 year.
@lol android is so ugly
"do no" Who's the stupid one now? Dumbass
@lol android is so ugly Hey, did you hear they sell more "fugly bricks" than magical, and revolutionary iPhones?
@lol android is so ugly
have you even tried to put one in your pocket? Better yet have you even held one? I'm sorry but your comment makes you look like a moron.
@lol android is so ugly
Do you really have no life, if you want to write drivel that no-one will read then go create a myspace page or something.
Or go to Gizmodo, they let anyone in nowadays.
I used to hate you, and all that you stood for, but now I pity you. You're not even the tramp on the street that I give spare change too, you're the religious nut that I shout back at and tell to go put on some pants.
No one wants you here, you're not the be all and the end all of trolldom, go away.
Arguing on the internet is like racing in the special olympics...

how old are you? if you are older than 15 i am very worried. I am sure your mom is too because you haven't left her basement in two months.

@AJ10 i wouldn't say it puts it to shame. in fact i think the iphone is a better experience overall. the UI is brilliant, fast, simple and slick. i like android just fine but if were gonna jump iOS ship i'd go with the evo. its the only phone imo that actually gives the iphone a run for its money. the lack of a front cam, crap main cam, efuse, blur UI, lesser screen quality (not in size) and a less then awesome build are enough things to rank the droidx down imo.

"you act like you can only get function or form. just because android is the ugliest OS out there doesnt mean its the most functional, it isnt. the facebook app for example has less options than the counterpart on iphone."
>implying Android phones can't get the full featured Facebook experience via web browser.
@4u2nv
Ignore the idiot you morons or he'll just keep posting. Re-tards like him are immune to logic and reason. He would rather keep hitting himself in face while he mashes his keyboard.
@JonnyB
what's worse is that we don't need moto or vz's updates. They create more bugs than they fix. They should unlock the bootloader already.
what's going to happen when they decide its an end of life device in 12 months (or less)?
@lol android is so ugly
Not everyone is gay and walks around wearing skinny jeans. Fits just fine in my man sized pants.

Neither does your beloved win phone 7 and i am not the one that is taking time out of my day to post some nonsense on every android post this site had made. Then you get banned and make up some other kindergarten name so you can do it again, and im incredible stupid
I think not sir. Becoming a fanboy on a product that hasn't even come out yet and talking like its the end all be all is" incredibly stupid" my comments don't get downranked into oblivion cause i actually respect others opinions and likes.
@JonnyB
I like android. I like google. I love the competition for Apple.
But you know what day I got my os upgrade on my 1 yrld 3GS? The day it came out.
Imagine a day when MS releases a service pack and HP says "I'm sorry. You can't have that yet. Your 6 month old pavillion isnt capable yet. Please wait"
Moto, if you wanna compete, pick up the pace!
@kruger4gamecocks
You do realize Google only released Android 2.2 to developers around mid-June. That's not nearly enough time to test it on your hardware to make sure everything works, at least not hardware that was being sold last month, and still get something bug free on the market to compete with the Evo and iPhone4 that were already released and making sales.
@Apples2Oranges
You have a valid point. In Google's defense, it is beyond them if and when the manufacturer updates their phone. Apple enjoys the luxury of controlling their hardware and software. Google did it with the N1 and got froyo out right away.
People will always complain. We either have to few updates or too many. IMO give us as many updates as possible and let the manufacturers figure out if they will update.
@Clevernamehere Because the updates were already out for the device.... Likewise if you bought a device that is currently on 2.1 but it came with 2 by default, when you turn it on it'd flash up for the update. Think things through a bit more..
@bob1000 Which android phone has out sold any iPhone? Oh wait... None of them? Stfu with your invented nonsense
@fpad77
I've read your post 4 times and don't understand what you're saying. The reason i got my update is because it was already available? before the update... date? huh?
If I bought a device that isn't updated then it would update when I turn it on? Yeah that makes sense. What is your point? The Droid X isn't doing this. The update is there but it's not flashing when you turn it on because Moto doesn't support it yet...
You tell me to think things through but you obviously didn't think your post through.
By all means though if you can explain that'd be awesome. I'm up for intelligent debate.
I'm going to go has cheeseburger now though. Me head hurt.
Finally, Now where is my Nexus Two?
@Cainhunpi
Ask Google, not Motorola.
@bravokiloromeo
You mean ask google to ask moto
@Cainhunpi I second that as I want a Nexus Two, but really this is the wrong article for that isn't it?
@JXCGunrunna
The Nexus One was made by HTC. Why the hell would you ask Motorola?
@bravokiloromeo
Rumor has it that Moto will be the company releasing the Nexus Two.
@plyx Say goodbye to the sleekness of the officially branded Google phone and hello to the industrial bad ass styled Google phone. Either way it's made Google will make sure it's amazing before it's released, no matter who makes it.
Very good news!
I'm very happy with Froyo on my Evo
@arboreal snowman Why would you root for the demise of another of your Android brethren? You do know that the sooner we get all the phones on the most reason Android release then developers will jump on board and create some great apps, right? I have no idea why people with Android phones root for others to not get updates.
@angermeans
Maybe arboreal snowman is happy that Droid X owners are eventually going to get the update and not being facetious.
@arboreal snowman I have maybe 2 complaints with the update and they are tiny; I love the new taskswitcher's look but it portrait mode, when you select something, the icon does this funky disappearing thing unlike in landscape and 2. This may be just me, but the exelorometer seem really sensitive now, I sometimes have to shake my phone to get it back in portrait.
@angermeans
In what way am I rooting for the demise of my other "android brethren"?
You're reading into things way too much...
@arboreal snowman he's right, why would you be happy about another device's update getting delayed. Sounds like hating to me.
Not a big deal... I can wait. The X is already awesome enough.
I do hope there is some kind of fix for it's wi-fi issues... NOT happy about that at all.
