BS there not squashing any potential bugs just trying to milk us for all were worth with the droid x before releasing the droid 2.Then they release the droid 2 get some sales than release the froyo update and get more sales on the droid x. JUST YOUR TYPICAL CORPORATE BS
That is why I bought a nexu one, I refuse to buy an android phone with a custom UI on it because of the slow updates.
@marcw I feel the same way, but the Nexus might be your last phone cause it doesn't look like another is coming and the OEMs will continue to skin Android.

The N1 gets updates quickly because it's Google's phone. Every other phone, whether it has a custom skin or not, will have to wait months to get the update because the manufacturers like to take their time...
Could be a lot worse. My Droid X rules and it will rule over x9000 when it gets a taste of Froyo. Good things come to those who wait.
Not to mention that with the previously stated "Late Summer" time frame, it's still technically on time.
I was considering selling my pre plus and buying a devour(ebay), but then I found out it's still running 1.6...thanks to blur no doubt.
Here we go with the bullshit.....they stretched it and took forever to put it on the droid and now they've pushed it from mid august to early sept.....fuckin bullshit!!!!!
Stupid VZ and their typical crap, how about the Incredible huh? We are still waiting to be able to hear people on the other end of the call. I didnt know i had to take a court recorders class to decypher calls that you only hear every third word of the other person.

Hmm gotss it on my EVO. The update was ready at midnight the 3rd, on the dot.
Evo and droid x are awesome. Played with an X today beside my evo. I like the screen ratio on the evo better but the scalloped back on the X is badass. HTCs and MOTOs ui overlays need to go. Android is beautiful on these hyper phones.
@AlexDeLarge I love how they're all plastic and get all scratched up... And who cares that froyo is a sub standard operating system... At least it's open to theme any way I want without jailbreaking!
If we learned anything from "Nexus One coming soon to Verizon!", what this really means is on September 14th at 7 PM EST, Verizon will announce that, instead of bringing Froyo to the Droid X, they will instead introduce a new HTC handset with similar features to the Droid X that will come with Froyo pre-installed that will quickly fall into shortage due to high demand, only to be downlplayed and replaced by the Droid X2.
Possibly september 2011 you know for sure it's not going to happen in september! When has the 3 companies been on the same page
It definitely looks like HTC and Sprint got their act together and delivered 2.2 on time with EVO users. Why Motorola and Verizon couldn't do the same is anyone's guess. The worst part of this is, the original Droid is running stock Android and it's STILL late to the 2.2 party (the official OTA at least) We've heard absolutely nothing about the Incredible. It's like HTC and Verizon totally forgot they offer that phone. It's a shame because the Incredible was the best phone you could get on Verizon until the DroidX came out and is one of the best Android phones you can buy.
What a load of crap. i'm getting so tired of motorola not having at thir act together when it comes to updates. here we have the droid x, a brand new phone that was promised 2.1 shortly after release. instead droid and droid 2 and the nexus one, and incredible all get it before the x? are these the first signs that ninja blurs actully inhibiting the droid x? Shame.

It's probably not Motorola, it's Verizon. Look at the Incredible.
I bet you 2.2 was done for the Droid awhile ago but they held off on it because they didn't want the Droid having a newer version of android then the Droid X.

@Shooter McGavin Forgive me if this sounds stupid, do you think the Motorola delays are due to the 854x480 screen size difference? I really don't know, but that could explain why other phones are getting love first.

@JAG how is droid x faster than the evo when its the same processor and speed? Lol evo has front facing camera the x does not, evo has 2.2, the x does not, evo has 4g capabilities, the x does not, so apparently it is the x owners who always get suckered by verizon that are jealous lol so stfu
idk bout most of you but the droid X is awwwwesome!! at first when i heard 4.3 inch screen i was like wow this is retarted its huuuge and dumb. well i recently jailbroke my ipod and got android on it and started looooving it. now my mom just got i droid X and DAAAMNN itz AWWERSOMEE!! thescreen is amaaazing!! the 4.3 inch looks pimpawesome. i dont kno what you could hate about that phone from a guy thats all apple. (and yes i live with mom and dad cause im 14). so umm yeah any of u fake haters, pike one up with an open mind.

Way to go Droid X users! Been running 2.2 on the Evo since this weekend and am thoroughly enjoying it. Once you experience JIT, you will never go back. All apps load instantly now. Being able to use ChromeToPhone is also great.
I can honestly say that I hate the iphone mostly because of it's fanboys and how they act, plus all the stuff Apple restricts and does to it's customers.
Google you are my love!

Funny you should say that... I still haven't been able to update my 3G to iOS4 because iTunes is a POS and every time it gets to a certain point in the download it freezes and I have to start over again. Not to mention, ever since the last update, my visual voicemail is tweaking and I can't even listen to any of my messages.
If you Droido is so awesome there is no need.

The competition between Apple/Google and Rim(kinda) with Microsoft approaching is awesome for everyone. Being an apple fan, it will make sure they keep making things better. Plus, as Google gets bigger and bigger...the most important thing is that windows, rim and everyone else succeeds. IF google dominates and it turns in Windows of old..it just means crap for everyone. Lets all hope the competition stays fierce!!!
My HD2 got it. 28 Linpack and a 1350 quadrant. Smooth as silk.

Maybe im beating a dead horse hear, but i just want flash. Html5 is a bastard that steve jobs dreamed up when he realized he shot himself in the foot with adobe. I mean, I love my droid x (typing this response from it), but it's just nuts that a new phone can't get the new software. Everybody needs to quit making anything but top of the line phones. No entry levelers like the lowly cliq because it can't support 2.2 much less 2.1. Release newer, more powerful handsets the same time a new os comes out. I hate to say it, but apple definitely has it easy, seeing as how they only have to develop an os for roughly four phones and ipad makes five. While android powers around 20 or more devices...and that's just in the us. Maybe it sounds like communistic ramblings, but it would work.

this phone is si ygly and android makes it uglier, wp7 will definitelly win allot marketshare, why?, because 90% of the people who want to buy a phone only looks at how goodlooking the phone and the UI is, many people dont even know what multitasking is and don't even care thst there is only 1 way to install your apps. only hardcore phone users do care and that is the 10%

2010, the smartphone era.
Hopefully this fixes the GPS bug that is draining the DX battery. By keeping GPS off I was able to go from 6 hours of battery life to 15. Still not great by any means, but it's something.

I was hoping a bit sooner, but you never know. It doesn't say September it says by September. Perhaps I am an optimist, but the way I see it it could be between now and then.

Ok, all of you waiting for an update... I'm still waiting for my phone! First, Verizon's website said it will be shipped by 8/19, and now it's saying by 8/23! Me sad. :(
I'd sure like them to hurry with froyo also. The more froyo that's out the better for all of us to enjoy. I know the X and EVO practically have the same specs but would like to see a benchmark test versus the two. Just curious which will perform better. (frm EVO)
