Mutewatch aims to be a less watch-like watch
Watches that try do something really different aren't exactly all that common, but you can certainly say that about the just-announced Mutewatch. Described as a "silent alarm in the shape of a vibrating wristband," the watch features a hidden screen that activates on touch and lets you swipe to scroll between the timer, clock and alarm -- the latter of which simply vibrates rather than making a sound, and can be dismissed by pinching the watch. Best of all, this isn't simply a concept -- you can secure a pre-order for your choice of a white, gray or red watch now for €19, which will be deducted from the full €199 (or about $260) price when it eventually ships.

link is dead. but cool concept
@Sepirioth ... I try do link.
@Sepirioth It is not working for me yet
Error establishing a database connection
@Sepirioth
Use Google's cache for now: http://j.mp/aedj54
@Sepirioth
Error establishing a databa... err wait
Error establishing a dead link .
Ohh yeah !
@Sepirioth great now, you're in the next SSB?! who else is gonna "kill link" next? *roll eyes*
@revlayle
huh?
@Sepirioth
It's not dead...it's a mutesite.
@Sepirioth
I got in once. I think too much traffic from different sites are causing the DB to go nuts.
@Sepirioth
Did engadget's link kill their server's? If it has well done. It shows power
@Sepirioth Was the link fixed or are you guys all just using computers? I was just gone for an hour so maybe it was dead 45 minutes ago and fixed now? Anyways, cool idea/reality
@Sepirioth This looks good, but it's certainly not better than the iPhone, or android...yadda yadda typical gadget comparisons
@That guy 2
lol, yeah surprised peeps aren't going that route (which would be typical as you see some of the weirdass replies there ARE here). but its a watch. I kinda like it but want to see how it looks WITH the time on it too. depending on the size i think I'm gonna get one.
nevermind, link worked the third time trying. poor hosting i guess :)
@Sepirioth
I'm getting "Error establishing a database connection" every time.
@Sepirioth They're just not expecting any serious traffic...
@screasey
Cant even see the watch "in action" though. I was actually tempted depending on how it looks. Now ill probably jsut forget about it by the time the site works. Shame
So it's an adult toy? You have to pinch it to stop vibrating. -_-'
I have to see video of this thing in action.
Great, yet another girl-repellent. I’m sorry, but with my bad looks, my bad luck, my crummy job and my bleak prospects, I just don't need a watch that screams "court appointed monitoring".
@MisterWarmth LOL, dead on. This thing just needs an annoying blinking LED on it to complete the "house arrest" look.
@MisterWarmth - How about one like Leela's that says, "Wash your wrist once in awhile."
@magusxxx Haha futurama! I had no idea so many people watched that! I used to watch it every day 2008
@MisterWarmth
LOL
Coco by Chanel
Mutewatch by Lindsay Lohan.
@MisterWarmth Sir, you seem to have missed the obvious point that girls tend to chose the a-hole by default.
What ?19 euros for a watch without a screen?
@4004
It has a screen and that's just the down payment.
@4004 your off by a bit 19 euros is to place a preorder the price of the watch is 199 euros.
@FrostByte32 well, I prefer just glass to see hands moving
@danhawk911 yep, my mistake
If this could be BT linked to a phone, I think it'd be even cooler. As it is, if it has enough rumble on the alarm, it would be nice to have that on my arm and not have to wake the wife up when my alarm goes off.
Nice concept would like to see it in action and maybe something that didn't look so plasticy.
Best of all I can give people who I don't know money for a concept which may never see the light of day! Sign me up!
@aiiee This isn't a concept, it's a full product you can buy right now, read the article r-tard (yes I said r-tard :)
Hrrm. I bought one of these for 1/10th the price - though not nearly as hipsterish...
http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/bluetooth-bracelet-with-vibration-and-lcd-display/
@MrScottFletcher
...Except that isn't a watch.
for that price ill just get an iphone 4 and duct tape it to my wrist. it won't look like a watch, i can make it vibrate for an alarm and i can play some angry birds.
watches are dead. they need to reinvent it as in making them into a wearable cellphones or something like the LG one but that was HUGE. perhaps a watch with cam for a bluetooth facetime over 4G goodness.
@(Unverified)
Watches are far from dead - I for one do not want to constantly need to pull my phone out of my pocket to see the time, and there are many situations where one is unable or not allowed to have a cell-phone (or a cell-pone watch for that matter) such as exams, hospitals, swimming, during take-off and landing etc. etc.
Why do I have a huge urge to buy this
@Console fanboy i agree. im not even sure why. but for some reason i really want one.
the only logic i can comee up with is that its "so" different than any other watch ive ever seen, that it just might be a conversation type time piece. plus its tech and i like that
@kchase731 My watch opens for some cool conversations

I used to be in a cubicle like that!
Yeah, my watch talked too much.
I'd like a deafwatch, too.
The Helen Keller of watches.
....so wait....it's a watch that doesn't show you what time it is?
@TCrimson05
there is a touch screen that you can slide between time, stop watch, etc
@TCrimson05
haha, you'd hate to not read the writing underneath the picture that tells you about it
Am I the only one who read "Mutemath"?
@Friko
Typical (wink)
Vibrating wrist band? More like....well, let's just say I can think of other uses for it ;)
