Epic win.
I think it's apparent that iDontPhone users are so desperate for antennas, err, I mean ATTention, that they resort to acting like an annoying little teeny bopper and do something as moronic as this... again. So, Engadget, are you going to run this "breaking news" every time it happens? Such earth-shattering news this is! Some kid walks into a store and visits a website! OMGWTFRLY? Cool story, bro!
I also find it funny how Appholes always have something bad to say when Android is mentioned, yet don't have much to say about the rivals pairing up, literally, and accomplishing something together! Shocking!
Android phone? Check
Portable wifi hotspot app? Check
Sticking it to Apple on their own turf? Check.
Hell Yaaaaaa.....
"There is no news. There is only the truth of the signal.... You can't stop the signal, Mal. Everything goes somewhere, and I go everywhere."
@recharged95 I was really hoping they'd do a second season instead of a movie that finishes it all up. :\
Whats better yet...I used my jailbroken iPhone 4, with MyWi to create a mobile hotspot...then jailbroke some iPhones in a local Apple store
;-)
@Special K Whats best..... I used my rooted droid X to create a mobile hotspot using the root hotspot app (instead of the official 10$ a month verizon one) used jailbreak me on the apple store iphone and installed winterboard and put a complete theme of steve jobs sucking it! Then I waited outside and when someone told the genius bar the guy was sooooo pissed. He was gonna kill someone. LMFAO
Can someone explain why they're not using 3g on the iphones?
@Nintendoftl Save Batt life.
@LaredoHK but for real...
Damned griefers. The employees are going to have to reset every iDevice that you jailbreak them.
Jailbreak your own device. Apple doesn't mind jailbreaking nearly as much as Motorola does, so go ahead. Just don't do it to the store's devices.
bestbuy has blocked them too. i tried yesterday :)
This is just plain stupid. I'm all for jailbreaking (if the user wants) but the only thing this accomplishes is that some store employee has to sit around an extra hour resetting jailbroken devices. Good job, pranksters.
@kopmis I can practically see the no-lifes running to the stores, fighting the war for the good of the people! In the great devastation to humanity that is... locked down cellphones. *que epic Coldplay music*
It would have been more awesome if his Nexus One was on AT&T.
@coolman13355 Oh yes! With an iPhone data plan hack ahahah
@coolman13355 lol....good one....I'm afraid it would've taken longer die to nexus one only working on tmobile's 3g....I would've been caught for sure
@coolman13355 not sure why I spelled it die...I meant time :) typo
For being an apple "fanboy"(all I have is an iPhone, that's it so i dont know if ima fanboy if I mess with blackberries and good androids haha), I love the nexus one. Hahaha
I'm upset that Apple's going to release an update pretty soon to fix this. If all goes well, when Apple feels a sigh of relief, someone is going to jailbreak the new update, have a similar super easy method, and there's gonna be this whole Apple Store jailbroken iPhone/iPad/iTouch "virus" again :-D
Not to sound like an old fuddy duddy, but what does this accomplish? OK, we can easily jailbreak the iPhone, big deal. We've been doing it since the original iPhone. It's like everyone is a gizmodo writer or something.
Get off my lawn!
My jailbroken iPod touch won't sync with iTunes :(
I feel this is just wrong. These people do not have permission to jailbreak the iPhones, iPad's etc. that are in these stores.
@SpeedGun
It is wrong. But I feel it is right.
I don't think you're covered by the new jailbreaking law on this one, you get caught and they have the right to prosecute you for destruction of property. The law only protects you if you own the property. Keep that in mind while you do childish things like these
@Mr Deux Thanks mom...
@mcaldero That was really funny. You're such a funny guy. You should do stand up. Hahaha what funny guy.
@Mr Deux
*ahem*
umad?
Can we please just stop with the "my phone is better because bla bla bla" cmon its just a phone, and this video proves that both sides can work together =)
I want rootmyandroid.com ..
This is unacceptable. Why because a law passed that it was LEGAL to Unlock for any Carrier & to Jailbreak our smartphone & still companies are acting like this is ILLEGAL. Its not ILLEGAL anymore & companies need to start following the law. They need to be warned if they dont start following it they will be given a fine. You can no longer say it VOIDs your warranty if you do these things cuz its legal.
So the Library of Congress makes it legal and Apple circumvents the law again and gets away with it?
@DDRobert
They made it legal to jailbreak your own device. As far as I'm aware, the ruling didn't give you the legal right to walk up to anyone with an iPhone and jailbreak their device without their permission. You don't have a legal right to jailbreak a phone that is the property of an Apple store. Contrary to your assertions Apple are in no way circumventing any laws by blocking jailbreakme.com.
I should also point out that the recent ruling only applies to the US. Contrary to your personal perception, a whole world exists outside the US's borders. And that world is not bound by US law.
Public schooling fails yet again.
im sorry... whats the point in doing this again? are people really that bored?
@AFdizzle I'm not sure if anyone forced you to watch this...but if not...the question is what was the point of watching it and commenting on it?
Well.....first thank you all for the comments. Second, for those who were complaining about the song...I wasn't really thinking about it, I was more excited about posting it ASAP, hence I grabbed the first song and I just dumped it there. I was reading the comments and someone was wondering where were the Bestbuy's employees.... believe it or not at least 2 of them walked by and never even thought about what I was doing. Regardless, I should still note that I was FRICKIN NERVOUS.....but hey.....you some times take risks :)
Glad you enjoyed it
@itgeek2010 nice job, and fyi i loved the song. and i know what u mean, doing stuff like that makes you so nervous! anyway nice job
nexus one FTW
This jailbreak messed up my iPod touch. All my apps and music was deleted. I have to start from scratch again.
Couldn't you just use the 3G connection to jailbreak?
@Massive Poop no....since this wasn't the 3g version. Furthermore AT&T might've blocked the website from their network....just a guess
best buy = owned.. haha lmao
If Apple just sold the phone unlocked I would have no need to jailbreak it
@beersurfing
Its not as much about sending apple a message as it is a funny little thing that's started occurring within these stores. If a message is being sent to apple, its not a hateful one, its one saying that they have phones with massive security holes that they need to fix (if any website can just access your phone's root because they all have the same root pass, then its a giant security problem which could easily kill tons of phones if the website had malicious intent). I, for one, plan to do this just to see the reactions of customers, shocked by the phone's new usability.
It is rather absurd that anyone would really believe Apple or BestBuy would care that a bunch of tweeners are going to a website and jailbreaking an iOS. Why would anyone? If I was 12 I could not help but try it out - but I would not think it was dangerous. It is not a crime - just an annoyance to the employees of the stores who restore the devices. Of course you can get to a block website with your own 3G WiFi access. How much did that cost you and what did it prove? Everyone knows you can do it - what was it exactly that was being proved?
Ok, so they've blocked it from WiFi. What's to stop people from just disconnecting from the WiFi and using the 3g Data on the iPhones?
Well I know what I'm doing on my way home.
Rooted Droid X + Barnacle Wi-Fi Tether FTW!
