ASUS' EeeBox EB1501P leaks out with Atom D525, Ion GPU
We're still waiting on leaked (or official, we're not partial) images to confirm, but based on a presentation slide and a bit of insider information passed on to Notebook Italia, ASUS is gearing up to replace its aging EeeBox EB1501 with the EB1501P. Reportedly, the box will be based around Intel's dual-core Atom D525 processor and will feature NVIDIA's Ion GPU, a 250GB hard drive, 2GB of DDR3 memory, 802.11n WiFi, an HDMI output, six USB sockets and Bluetooth. That aligns quite nicely with the EB1501U (shown above) that we spotted back at CeBIT, which has yet to launch in any capacity since. A proper introduction at IFA, perhaps? We'll be watching, ASUS.

Is that USB 3.0 I see?
@Eman5112 Yes indeed.
@Eman5112
This looks like a nice PC for your TV
@Firewave
XMBC for sure.
@IMarius Ah, XBMC had its time, you have mediacenter with tones of addons on your windows why would you want that?
@arash
what do you mean had its time ? you act like no one is developing for it , when its still the best media centre program there is, cause it offers the kinda freedom that others media programs can not, it runs on windows and linux , plus you can put it on cheaper machines like this and it runs like a dream.
@Firewave Not for your wallet though :(
@IMarius
What about Mac, I'm running XBMC right now. And, what about Boxee and Plex?
Media Center had its time 20 years ago. When I tried the trial, it was the ugliest interface out of XBMC, boxee, Media Center and Plex
@Eman5112
According to the link below, a blu ray equipped version is coming out in September!!!
http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2010/08/asus_eee_box_eb1501p_to_arrive_in_the_us_soon.html
"It ought to arrive Stateside in the coming weeks, where for $500 thereabouts you ought to be able to get one with a built-in DVD burner, although folks who prefer to go the full HD way can always wait for September to roll around, where it will come equipped with a Blu-ray drive then."
@Firewave If you're not gaming, this is a nice PC for everything.
@IMarius
No cablecard breaks it for me...
Looks like a nice addition to my TV. Naice.
But how much $?
@Weber 09
Euro price is €449 or about $600 US
Can it bitstream audio?
So I've been thinking of getting something like this to use as a skype terminal in my son's room. I'm trying to have the creepy ability to watch his crib when I am traveling for work. Do I need a fancier one like fdthis or can I get by with an older gen for skype video calls? Does having an Ion help with streaming higher quality video?
@jaradFromSubway Well you could just pick up a network camera. That would be way easier.
@jaradFromSubway FORGET this, just get an ethernet enabled camera
@jaradFromSubway
If you have a linksys router, linksys has a good wireless-N camera. Its a pain to setup on competitors routers though.
Can I get a hellz yeah?
Can you remove the stand? It looks silly on it.
I always wanted one of these little things but have been waiting for the tech to make it worth it at a reasonable price... I will be watching.
Does anyone actually have peripherals or anything that uses USB3.0? We have the ports why isn't the manufacturers making ports usb 3.0 capable!
new chip but not Ion 2. any reason?
I'm thinking it has something to do with the case design. Since the ION 2 platform uses a discrete graphics card, I don't think the case would be big enough for the card to connect to the motherboard via PCIe.
@Stuey1214
ION2 is the old naming convention IIRC, as its now called NG-ION, or next generation ION, which is what this has.
@Ducman69 thanks for the info.
What's USB SuperSpeed?
@Anthony La
USB 3.0
I know you get External USB TV Tuners, but I fail to understand why these EeeBox or even the Dell Zino HD do not come with built in TV Tuners, I believe these would make for great Media Center/HTPCs if they had a TV Tuner and HDMI out port
@Zo
Yeah seriously, it would be nice if someone made something in this form factor with a CableCard slot.
This look promising. Nice spec to be honest.
I'd replace Moms ageing eMachine with anything At this point

This one with passive cooling is also promising

I feel like I've been waiting and waiting for a decent HTPC. The wait could finally be over.
I hate new technology it makes computing to easy :'( I liked the days when using a computer was difficult. MS DOS FTW!
and when they were massive towers that could barely run anything, man that was awesome.
@Jordo1234
I remember I had a giant tower I put together that would choke playing MP3s and it would sound like a screw tape.
Hit that puppy with a dremmel and saw to put some extra fans in and threw in a Celeron 300 which I was running at twice the speed. Best overclocker evar! :D
But now its pwned by silent tiny nettops.... =/
@Ducman69
Yeah, Still, I love my old tower with the turbo button, the Pentium 2 Processor, 64mb of ram.. it ran doom quite well :P
Price?
Or just get the 1215n.....so many choices coming out.
Another EeeBox, another almost perfect HTPC without Blu-ray.
Still waiting on 1215N.
From a distance it looks like one of those Sandisk memory card readers
If I did not already have a HTPC, I would buy this in a heartbeat to look up to my TV. I know someone who bought an Apple TV device and prefers it to a device like this. I cannot understand the logic behind that. Esp. if they were the same price. Even so, he still would opt for Apple TV over a device like this. And if a TV has PIP, that would be even better.
When are they going to provide more HD content over IP damn it !
it needs 4gb ddr3 and i'm sold...
whats the use of this??
