HTC EVO 4G Froyo .6 update seems to fix early adopter issues
We know our readers: obsessive early adopters who'll stop at nothing to have the latest and greatest software on their handsets. Just like us. Unfortunately, sometimes we get burned in the process. But the community is nothing if not tenacious. Now we've got an apparent "fix" for anyone who updated their EVO 4G to the Android 2.2 Froyo build discovered on HTC's servers, only to find out that they were running a non-final build. User Pojoman over at XDADevelopers just upped the .3 to final .6 RUU from Sprint that should correct any woes. Based on the enthusiastic feedback we're reading we'd say that this is good news. Nevertheless, the usual disclaimers apply before hitting the source link below, especially with HTC already acknowledging that a fix is on the way via official channels. Yeah, we know, blah blah blah.

@ACEACEACE
LLS, like seriously... go get an HD2 for all of that.
@Dellibedaboss
HD2 doesn't have the front facing camera or the kickstand :P
@Marbo100
I seriously hope you are joking...
Got my phone upgraded from .3 to .6 and my back up pro was awesome. Still had a little to do after it completely wiped my phone but not too much. The only reason I upgraded is because the bluetooth hardly worked at all after the update to .3. Havent tried it out yet but I'm hoping ,6 fixed it because I hate driving and talking with a phone to my ear.
if you paid any attention to the tip i sent you yesterday. its not a fix. its just a complete ruu wipe. you just had to go to a retail corp sprint repair store and they would wipe your phone and install it.
the htc fix wont wipe your phone
it was super fun hitting the refresh button on that forum a billion times! I was laying in bed with my wife and she kept saying "now WHY are you so excited about this?"
... I honestly couldn't answer. but it was still fun!
God, so many updates...just saying hahah iPhone 4 has had like 1? So if it gets more within this month, then evo, cause it's "soooooo goood on sprint", will be king. Or atleast "king" cause in 2007, what started an actually good touch screen? Oh yup, iPhone. Then g1 tried. Then storm tried and failed terribly. Now rebirths of faster g1s are attacking. Sure, 1ghz processor is cool, but where is the 1 gig ram? So far, the best android I have used that isn't oversized or too small, has been the nexus one and droid incredible. Well incredible looks cool, but I like froyo on nexus one :) and yes, I'm 3GS going to iPhone 4, so the fanboy bs comments and hate replies starttttttttt....now!
Any1 notice after updating to .3 that it is almost impossible to to post story links from engadget on Facebook from their EVO?
Installing this was even easier than the unofficial update!
People on this site are a mess...suck my grindle.
Just installed! it was easy and it works great! It was easier than the unofficial! Thanks xda
I just did the update. Worked out perfect. Really feels better than .3. Hard to explain how. I was one of the lucky ones where .3 worked perfectly but it would slow don here and there with the phone app and camera but now its as smooth as butter. Thanks Engadget and Pojoman for this awesome update that is taking HTC years to do. Either way. props.
Android just keeps getting better....I'm glad it finally does all updates at once which was always one of the things I hated most about how it operated. I cant wait for the official EVO car mount to arrive, it will be nice to have it go into navigation mode on it's own when put into the mount. It will prompt you on whether you want Sprint's navigation or the Androids built in program, which I actually like better then the Sprint one in some ways.
If Android keeps making good decisions like these with their OS/User interface it will continue to grow in popularity and slowly take over the #1 slot that other devices have at this time. Just my 2 cents on the subject and to each their own on what they prefer to use. Everyone is going to like/hate something about every device they own or don't own because of some preconceived notion or be one of the I gotta have the new iPhone/EVO/Blackberry etc... users that are stuck on just one device and not willing to give anything else a try. To me those people are the ones losing out. I have had several different devices over the years and so far I just like Android the best (with the exception of missing my Word and Excel that is built into WinMobile).
So I don't get it. this update will wipe out everything? how would I back everything up? is there a way that doesn't wipe everything? what is the benefit of upgrading anyway? .3 is running fine anyway.
Wait, so will they be pushing this update OTA as well? Or do I have to do the same thing I did with the previous update/take it to Sprint, for it to be "official"?
