Samsung's Cetus SGH-i917 sashays into FCC database, winks seductively at AT&T
AT&T came right out and confessed that it would be "the premiere carrier" for Windows Phone 7, and while it's obviously far too early to say if that'll be the case, this ain't a bad way to start proving one's point. Samsung's Cetus (SGH-i917) was just recently confirmed to be one of the first commercial Windows Phone 7 devices last week, and now the always-disclosing FCC database has shed even more light on the phone's intentions. Based on the mention of 850 / 1,900MHz frequency support -- and that whole "SGH-i917 (ATT)" marking on the label -- it's pretty safe to assume that this 4-inch, AMOLED-packin' superphone will soon be fighting with the iPhone 4 for shelf space. There's obviously no indication of when Ma Bell plans on releasing this one to the wilds, but it's typically not too far out after hitting this milestone. Giddy yet?

I'd stick with the baby blue color if I was Samsung
@mopey
An "F" letter away from...
@a dumb cat
BABY BLUE FETUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just about to say...
Cetus reminds me of Fetus
I'd really like to dual boot Android and WP7 on the same sammy... hardware wise is very similar to the Captivate right?
@beckhams777 I'm sure its almost exactly the same, just in a slightly tweaked shape & different buttons
@beckhams777 i love my captivate.... samsung is starting to make some damn good hardware! Dual booting would be epic and totally possible (i mean it has like 3 different storages in it) if someone could rig up a bootloader
@tu eres estupido
By epic, do you mean the Samsung Epic 4G?
If only they would market the Captivate as well as they will this & the iPhone 4.
(I'm not a fanboy for any platform btw, I just think they should market all of them equally the way they brag about being the only carrier with all major smartphone OSes)
That name looks a little too much like fetus for me to be comfortable with it.
@afrovballpride
Blame Greek Mythology.
The creature looks pretty messed up:

Looks like a Cetus to me.
@afrovballpride They need to abort this phone
@Meekermoloko
It certainly does.
Maybe Samsung should create a smaller sibling for this phone and hire the person who drew this to design a logo for it: http://www.nekrotherium.com/art/10salmon.html. It would have such a catchy name -- Cetus Fetus.
does this have the SUPER AMOLED screen?
@elijahblake Since Samsung is manufacturing it & they want to be the top smartphone maker yada yada yada, probably.
This will most likely be their flagship WP7 device, so don't expect them to skimp on features.
Sounds like Cletus to me...LOL
@Tooonces
Or Fetus.
I need to see pics of this thing. I really hope this is a good phone. The Dell lighting still seems like my favorite so far
So it's pretty much a captivate with WP7?
@CryptArc yes
... these phones all have AMOLED, not Super AMOLED... sunlight readability = #*§$%& - right?? I hope S-LCD in HTC phones is as good as Super AMOLED.
As far as I know, manufacturers won't be able to skin WP7- so no Touchwiz, right?
@TheBennettBrigade
They can't skin it but they can add pins to the home screen and make other changes here and there.
Cletus, the phone for slack jawed yokels
why the fuck is ATT getting ALL the phones?
the last 3 phones announced/leaked are all going to ATT
even this window7 phone.
they have the iphone. 99% of the poeple on ATT will get a iphone.
these companies are stupid if they think anyone on ATT will get something other than a iphone4
@audi2009
I'm on AT&T and I don't own/want an iPhone.
Companies chose AT&T for the same reason that Apple did. It uses GSM like most of the world. The alternative would be T-Mobile. Companies like Samsung would like to make phones that would sell to the most people around the world first before putting out a CDMA phone.
@audi2009 I have ATT and I have a pre plus , captivate and iPhone why wouldn't everyone appreciate a diverse portfolio!
@audi2009
I'm on At&T and I don't want an iPhone.
I like my Captivate far more than I did my iPhone.
@audi2009 BS verizon has a way better phone selection.
@audi2009
I love my Captivate. I would hate to have an iPhone. Not everyone on AT&T is an iPhone buff.
@Drybones5
Hear hear. I love my Captivate, too, in spite of *grumble* AT&T *grumble*.
@sirwallyc after i figured out how to install non-market apps i'm stoked with my captivate!!!!
@iName I have to go against you on that. Verizon really doesn't. They basically carry every model of the same phone. They appear to have more of a selection because these phones are scattered everywhere. It's the same phone just in a different spot in the store.
@audi2009
Ditto with the rest except I'm passing on the Captivate mainly because of the GPS issue. It takes away one of Androids best features. WP7 would actually be my preferred platform given that it doesn't totally suck. Seems like a great all-in-one device with a lot of room to grow. Didn't really want to wait another 3-4 months to get a phone though.
the model number alone gave it away that it was headed for at&t
i am on an ATTfree diet
F***! WHY THE HELL IS IT GOING TO AT&T? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
@icosta4658
Does it matter who is carrying it? It's a Windows Mobile phone. Who cares? I have no hopes whatsoever that Microsoft will be able to make any significant inroads with this new incarnation of a _terrible_ mobile OS. Sure, it looks much better than the previous iterations, but then so does a turd.
@sirwallyc Well technically it is a Windows Phone..... yea they got rid of the Mobile (in case ur head was up your ass when they decided that). In any case, of course it matters who carries it, cause if AT&T carries all the good phones then the iPhone won't be the shinning star in AT&T's line up anymore. I would just like to see good windows PHONES on every carrier.
We need pictures. Honestly, I'm eager to see this Win7. I heard Windows phones sucked because it's mainly target at business people. I was even excited about the Captivate until I saw the OS on it.
I'm on AT&T too and yet still AT&T have yet to deliver any other good ANDROID device besides the Captivate. Don't want the iphone or a Windows phone. kinda sucks if your on AT&T have less choices on phones.
